Gu Chen didn’t even need to speak about how valuable the forcefield was, and it was obvious that its strength would increase with each level up.
Adding the recall function, he would be able to retreat to base quickly, and no one below the strength of the forcefield would be able to harm him.
Indeed, there was no place like home!
After taking a moment to appreciate the forcefield, Gu Chen moved to the store function of the system. Previously, it was locked, and he wasn’t able to access it. Turned out he just needed to set the org base to unlock it.
Upon opening the store function, a screen with a category list appeared in front of him.
....
(Weapons...
Cultivation technique...
Magical treasures...
Skills...
Items...
Edibles...
Conversion...
MP: 600)
....
Gu Chen raised an eyebrow; the categories of items showed that he could get very useful items from the system store, but two things got his attention.
Firstly, why were weapons and magical treasures separate categories? Secondly, edibles?
Curious, Gu Chen checked out the weapon category first. However, his face turned blank after the new section opened and he could finally see why the weapons and magical treasures categories were separate.
.....
Pistol(type/grade/price)
Shotgun(type/grade/price)
Rifle(type/grade/price)
Explosive(type/grade/price)
Melee(type/grade/price)
....
Gu Chen "..."
He was completely short of words as he stared at the options available. After some time, he let out a sigh and continued his investigation. Maybe he would stop regretting the shot he wasted on Su Zhui if the prices were affordable.
A second later, Gu Chen could be seen staring at the system screen with a grim look. The regret he felt about wasting a shot on Su Zhui just increased severalfold after seeing the system price for a Mortal-grade Glock 19!
The gun could only be used on those at the QI Gathering stage, but a single round was sold for 10,000mp, the price was tripled for one at the Earth grade!
Just what sort of bs was this?
Gu Chen didn’t even bother checking the others and immediately returned to the category page. He went to check cultivation techniques next.
There weren’t any surprises there as it was just what he had expected. He only needed to put the grade of cultivation technique and the type of spirit root attribute he wanted.
The prices for cultivation techniques were also more acceptable compared to the prices of weapons. An immortal-grade cultivation technique that could allow a cultivator to train to the Saint Realm was only sold for 10,000mp.
Gu Chen even felt it was cheap considering how strong a Saint Realm cultivator was; it was the last realm before entering the Immortal Realms after all.
Next, Gu Chen moved to the magical treasures category. Here, he found different types of magical treasures, including growth-type magical treasures that could get stronger along with their owners. Examples were Feng Shuran’s silver threads.
There were soul-bound magical treasures as well that could be linked to the owner’s soul. As long as they were alive and didn’t give it away, no one else would be able to use the treasure even if they stole it.
The prices were higher than the prices of cultivation techniques at the same grade, but it was still better than prices for weapons. Gu Chen found it acceptable for a magical treasure at the Heavenly grade to cost 30,000mp.
There was a conversion option at the bottom of the categories page. According to Gu Chen’s understanding of video games back on Earth, it was obviously a way of exchanging real-world money for in-game currency.
In the case of the system, it should allow him to trade spirit stones or gold coins for MP.
He already had a plan in mind; if the conversion rate was good enough, he could purchase weaker magical treasures from the system and sell them for a high price, then exchange the income for more MP!
The system didn’t have limits on how many items he could purchase, so this could be his ultimate MP glitch!
Feeling happy about his plan, Gu Chen moved to the skills category. There, he found all sorts of magical skills and martial techniques, their prices being the same as those of cultivation techniques.
When he was done checking, he moved to the next category.
Items.
A new page appeared in front of Gu Chen; his eyes lit up when he saw the things inside the item category.
Medkits, teleportation scrolls, mission cards, super medkits, defence spell cards, outfits, spawn effects...
There were a lot of useful things in this category that made Gu Chen’s eyes flash with a sharp glint. However, that glint quickly vanished after he checked the price for a normal medkit and found out that one was sold for 50,000mp. As for a super medkit, a single one would cost him twice the price of an ordinary medkit.
It was just unreasonable! Medkits were essential items and shouldn’t cost this much. Gu Chen wanted to complain, but whom could he complain to? The system wouldn’t reply to him if his commands weren’t related to any of its functions, and it definitely didn’t have a customer care function.
Gu Chen sighed and checked the price for mission cards; his mood improved a bit when he found out that one was sold for only 500mp. This was the best price he had seen since he opened the store that was just unlocked.
For some reason, Gu Chen suddenly felt that the system did this to hurt his feelings. He only got so much MP each time he completed a mission and earned a reward, yet almost everything in the system was going to take him months of saving up to buy.
Was the system trying to point out that he was broke?
’At least there’s the conversion option; I can use the glitch to get a bunch of MP quickly.’ Gu Chen sighed weakly as he thought of selling magical treasures and turning the money into MP.
After spending some more time in the item category, Gu Chen finally moved to the Edibles category. This was the second category that he was curious about the most.
As the system page changed, a new list appeared in front of Gu Chen. His eyes gradually widened, and his mouth hung open as he stared at the names on the list, old memories rushing back.
.....
Smoky jollof and chicken.
Pepper stew with fish.
Suya.
White rice and fish sauce.
Fried rice and turkey.
Yam and egg sauce...
...
The list just kept going; it included different types of drinks as well, and Gu Chen had the option to get them cold or warm.
Imaginary tears dropped down from Gu Chen’s eyes; he felt touched. All of these were food that he used to have back on Earth; he had missed them dearly even though he had forgotten about most of them after staying here for a long time.
What made it even better was that each time he bought any of the meals, it would only cost him 1mp!
"Thank you, system." Gu Chen said emotionally, even though the system wouldn’t respond.
