The meeting had been convened primarily to target Jiang Chiyu. Now that she had proactively taken on such a difficult task, the others were naturally happy to let it be. When Jiang Chiyu later asked if there were any more questions, the entire group shook their heads.
No one was willing to waste any more time trying to trip her up. After all, it was still an unknown whether Jiang Chiyu could even complete the task.
As for her actually succeeding… that was considered an impossibility.
When Jiang Chiyu emerged from the conference room, her expression hadn’t changed at all. She looked completely relaxed, as if the task she had just accepted in front of so many board members was something extremely simple for her.
But Chen Mo knew exactly how “simple” it really was. If the Young Master weren’t helping from the shadows, Jiang Chiyu’s attempt to complete it independently would be nothing more than a pipe dream.
Yet, Jiang Chiyu seemed not to care at all. As soon as she returned to Pei Jinnian’s office, she lay right down. She sprawled out in a “star” shape on the spacious sofa; Chen Mo took one look and immediately averted his gaze.
“Miss Jiang, what do you plan to do next?”
Jiang Chiyu was lying comfortably, her eyes closed as she enjoyed the plushness of the sofa. “Next… I’m going to order takeout.”
As she spoke, she whipped out her phone with incredible speed.
The expression on Chen Mo’s face was now a perfect match for the “old man on the subway looking at his phone” meme.
What had he just heard? What did Jiang Chiyu say? She wanted to order takeout? Does she have no sense of crisis at all?
Pei Su’s progress was already halfway through. If she took one more step too late, she would be left eating nothing but air. But he simply couldn’t find a single trace of irritation on Jiang Chiyu’s face. None at all. She looked incredibly calm—more than natural, actually.
Yes, she looked a bit too much at home.
“And what about the matter with Pei Su?” Chen Mo struggled for a long time to find the words, finally managing to squeeze that out. His vision felt like it was darkening with frustration.
Jiang Chiyu sat up slowly from the sofa. “The thing with Pei Su… let’s talk about it after I eat.”
“…Fine.”
While Jiang Chiyu waited for her takeout, Chen Mo used the excuse of going to the bathroom to vent his frustrations to Pei Jinnian.
“Young Master, my dear Eldest Young Master, just look at the wife you married! She took on the job of fighting Pei Su for the land and immediately turned around to order takeout! I really can’t see even a hint of a sense of urgency in her!”
Pei Jinnian had just stepped off a flight abroad and was currently in a car. He listened silently to Chen Mo’s ranting about Jiang Chiyu, his expression remaining unchanged. “Let her eat. I’ve already sent people to handle Pei Su’s side.”
If Chen Mo hadn’t known what kind of temperament Pei Jinnian had, he would have thought Pei Jinnian was currently indulging his wife without limits.
“Then what should I do with Miss Jiang? Am I just responsible for following her around every day?” Chen Mo gripped his phone tightly, his expression looking like he had lost all hope in life.
Pei Jinnian smiled upon hearing his words. “Until I return, those are your tasks. Keep an eye on her for me, but there’s no need to stay by her side every second. Leave her some time to run into Pei Su and see when her true colors finally show.”
After saying this, he hung up the phone and closed his eyes. He hadn’t slept for over twenty hours. With Chen Mo following Jiang Chiyu, he felt at ease; it was time to close his eyes and rest for a while.
By the time Chen Mo finished his call and returned, Jiang Chiyu’s takeout had arrived. It was snail rice noodles—a dish with an incredibly strong pungent scent.
But Jiang Chiyu herself was eating with great gusto.
After holding his breath several times, Chen Mo couldn’t take it anymore and made another excuse to step out. He estimated the time and only pushed the door back in once he guessed Jiang Chiyu had finished eating.
As a result, he nearly collided head-on with her the moment he opened the door. He jumped back two steps. “Miss Jiang! You… are you finished?”
“I’m finished. Let’s head over to the owner of that plot of land now.”
Jiang Chiyu knew her breath would smell after eating snail noodles, so she had rinsed her mouth several times. Aside from a faint scent on her clothes, there was no smell left in her mouth.
Chen Mo was a bit surprised by her words; he had originally thought Jiang Chiyu didn’t intend to go today. “Alright, I’ll take Miss Jiang to have a look.”
In truth, Chen Mo’s form of address wasn’t quite right. Just as he called Pei Jinnian “Young Master,” he should have technically called Jiang Chiyu “Young Madam.” But he called her “Miss Jiang”… in a sense, he hadn’t yet accepted the fact that Jiang Chiyu was Pei Jinnian’s wife.
But Jiang Chiyu didn’t mind at all. “Okay.”
Chen Mo drove very fast. Jiang Chiyu had only just closed her eyes for a brief nap when the car came to a stop. “Miss Jiang, we’ve arrived.”
Still in a half-dreaming state, Jiang Chiyu mumbled, “Huh? Really? Okay, I’m getting out now.”
She only began to slowly wake up after stepping out of the car. Squinting her eyes, she asked Chen Mo, “What did my husband say when he was alive? How much did he expect to pay to get this land?”
Jiang Chiyu’s way of referring to Pei Jinnian made Chen Mo feel a sudden wave of discomfort, but he couldn’t correct her. He could only bite the bullet and answer. “Not more than one hundred million.”
“The land price in this area of Jinghai City is five thousand per square meter. The price hike wouldn’t exceed two hundred. There are twenty thousand square meters in total, intended for a medium-sized residential community. The Young Master’s budget was one hundred million.”
Jiang Chiyu blinked. “How much did you say? Buying twenty thousand square meters? A budget of one hundred million?”
She was truly amused by how poor she felt. This was just the land; the money for building the houses and hiring workers later would be calculated separately. Wouldn’t building this whole community take several “small goals” (hundreds of millions)?
Her late husband was truly wealthy…
“And do you know how much Pei Su plans to spend to buy it?”
Jiang Chiyu asked casually, not really expecting an answer. To her surprise, Chen Mo actually responded.
“Pei Su doesn’t have enough liquid capital. The flowable funds in his accounts don’t exceed fifty million. However, Hengchuang’s liquid capital is several times more than his. That is our advantage.”
“In other words, if Pei Su buys this land, he’ll likely end up owing the owner money?” She didn’t dwell on where Chen Mo got this data, simply analyzing the facts. People said the circle of fame and fortune was a mess, and she really didn’t want to dig into just how messy it was.
“Yes, that is our advantage,” Chen Mo’s tone was full of pride.
His words, essentially, were: We are richer than him; we can pay in cash.
If Jiang Chiyu were the owner of the land, she would definitely choose Hengchuang given the same price. But what if it weren’t the same? What if Pei Su raised the price? Such things happened quite often.
“Is Hengchuang’s information reliable?” she asked suddenly.
“What?” Chen Mo looked confused.
“I’m asking—is Hengchuang certain that the government intends to focus its support on this area in the future?”
