“And you?” Athissa raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms under her chest.
“I am the heir to the throne,” Davis replied with such pride and raised his chest.
“Don’t you like violence too, Your Highness?” Athissa stated sarcastically, smirking.
David’s eyes flickered from blue to black as his wolf tried to surface.
“I am royalty, and not someone weak.
Violence is natural to those with power and money,” David explained arrogantly.
“Ah, I see.
Good luck with that,” Athissa nodded, which looked like agreement to David’s sentence since she didn’t have the strength to talk to him longer than needed.
David’s expression became serious, and he stepped closer to Athissa.
“I know both our fathers forced you into this.
They can’t send the pack’s traditional healer since she’s Althea’s teacher, but for the sake of our past.
I can talk to them and let someone from other packs be sent to Ravenfort.
You don’t need to go in that wrenched place all alone,” David stated firmly, yet there was still softness in his voice.
Athissa smiled.
If only she were blindsided with the truth, she would think David was in love with her, and she would disobey the orders given by the Alpha for the sake of staying by David’s side.
However, she wasn’t as naive as before.
“I appreciate your concern, but your idea would only conflict with the plans that are already settled.
I’ll be fine, Your Highness.
I’m sure I’ll survive.
After all, I survive this pack… and you,” Athissa’s voice slowed on the last words.
David frowned, but he didn’t say a word.
He stepped to the side and let Athissa walk through, but before they parted ways, he spoke one last time.
“If you need help of any kind.
Send me a letter, and I’ll be there,” David stated.
He was visibly concerned, and his eyes looked at Athissa’s back with longing.
Athissa didn’t reply and just nodded.
For her, those kinds of statements from David were like air that passed through from one ear to another and vanished away.
On that same day, Athissa went back to her clinic to get some items she needed to start her life in Ravenfort pack.
When she arrived, she noticed the light was still on even when the clinic was closed.
Athissa used her key to unlock the door and slowly walked inside.
Then suddenly, Mary, who was still in her office, walked out with wide eyes, showing fear and confusion.
“DOCTOR!” Mary exclaimed, her hand clutching her chest nervously.
“I thought you were a robber.
I can’t even smell you.”
“Of course you can’t smell a wolf-less wolf,” Athissa smiled genuinely while shaking her head in amusement.
“Also, what are you doing here at this hour?
You should be at home.”
Mary calmed down and sighed.
“Well, I’m cleaning….
Since you don’t,” she rolled her eyes and pouted.
“Hey!
I clean my desk!” Athissa said defensively, but she knew the truth.
She barely touched other things in the clinic and let Mary work on it.
“Yeah, but the clinic doesn’t magically clean itself every day,” Mary shook her head in disbelief that Athissa didn’t even realize how clean their place was.
“Right, I’ll increase your pay.
But I need to tell you something first,” Athissa said seriously, pulling Mary to sit on one of the chairs to talk.
She needed to inform Mary what the Alpha wanted her to do.
“You look so serious.
I’m not used to it,” Mary whispered, looking more scared since she was used to seeing Athissa in her unserious manner.
Athissa chuckled.
“Have you heard of the Ravenfort pack?” She asked, curious if Mary had any idea at all.
“Hmm, yeah.
A pack that has been formed not so long ago.
Maybe just a couple of years?
But I believe they’re a strong pack,” Mary stated, scratching her chin.
“I just heard about them from the nosy neighbors.
That pack mostly consists of men and a few women.”
“Really?” Athissa’s brow raised in surprise.
She had only heard that information just now.
“Umm, yeah?
But you’re a beta’s daughter.
You should be well informed of other packs too, right?” Mary shook her head after knowing Athissa’s cluelessness.
“You know that kind of topic doesn’t interest me.
My father never forced me to learn about pack stuff after all since I’m just a girl,” Athissa shrugged and showed she didn’t care, but deep inside, there was a nagging feeling of being left out of important information.
“Because girls are just going to get married bla bla bla.
Produce kids bla bla,” Mary said while rolling her eyes.
She had also experienced that kind of treatment from strangers, as if her only role in life was to produce pups.
“I know, right!
Haha!” Athissa laughed, slapping Mary’s shoulder, before she calmed down.
“Anyways, I’ll be transferring there for good.”
…Silence.
Mary’s smile died down as she stared at Athissa for a few seconds as if she was hearing nonsense.
“What are you talking about?” Mary whispered.
“Ravenfort pack needed medical aid on the front line, and I’ll be sent there.
I don’t know when I’ll return, but I’m sure they prefer me gone anyway—” Before Athissa could finish her sentence, Mary broke down before her.
“WAH!
What!?
YOU’RE LEAVING ME!?” Mary cried, tears dripping down her eyes continuously.
“It’s an order from the Alpha King, as well as my father.
I can’t do anything about it,” Athissa shrugged with a heavy heart.
“But it’s dangerous there.
That pack is in constant battle with rogues!” Mary exclaimed, gripping Athissa’s skirt tightly.
“You’ll be alone in a dangerous place!”
“I know, but it’s still the same even when I’m here,” Athissa replied with a small, sad smile.
For Athissa, there was no difference since her own family treated her as if she were just a mere stranger.
She had no mate to begin with, aside from being wolf-less.
That alone made her the bottom of the hierarchy.
“I understand.” Mary wiped the tears from her cheeks.
She sniffed and calmed herself down.
“So you’re here to pack your things.”
Just a peaceful chapter.
