The living room light was dim, but Chi Zaozao could clearly see the outline of the person there, resolute and cold, both familiar and oddly detached.
She didn’t know why he was sitting there by himself, but it seemed unreasonable not to greet him.
Carrying her book bag, Chi Zaozao walked over, not daring to get too close, and asked timidly from a distance, “Brother Ye Que, you’re still not resting, so late at night?”
Raising an eyebrow, Chi Zaozao guessed that given his stinginess with words, he probably wouldn’t bother with her.
After speaking, she quietly turned around…
“Do you even realize how late it is?”
Suddenly, a cold voice came from behind her.
Chi Zaozao’s spine stiffened, and she was immediately filled with an ominous premonition.
With a brave face, she turned around, lowered her head, looking like a small child who had done something wrong and was begging for forgiveness.
“Sorry for making you worry, but I promise, I definitely won’t come back this late again!
Besides, I’m only back so late because of studying, and with Wanjun accompanying me, it’s very safe, so don’t fret.”
Ye Que’s cold gaze swept over her, settling firmly on Chi Zaozao, his face expressionless, “Are you in love with someone?”
If it weren’t for a romance, would she be coming home this late?
One day could be dismissed, but recently, it seemed like she was coming home at eight or nine every night, regardless of his concern.
Today was the latest; it was now midnight, and she had just returned.
“What?”
In love?
Who was she to be in love with?
Besides, she had resolved to marry no one but him in this lifetime.
Suddenly, Chi Zaozao lost her meek ‘little white rabbit’ demeanor, walked over, and plopped down next to Ye Que, raising her hand as if taking an oath.
“I, Chi Zaozao, will love only one man, Ye Que, in this lifetime.
Who am I to fall in love with others!”
She threw him a coquettish glance, then quickly looped her arm through his and giggled, her head resting in the crook of his elbow, regaining her softness.
“Brother Ye Que, are you thinking that because I’ve been leaving early and returning late with Tang Wanjun, you think I’m in love with him, and that’s why you’re jealous?”
Sniffing, Chi Zaozao thought she really did smell the tang of jealousy.
However, in the next second, she was pushed away unceremoniously.
He stood up and coldly left a few words behind, “Get some sleep.”
Chi Zaozao was dumbfounded, watching his retreating back, and she stood there, hearing the sound of her heart breaking.
He wasn’t jealous?
Or perhaps, he never really cared about her at all.
Chi Zaozao pursed her lips in dismay, clutching her book bag, and followed behind him.
Just as he was about to push the door open and enter his room, Chi Zaozao called out urgently, “Husband!”
His back to her, he stood tall and haughty.
She stood two meters away, staring at him, a strange bitterness welling up in her heart.
“Do you…
do you actually like me at all?”
She thought he probably didn’t, otherwise, he wouldn’t always be so cold to her.
Anyway, Chi Zaozao loved him, but she also had her pride.
If her constant efforts failed to win his favor, then she would rather give up than continue this exhausting routine of leaving early and coming back late, clutching textbooks each day just for the sake of getting into university for him.
In her heart, she guessed he would turn around and tell her, no, he didn’t like her!
But to her disappointment, he didn’t turn around, and he didn’t even spare the three words she didn’t want to hear, simply pushing open the door and disappearing before her eyes.
The response she received was still silence.
In that moment, Chi Zaozao felt utterly disheartened and trudged back to her own room with her book bag.
