Jiang Chiyu’s voice was very loud. If Chen Mo hadn’t conveniently closed the door when he walked in, he was afraid her voice would have been heard by others.

He coughed lightly and took two more steps toward Jiang Chiyu. “Then, I’ll trouble Miss Jiang to sign this.”

The contract he handed over was very thin, consisting of only one or two pages. Jiang Chiyu finished reading it with a single glance; every clause was in her favor, except for one—the one that stated she could not get a divorce.Full novel: My short-lived husband left me with a large estate; I’m the strongest widow in a wealthy family — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

To be honest, she felt that specifically listing this clause was redundant.

Her husband was already dead. Who cared if she divorced or not? The inheritance was all hers.

With this thought in mind, Jiang Chiyu scribbled her name at the very end of the contract. Closing her eyes, she handed the contract back to Chen Mo, along with the black pen she had just clicked shut.

Only after Chen Mo took the contract did she belatedly realize that her reaction seemed a bit too calm… After all, it was her husband who had died.

So, just as Chen Mo finished his task and was about to leave the room, he suddenly heard a miserable wail coming from behind him. The girl was howling with her eyes closed, and the tears seeping from the corners of her eyes had already ruined her makeup.

The words coming out of her mouth, however, were: “Husband… I will definitely live well on your behalf! Every year on this day, I will wash my face with tears and pray for you!”

After howling this sentence, she thought of something else and suddenly shouted at Chen Mo, who was only two steps away from the door, “Where is my husband’s body? I want to see him one last time.”

Chen Mo didn’t know what his young master’s expression was right now, but he was currently going crazy trying to suppress his laughter. His toes were practically about to dig a castle into the floor.

Forcing down his amusement, he turned his head to look at Jiang Chiyu, whose face was smeared with tears. “Um… the Young Master was smashed to pieces. It would be better if Miss Jiang didn’t look…”

But Jiang Chiyu refused to listen. “I want to see him! I want to see him one last time!”

She was incredibly stubborn.

To those who didn’t know the truth, it would seem she was deeply in love with Pei Jinnian.

Looking at Jiang Chiyu like this, Chen Mo couldn’t help but want to give her a thumbs up.

When masters clash, every move is lethal.

Fortunately, the Young Master was prepared; otherwise, he would have been defeated right here.

“If Miss Jiang insists on seeing him… then I will take Miss Jiang to see the Young Master off one last time,” he said, keeping his head lowered, terrified that Jiang Chiyu would see his upturned lips.

If he were caught, he would be the one getting scolded later.

“However, Miss Jiang certainly cannot go like this…” Chen Mo’s words trailed off as his gaze fixed on Jiang Chiyu’s wedding dress. She knew what he meant without him saying it.

“That’s fine, I can change.”

“Then I will wait outside.”

Half an hour later, Jiang Chiyu saw her husband for the last time.

Strictly speaking, this could no longer be called “seeing his face.”

Because her husband no longer had a face.

Yes, her husband’s face was gone.

All she saw was a mass of bloody flesh.

Even his features were indistinguishable. Two of his limbs were broken, and his head was only barely connected to his neck by a small piece of flesh, which was the only reason they hadn’t separated.

Everywhere she looked was a sea of blood red.

The sight made Jiang Chiyu’s stomach churn.

But she held back the urge to vomit. After thinking through every sad thing that had happened in her life, she managed to squeeze out a few drops of tears.

“Waaaaah… Husband, you died such a tragic death…”

“What am I supposed to do now that you’ve left me all alone…”

Jiang Chiyu acted with great devotion; the tears flowing from her eyes became much more sincere. Cheng Wanru, who had come along, saw this and refused to be outdone. Her tears fell instantly, and her originally exquisite makeup was ruined in a flash.

Seeing this scene, Chen Mo couldn’t help but feel emotional. The Madam truly lived up to her years of experience; she could handle this kind of scene perfectly.

The promise to “see him one last time” was truly just one last look. Jiang Chiyu had originally wanted to showcase more of her acting skills, but after she had only howled a few times, Chen Mo took the lead in ushering everyone out.

He claimed it was out of respect for the deceased and that they shouldn’t disturb the spirit’s peace.

When Jiang Chiyu was pushed out, the tear stains on her face weren’t even dry yet. Seeing Chen Mo’s indifferent face, she sniffled and looked around. Seeing no one nearby, she spoke up boldly.

“I have a question… my husband’s bank cards… and his house keys and stuff, when can you give them to me?”

Pei Jinnian, whose phone had been on speakerphone on his desk the whole time, paused mid-sip of his coffee when he heard this. After a moment, he chuckled and said, “Tell her they can be delivered to her hands tomorrow.”

Is she really that impatient?

“Remember to keep a close eye on her. See when my eldest uncle approaches her.”

Chen Mo obeyed Pei Jinnian’s words as if they were a divine decree. Having received the instruction, he said on the spot, “I can bring all of those over tomorrow.”

Upon hearing a definite answer, Jiang Chiyu immediately felt relieved and nodded repeatedly. “Great!”

Realizing she sounded a bit too happy, she quickly suppressed the corners of her mouth. “I am truly heartbroken…”

As she spoke, she turned and walked away.

Watching Jiang Chiyu walk off with light, quick steps, Chen Mo’s lips twitched.

I can tell. You are truly heartbroken—so heartbroken that you can’t even hide your smile.

Because the wedding had coincided with Pei Jinnian’s “death,” the decorations at the Pei family’s wedding venue were replaced overnight with white chrysanthemums, representing a funeral. Jiang Chiyu also bought herself several sets of black suits overnight.

Naturally, she used Pei Jinnian’s card.

The transaction notifications were sent to Pei Jinnian’s phone.

Looking at the multiple expenditure messages that popped up overnight, Pei Jinnian deleted them without even blinking.

Although Chen Mo said he would deliver the items the next day, his efficiency was incredibly high. Jiang Chiyu received them that very night, and on the same day she got them, she went on a revenge-spending spree.

She considered it her “hardship pay” for today’s acting.

When she received the transfer documents for the properties under Pei Jinnian’s name and the newly issued property deeds, the first thought that popped into Jiang Chiyu’s mind was to move out.

She didn’t want to stay in the same house as this mother-in-law, who looked difficult to get along with.

What if the woman got upset one day and decided to pick a fight with her?

She was a billionaire now; she didn’t have to put up with that kind of grievance.

“What? I can’t move? Why?”

Upon hearing Chen Mo’s answer, Jiang Chiyu felt half-deflated, but she remained persistent. “But why? Why can’t I move?”

If you move, how will it be convenient for Pei Su to find you?

“The Young Master’s ‘Seventh Day’ hasn’t even passed yet. Are you in such a hurry to move away?”

Accompanying this low-tolerance question was Chen Mo’s “death stare.”

Under this double pressure, Jiang Chiyu backed down. “Then… then I’ll move after my husband’s ‘Seventh Day’ has passed.”

It was just seven days; she could afford to wait!
