What Alexander said was not a question.

Alexander claimed.

Delia was his.

The response from Hassan was unexpected.

Not confirmation, not rejection.

Something in between.

Something that, roughly translated, meant, “Not entirely intentional.” “Not entirely intentional…” Alexander repeated in a very flat tone.

“But not entirely unintentional either.” The dark blue gemstone glowed again.

Slightly longer than before.

Alexander interpreted it as the closest thing to a YES.

He sighed.

Long.

In the way of someone weighing how much information to share and with whom.

“The girl is under my protection,” Alexander finally said.

His words were chosen very carefully, not mine, not my contract, but my protection.

A linguistically small difference, but hugely significant in implication.

“And there’s a reason why the ruby on my chest resonates in an unusual way when you touched her consciousness earlier,” Alexander added.

Silence.

Then a different resonance, sharper, more focused, feeling more like a direct question than ambient communication.

“What reason?” Alexander stared at the dark blue gemstone.

His mind moved quickly, weighing, calculating, considering how much honesty was safe to reveal and how much was wiser to keep for now.

“There’s a text in Dudu Yai’s scrolls,” Alexander said, “that Delia hasn’t finished translating.

The part she marked with red question marks and planned to return to tomorrow.” A pause.

“I’ve already read it.” The gemstone did not glow.

But the presence behind it felt increasingly focused, increasingly attentive.

“Dudu Yai recorded something in his fourth scroll,” Alexander continued, his voice dropping a level.

“About blood called connecting blood.

Blood so rare that in Dudu Yai’s history of hunting, he only found two cases.

Blood that naturally forms a bridge between the human world and the supernatural world, not through ritual or magic, but simply because it was that way from birth.” A longer silence.

“Blood like that,” Alexander said, “doesn’t only awaken a vampire from his long sleep when it touches his ruby.” His eyes did not move from the dark blue gemstone.

“But also, according to Dudu Yai’s records, can resonate with certain Jinn containment seals.

Disrupting their frequency.

Making a seal that should be impermeable become…

permeable.” One second.

Two seconds.

Three…

And then Alexander received something that was not a sentence and was not an image, but closer to understanding.

Hassan understood what Alexander had just conveyed.

And its implications.

“The girl awakened my consciousness, not through words, but through an impression that formed directly.

Not her touch.

Not her presence.

But her blood.

Which has already made a contract with you,” Hassan’s answer echoed in Alexander’s head.

“Yes,” Alexander confirmed briefly.

“So your blood contract is what made my seal react?” came the question from Hassan’s Jar.

“Indirectly.

Yes.” A different silence descended between them.

Not the initial silence filled with wariness.

This was more complex, two ancient creatures both newly realizing that the situation they thought they understood actually had layers neither of them had planned for.

Alexander spoke first.

“I need to know one thing.” The resonance waited.

“The dream you sent earlier.” Alexander’s tone shifted again, colder, more measured, but there was something beneath it that, if Hassan were sensitive enough to detect, would feel like do not answer this wrong.

“That wasn’t just standard charm magic.

There was another component.

I felt it through our contract’s resonance.” A silence that felt like consideration.

Then, Hassan’s answer.

“I didn’t intend to hurt her.” “I didn’t ask if you intended to hurt her,” Alexander cut in.

“I asked what that other component was.” The dark blue gemstone glowed longer, deeper than before, its color shifting slightly darker before returning to ocean blue.

And the answer Alexander received made his silver eyebrow rise for the first time since this conversation began.

“Not pain.

Not manipulation.

Not hunting.

I just wanted to know what it felt like.

To be touched by someone who chooses to touch.

Not because of magic.

Not because of enchantment.

Just…

choosing.

Her blood resonated with my seal.

For a moment, I felt something through that resonance.

And I wanted to know if behind that resonance there was a real person.

Turns out there is!” Hassan’s first long sentence.

Alexander sat in silence for quite a while after that.

The ruby on his chest pulsed softly, a rhythm that wasn’t his, a rhythm he received from the blood contract connecting him to a girl who was now walking home with slightly disheveled hair and the expression of someone who had just woken from a dream she could not fully remember, but could not fully forget.

“Hassan.” Alexander’s voice was softer than before, not because it had softened, but because there were conversations whose weight did not require volume to be conveyed.

“I won’t forbid you from being here.

That jar is yours, this museum is a legitimate place, and Delia is its curator, she’ll continue working near you.” The resonance waited.

Listening.

“But there’s one thing you need to understand.” Alexander stood.

His height filled the room in a way different from how humans filled rooms.

“Delia isn’t a noble daughter seeking adventure.

She’s not a woman who came to you because she was enchanted by stories of a mysterious desert Jinn.

She came because it’s her job.

And that difference matters.” “I know,” came Hassan’s resonant answer.

“And charm magic, intentional or not, is something I won’t allow to be used on her again without her knowledge.” The tone was not a threat.

But it was not not a threat either.

“If you want to know whether there’s a real person behind her blood’s resonance, there are ways that don’t involve dreams she didn’t choose to enter.” A long silence.

Then slowly, in a way that felt more like a concession than defeat, a question came.

“In what way?” Alexander stared at the dark blue gemstone for one last second before turning toward the dark corner where he had entered earlier.

“Let your seal open on its own terms,” he said without looking back.

“If her blood truly resonates with your seal, it will happen in time.

Without you forcing it, without you sending unsolicited dreams.” His footsteps made no sound as he approached the wall.

“And if it happens on its own terms, you’ll get an answer far more honest than anything you could gain through any magic.” Alexander vanished.

The research room fell silent again.

Hassan’s Jar stood alone under the spotlight.

Its dark blue gemstone no longer glowed.

But inside the silence left by that conversation, something moved very slowly like a first breath after holding it for a very long time, like something that had long stopped waiting and just found a reason to start again.

Outside the museum, the sky had gone completely dark.

And somewhere on the sidewalk between the museum and her apartment, Delia walked with her hands in her pockets and her mind returning to one thing she could not explain, the warmth in the palm of someone she had never met, in a desert that had never appeared on any map she had ever opened!
