He Mu watched Chen Jing run away, watched He Xiaosa bring people over, then watched the man as He Xiaosa pointed with trembling fingers, and finally watched the man go to carry He Fendou.

The man was very strong, effortlessly loading He Fendou onto the gurney by himself.

The man was speaking to He Xiaosa, but He Xiaosa was currently out of his wits, his anxious eyes fixed on Zhao Meimei, completely unaware that they had the wrong person.

He Mu asked, “Brother, where are you taking him?”

The man looked at He Mu and said, “I’m a hearse driver. You hired me, so naturally I’m transporting the deceased back to your hometown.”

Upon hearing “deceased” and seeing her eldest son being loaded onto the vehicle, Zhao Meimei grew somewhat flustered, even though she was still angry with He Fendou.

He Mu held Zhao Meimei’s wrinkled and slack hand, comforting her, “Grandma, don’t worry. This driver must have made a mistake.”

He Mu then glanced at the “deceased” He Fendou on the gurney and said, “Going back to the hometown is too troublesome. Just take him directly to the crematorium and have him cremated as soon as possible.”

“Huh?”

“Ah!”

The driver was about to complain that this wasn’t what they had agreed on—the crematorium was nearby and would cost much less, while sending him to their hometown was a longer journey and much more expensive.

Meanwhile, the “deceased” on the gurney howled and scrambled to his feet. “I’m not dead! You can’t send me to the crematorium!”

He Fendou had indeed fainted from fright, but he woke up after a while. Unsure how to handle the situation, he simply continued pretending to be unconscious.

The driver watched in disbelief as the “deceased” he had just loaded onto the vehicle climbed up, frantically jumped off the gurney, and stumbled, falling to the ground.

“Ah!”

The driver was thoroughly shocked, screaming in fright while flailing his arms and legs at He Fendou. His moves were quite skilled, like those of a trained fighter, leaving He Fendou howling in pain.

He Xiaosa snapped back to reality and hurried over to break up the fight. “Sir, it’s a mistake, a mistake! It’s my older brother, not my mother!”

The driver belatedly realized that the deceased they had mentioned earlier was supposed to be an old woman. He immediately exclaimed, “Damn it! Then why did you point at him?” causing him to misunderstand.

He Xiaosa swallowed hard, glancing fearfully at Zhao Meimei. “This… it’s hard to explain.”

The driver followed He Xiaosa’s gaze to Zhao Meimei and widened his eyes in shock. “Holy shit, what the hell is going on with you? Don’t you even know if someone is dead or not? I’m telling you now, the deposit is non-refundable.”

Cursing under his breath, the driver pushed the gurney away.

He Xiaosa rummaged through his bag and pulled out the death certificate issued by the hospital, laughing bitterly. “What kind of lousy hospital is this? Don’t they even know if someone is dead or not?”

But was it just an illusion that Zhao Meimei had been lifeless and ice-cold?

He Mu supported Zhao Meimei. “Grandma, let’s go home.”

Zhao Meimei had no objections. She felt perfectly fine, with no discomfort at all. It was much more comfortable at home, and everything outside cost money.

He Mu and Zhao Meimei left, leaving only He Fendou and He Xiaosa staring at each other in bewilderment.

“Did she really come back to life?”

“Probably…”

The two brothers were filled with countless questions and fear, yet they failed to realize that their mother being alive was something worth celebrating.

After they left, Su Mu came running over.

He Mu thought that when He Mu learned of her grandmother’s passing, she would surely be devastated. Moreover, from the information he had gathered through his assistant, her other family members treated her poorly. If he offered comfort and assistance during her most vulnerable moment, it would undoubtedly bring them much closer.

The door to the morgue was wide open, and there was no one outside. Su Mu walked through the entrance and saw a registration desk, with a man in a white lab coat lying motionless beneath it.

Su Mu immediately crouched down and shook the man. “Hey? What’s wrong with you? Wake up!”

The man stirred after a few shakes, opening his eyes, but they were filled with terror as he shouted, “The corpse came back to life!”

Then, he fainted again.

The corpse came back to life?

Su Mu was puzzled. Once someone was sent to the morgue, how could they possibly come back to life…

“I’ll find a way to save Grandma. Don’t move her until I return!”

These words, which He Mu had shouted over the phone to her family before leaving, suddenly flashed through his mind.

He began to suspect that He Mu had the ability to bring people back to life, perhaps even to travel through time.

But to be cautious, he decided to investigate Zhao Meimei first to avoid any misunderstandings.

Su Mu looked around and spotted a surveillance camera above. He immediately took out his phone and called a friend.

“Hey, help me access the security system of the hospital. I need a few surveillance clips…”

By the time Su Mu settled into the back seat of his luxury car, he already had the morgue surveillance footage on his phone.

Zhao Meimei had been wheeled into the morgue. Although covered with a white sheet, her stiff posture suggested she was truly dead.

Moreover, Su Mu didn’t believe the hospital staff would make such a basic mistake—continuing resuscitation for over an hour after confirming no vital signs before declaring death and transferring her to the morgue.

However.

Zhao Meimei had walked out of the morgue, and the man on duty had fainted from fright.

Dead, then alive again.

It was real.

Su Mu casually made another call. “Bro, help me erase these surveillance clips. I don’t want anyone else seeing them.”

“Sure, it’ll be done in no time,” the other person replied. “But, Boss Su, isn’t this a bit creepy?”

“Don’t overthink it. Maybe it’s just that heaven leaves a way out. The old lady did enough good deeds that she wasn’t meant to die yet.”

Su Mu hung up and continued scrolling through the surveillance footage, eventually seeing He Mu being beaten.

Su Mu frowned. “It seems not everyone in this world is fit to be a parent.”

Indeed, you need to pass a test to get a driver’s license, but a birth certificate requires no such evaluation.

In the hospital director’s office.

Lin Dongshun sat at his desk, carefully reviewing Zhao Meimei’s medical records, examining every detail.

His second son, Lin Yi, dressed in a white lab coat, said, “Dad, maybe Old Chen was drinking on the job again, talking nonsense while drunk. I went to check myself—Old Chen reeked of alcohol. He’s a repeat offender. Bringing someone back to life? That’s not so easy.”

Lin Dongshun shook his head. “There’s something strange about this. The surveillance on the basement floor just happened to malfunction at this exact time. How can I not be suspicious?”

That kid Su Mu never acts without a motive. He wouldn’t suddenly come asking me to look after an old lady for no reason. Given his usual tastes, he’d go for a sexy beauty, not some innocent little flower. There must be something fishy going on.

Lin Dongshun asked again, “Any updates from the lab?”

Lin Yi replied, “Not yet. The equipment suddenly malfunctioned.”

Lin Yi proposed a hypothesis, “Dad, do you think it’s possible that Su Mu set up a scheme to mess with us?”

Lin Dongshun fell silent, looking at Lin Yi with an expression reserved for idiots, then tossed the medical records aside.

The person was treated in the hospital and died in the operating room. How audacious would Su Mu have to be to use a human life in a scheme?
