Li Tao was completely stunned after hearing the exact same words from Chen Mo that he had heard from Pei Su the day before. His small eyes were forced wide open, and his face was a mask of sheer shock.

He really passed away?

President Pei really passed away?

Then what would happen to their land? Would they be forced to sell it to that foul-faced man from yesterday?

In this moment, he had completely forgotten Jiang Chiyu’s existence. It was as if she were a puff of air, standing there without the slightest presence.

Likewise, the words she had spoken left no impression on anyone’s mind.

So, when she saw Li Tao’s expression of looking like he was about to crumble, she didn’t even blink. Crossing her arms, she simply stood there watching the show.

Deaf, they’re all deaf. Being deaf is good.

Blind, they’re all blind. Being blind is even better.

Treating her like she doesn’t exist, huh?

Can’t she buy it just because Pei Jinnian is dead? Does Pei Jinnian really have to be present to buy the land in your hands?

Jiang Chiyu thought fiercely with her arms crossed. There happened to be a utility pole behind her; she hooked one leg up and leaned against it, quietly admiring Li Tao’s breakdown and Chen Mo’s “mourning” scene.

She thought it would take a long time for these people to catch on. Unexpectedly, she had only just taken out her phone to scroll through two videos when someone quick-witted noticed her. The person pointed a finger at her and shouted at the top of their lungs:

“Didn’t she say she wanted to acquire it? She said she represents Hengchuang Group. Wasn’t that President Pei who came the other day also from Hengchuang? Could it be that President Pei asked her to come?”

The one who finally reacted was a young woman clutching a few yellowed, blackened papers. Jiang Chiyu could guess with her toes what those papers were.

This girl’s shout finally refocused everyone’s attention on Jiang Chiyu and successfully brought Chen Mo—who had almost burst a lung laughing—back to his senses.

After a few awkward coughs, he trotted over to Jiang Chiyu’s side, bowing his head in a half-hearted apology. “I’m sorry, Miss Jiang. I lost my composure just now.”

He had indeed lost his composure; he was afraid he might actually die from laughing if he wasn’t careful.

Jiang Chiyu glanced at him but said nothing. Instead, she held out her empty palm.

She signaled for Chen Mo to hand over the items.

“What does Miss Jiang mean by this?”

Did she want him to slap himself? Or penalize himself with three drinks?

Jiang Chiyu frowned slightly. “Where is the contract you drafted? Show it to them.”

Why did she have to tell him to do such a basic thing? He had been by Pei Jinnian’s side for a long time; how could he have so little situational awareness?

Before Jiang Chiyu’s thoughts could wander further into questioning Chen Mo’s professionalism, a moderately thick contract appeared in her palm.

This was an individual contract. Looking at the amount of A4 paper used, if they printed a copy for everyone later, it would likely consume a significant amount of paper.

Jiang Chiyu flipped through a few pages and found the reason for the paper waste.

It was because the back of the sheets Hengchuang used to print this contract were completely clean. Not a single word was printed there—it was just left for viewing.

If it were her, she would have filled the space until it was packed with tiny text.

The terms in this contract were compiled by Pei Jinnian while he was alive. Jiang Chiyu gave it a casual flip and then directly called Chen Mo to stand beside her.

“Come, read the relevant information in the contract. Then, tally up how many people agree to these conditions. We’ll go back and photocopy the corresponding number of contracts.”

Although he didn’t know why this task had fallen on him, Chen Mo still read the contract with a stoic face.

After he finished reading, Jiang Chiyu said, “Those who don’t agree, take a step back. I don’t want to miscount the heads.”

When she said this, she had the air of an ancient general drilling soldiers; the gathered crowd seemed like the troops in her hand, all needing to follow her instructions.

Watching Jiang Chiyu turn a land acquisition into a military inspection, the expression on Chen Mo’s face completely froze. Even his hand holding the notebook wanted to go on strike and leave.

How to strike? Close the notebook and drive away.

But he didn’t dare. He was still on a call with the Young Master; if he left now, his job would be gone.

This acquisition, which felt like playing house, lasted for over two hours before it truly ended. When Jiang Chiyu left, Li Tao personally escorted her out with his men, as if she were some high-ranking leader on an inspection tour.

But this treatment suited Jiang Chiyu well. Even after she got into the car, the smile on her face did not disappear.

On the other hand, Chen Mo, who was driving, felt like the corners of his mouth were twitching and his face was about to fall apart.

The smiles he gave when he came with the Young Master last time weren’t even half of what he gave today.

It wasn’t that Jiang Chiyu lacked status, but rather that the other side was too enthusiastic. A large group of people smiling and talking to you—he wasn’t naturally cold, so in a situation like this, he had to force a smile even if he couldn’t laugh naturally.

Over time, his face ended up like this.

“Now this side is mostly settled. All that’s left is signing the contract. It just depends on when Lin Wu contacts us.”

Jiang Chiyu leaned against the car window, pretending to sleep, speaking weakly as if this trip had drained all her energy.

But only Chen Mo knew how much fun she had on this trip. The most exhausted part of her was likely her lips.

There was no helping it; she had simply spoken too much.

“I just received news that Pei Su’s funding is likely having issues. If he can’t produce enough capital, Lin Wu should contact us within the next two days.”

After hearing Jiang Chiyu’s words, Chen Mo thought for a moment before telling her the news he had just learned from Pei Jinnian.

“What? Is Pei Su about to go bankrupt?”

Jiang Chiyu’s eyes, which had been closed, snapped open instantly. She sat up much straighter. “Then I think we can lower the price for this land acquisition even more. After all, at a time like this, besides Hengchuang, no one else would step up to buy the land in their hands.”

This time, Jiang Chiyu’s words truly shocked Chen Mo for a moment. After pondering for a long time, he spoke: “It seems Miss Jiang has a natural talent for being a black-hearted capitalist.”

It was a comment that sounded like praise but wasn’t quite.

Jiang Chiyu took it as a compliment. “I feel like I have a talent for everything I do. There’s no helping it; maybe this is just the difference between a genius and an ordinary person.”

Listening to her, a strained smile appeared on Chen Mo’s face. He didn’t speak again, his dismissiveness obvious.

“If Pei Su’s funding is in trouble, then if I represent Hengchuang and go show off in front of him, would he kill me in a fit of rage?”

Jiang Chiyu propped her hand against the car window. From the reflection in the rearview mirror, Chen Mo could see that she was genuinely conflicted about the answer to this question.

He fell silent for a moment, then thought of a reply. “It’s said that Pei Su has taken more lives than the number of meals I’ve eaten.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Jiang Chiyu, who had been mischievously planning some trouble, immediately sat up straight. Her expression became one of solemn righteousness.

“Show off what? It’s better to keep a low profile in life.”
