Li Yingxue felt that it was noisy.
But the source of that disturbance was not the terrifying roars and collisions of zombies outside the car. Instead, it came from deep within his mind—the strange, mysterious voice had returned, buzzing incessantly and disturbing his thoughts.
He could not make out what it was saying clearly, only vaguely catching a repeated syllable… something like “Xue?”
At that moment, the car door was suddenly yanked open. A gust of wind carrying the stench of blood and dust rushed in, followed by the sound of Lu Yun quickly getting into the car and closing the door.
That abrupt movement pulled Li Yingxue out of the strange internal noise. His consciousness finally cleared completely.
He opened his eyes.
Long white hair spread across the black leather seat, forming a stark contrast. Fine strands near his temples were damp with cold sweat, sticking to his pale, almost translucent skin. In the dim, jolting interior of the car, his whiteness looked striking—like snow fallen into a filthy world by mistake.
He quickly sensed something was wrong.
The vehicle was shaking violently, accompanied by grating impact sounds and the roar of the engine.
Lu Yun suddenly said in a low voice, “Hold on.”
Before the words even finished, the car shot forward violently. The sudden acceleration made Li Yingxue sway uncontrollably. He hurriedly grabbed the front seat, panic creeping into his voice.
“What’s happening? What are those sounds outside?”
“Zombies,” Lu Yun replied shortly, fully focused on driving.
Li Yingxue instinctively turned his head left and right, but all he could see was endless darkness. That only made the fear from sound even more intense.
In the driver’s seat, a trace of aggression flashed through Lu Yun’s dark eyes. Expressionless, he watched the zombies swarming from all directions, his posture almost relaxed.
Taking advantage of the fact that Li Yingxue could not see, he half-lowered his left eye—and his right eye silently transformed into an inhuman crimson.
In the next moment, the zombies about to leap onto the car had their heads abruptly severed by an invisible blade. Black, foul blood splattered across the windshield.
Lu Yun floored the accelerator. The off-road vehicle crushed over severed limbs and rotten flesh like an arrow released from a bow, speeding forward.
Li Yingxue felt around the cold leather seat beneath him, trying to steady himself through the violent shaking.
“Darling… did you find a car? Are we in one now?” he asked weakly.
Lu Yun gave a vague “mm” through his nose.
No further explanation came. Li Yingxue sensed the tension in the air and pressed his lips together, no longer daring to disturb the apparently focused driver.
Lu Yun, however, had not forgotten his “C-rank water-type supernatural ability user” weak persona in front of Li Yingxue.
So he deliberately let a few slower zombies catch up, slamming into the vehicle.
Bang! Thud!
Several of those impacts landed directly on the door beside Li Yingxue. Startled, he flinched violently and instinctively turned away, curling toward the opposite side of the car to escape the terrifying noise.
The vehicle tilted slightly under the impact, but Lu Yun’s driving skill was excellent—he quickly stabilized it.
He drove forward, crushing through the remains of zombies he had already silently killed, racing toward the outskirts of the city.
Through the rearview mirror, he saw the dense horde still chasing futilely behind them. Only then did the crimson in his right eye slowly fade, returning to normal black.
The off-road vehicle jolted violently, rolling over uneven ground filled with radial cracks at the edge of the city, kicking up a storm of dust. Finally, it broke free from the abandoned, hopeless dead city.
Only after they had driven a considerable distance and confirmed temporary safety did Lu Yun slowly pull over to the roadside.
Inside the car, only the low rumble of the engine and their faint breathing remained.
Li Yingxue, who had been tense the entire time and unconsciously digging his fingers into his palm, finally relaxed slightly. His pale face still carried lingering fear, but… it seemed they were safe for now.
He loosened his stiff shoulders, then his fingers brushed against something cold and cylindrical.
He froze slightly.
At almost the same moment, Lu Yun’s voice sounded right beside him.
“Drink some water.”
He did not know when he had moved from the driver’s seat to the back, standing by the open car door.
Only then did Li Yingxue realize what he was holding. He felt for it and took the thermos. Lifting his face toward Lu Yun’s direction, he offered a weak but sincere smile.
“Thank you, Darling.”
He took a few small sips. The dryness and stinging in his throat and lips eased slightly.
Just as he lowered the cup, something else touched the back of his hand—a piece of cold wrapped candy.
“Mm?” he tilted his head slightly, puzzled.
Lu Yun stared at his lips—moist now from the water, pale in color yet looking unusually soft and inviting. His throat moved subtly as he said briefly, “Candy.”
But Li Yingxue did not reach out. Instead, he naturally tilted his head up and opened his mouth.
“Ah—”
That simple action drew Lu Yun’s gaze instantly.
His eyes fell on the faint glimpse of a small, wet red tongue between slightly parted lips.
A subtle, electric sensation suddenly shot up from the base of his spine, stirring an inexplicable agitation.
After a beat, he silently unwrapped the candy, holding it between two fingers and bringing it to Li Yingxue’s lips.
The scent was sweet orange.
Li Yingxue leaned forward slightly and took it into his mouth. His soft, damp lips inevitably brushed against Lu Yun’s fingers.
At the same time, his long white hair slipped down from his shoulders. The small red teardrop mole beneath his left eye flickered in and out of view as his eyelashes moved—like a single crimson plum blossom in a field of snow, strikingly vivid against his pale skin.
Lu Yun suddenly pulled his hand back sharply, as if burned. He retreated quickly to the driver’s seat and slammed the back door shut.
Sitting there, he unconsciously rubbed his fingertips together, as if trying to erase the lingering soft, wet sensation.
He closed his eyes, but the image of that small red mole remained vividly imprinted behind his eyelids.
In the livestream chat, a few inappropriate comments drifted by.
【Lu Yun, your eyes are practically glued to my wife’s face! Don’t think I didn’t see it!】
【Waaah white-haired beauty wife… that mole under his eye is deadly. So perfect for being licked gently. He’d definitely tremble from sensitivity but still can’t push me away. After getting all wet and dazed, he’d only be able to lean weakly in my arms and whisper “Darling”…】
Lu Yun happened to see that comment.
His expression darkened instantly, pressure dropping around him like a storm. He cut off the livestream comments entirely—and even added that user to his permanent blacklist.
Yet after doing all that, his eyes still drifted unconsciously toward the rearview mirror.
Inside it, Li Yingxue sat quietly, holding the candy, a small bulge in his cheek as he listened to the wind outside.
That tiny red mole remained unmistakably bright against his pale face.
Lu Yun clicked his tongue irritably and slammed the accelerator again. The off-road vehicle surged forward into the desolate road, as if trying to throw that strange restlessness far behind him.
