Not long after briefing Jiang Hong, Wan Hao received a message from him. The message contained the profiles, addresses, and travel details of those four individuals.
Three of these four people were locals from Dayang City, but they were all from small counties. One was from a neighboring city. Without exception, the movements of these four people over the past two months had been strange.
They inexplicably resigned from their jobs and appeared in various cities from time to time.
Wan Hao was eating breakfast while looking over this information. Just as he finished reviewing the details, Jiang Hong called again.
"Wan Hao, I found the place you asked me to check. That place is in Nanming District, under Dayang City. It was jointly built by a group of wealthy people, but I don't have enough clearance to investigate the specific villa you asked about."
Wan Hao frowned. If Captain Jiang, a Criminal Police captain of a city, couldn't investigate it, it meant the villa owner's information had been encrypted. And this situation could only mean one thing.
The owner of that villa was also a Ghost Controller!
"I understand. I'll investigate that myself. Thank you for your trouble, Captain Jiang."
After a brief exchange, they hung up, but Wan Hao felt that this matter was not simple.
If the villa owner was a Ghost Controller, then why did the Post Office ask him to deliver the letter?
Was it to make that person Control a second ghost?
Thinking this, Wan Hao took out the letter again. In his perception, the Supernatural Entity residing in the letter was very weak, almost negligible, unable to affect even ordinary people.
"Is it because this letter isn't red?"
Wan Hao guessed.
Wan Hao wanted to see what was written in the letter, but he was worried about attracting a Malevolent Ghost and worsening his Revival.
"I'll deliver a few more letters first and see. I'll encounter a Red Letter sooner or later!"
With that thought, Wan Hao took out his Satellite Phone and dialed the Operator, Liu Jiaojiao.
"This is Ghost Controller Headquarters, I am Liu Jiaojiao!"
It was still that delicate loli voice.
"I need you to help me investigate someone: the owner of Villa Number 4 in Jusu Villa. I need their information."
"Wan Hao, you are not yet the official Person in Charge. You have limited authority during this period."
This statement made Wan Hao frown.
This Liu Jiaojiao didn't know how to handle things properly. He would inevitably become the Person in Charge sooner or later. Not only was this Operator not building a good relationship with him, but she also directly refused his request. This was worse than Jiang Hong's approach.
This made Wan Hao doubt Liu Jiaojiao's professionalism, but considering Captain Wang was quite easygoing, he guessed Captain Wang had instilled this habit in her.
"Have you always been the one responsible for Captain Wang's calls?"
"Yes."
"Transfer me to Zhao Jianguo!"
"Captain Zhao is not in the operations room right now. He went to handle the situation caused by the Ghost Controllers heading to support Dachang City."
Wan Hao took a deep breath, suppressing his dissatisfaction.
He didn't know if it was because his seniority was insufficient or if this was simply Liu Jiaojiao's attitude toward handling matters, but it made him very unhappy.
"I am currently handling a Supernatural Event. Connect me to Zhao Jianguo; I need him to grant me clearance!"
"Then you first need to record the information about the Supernatural Event. After evaluation, it will be reported to the superiors. Go ahead, I will record and evaluate it for you first."
As she spoke, the sound of paper turning came from the other end.
This made Wan Hao laugh in anger.
"I don't know how you communicated with Captain Wang before, but I think it's purely because his fate is strong that he's lived this long. Now, transfer me to Zhao Jianguo!"
Wan Hao's tone became harsh, showing no deference to the loli-voiced girl.
"You need to record first—"
Before Liu Jiaojiao could finish speaking, Wan Hao interrupted: "Ghost Controllers make their own judgments when handling Supernatural Events; you don't need to dictate. Transfer me to Zhao Jianguo now!"
There was silence for a moment, followed by a beeping sound, and then the call was transferred, revealing Zhao Jianguo's voice.
"Wan Hao, what is it?"
"I am handling a Supernatural Event and need to check someone's details, but Liu Jiaojiao said my clearance is insufficient. I need you to grant me clearance!"
Zhao Jianguo was silent for a moment before saying, "Handling Supernatural Events takes precedence over everything. Although you haven't officially taken office, I am granting you the Person in Charge's clearance now. Headquarters will not treat its Ghost Controllers handling Supernatural Events unfairly."
Zhao Jianguo agreed to grant Wan Hao clearance and then started feeding him motivational speeches.
However, Wan Hao was not interested in that. Noticing Zhao Jianguo starting to stray from the topic, he interrupted.
"Also, I want to change my Operator. Supernatural Events are a race against time, and I don't like Liu Jiaojiao's way of handling things!"
Zhao Jianguo didn't refuse and immediately agreed.
After hanging up, Zhao Jianguo rubbed his temples wearily. He had been very busy these past few days, and his mind was exhausted, but he still dialed a number.
"The Dayang City Head is officially appointed now. Postpone the training and assessment. Also, replace the Operator assigned to follow up, Liu Jiaojiao."
"Captain Zhao, we are short-staffed right now; we don't have spare Operators."
"Pick one from the reserve Operators!"
"Which one should we choose?"
Zhao Jianguo recalled Wan Hao's profile and remembered that Wan Hao listened closely to his mother, so he said into the phone:
"Choose someone a bit older, someone sensible who knows how to take care of people!"
"Understood, Captain Zhao!"
After making these arrangements, Zhao Jianguo prepared to rest, but someone entered the tent. Upon seeing this person, Zhao Jianguo asked:
"Li Jun, how is Professor Wang doing?"
After hanging up, Wan Hao checked the Ghost Controller website. Changing the Operator would take time, and he planned to use this interval to learn more about Ghost Controller knowledge.
Wan Hao opened a personal page belonging to someone named Bruce Pi. Many of this person's posts were highly popular and widely recognized.
He saw a very interesting paper discussing the Puzzle Piece Theory among Malevolent Ghosts, which greatly piqued Wan Hao's interest.
It roughly stated that Malevolent Ghosts possess complementary compatibility Puzzle Pieces, and they search for their pieces by killing. The more complete the Puzzle Piece, the more terrifying the ghost!
Since this was a Headquarters-exclusive website, Wan Hao also saw that the theory about Controlling two ghosts was first proposed by this Professor.
As he was reading, the Satellite Phone next to him rang.
"Hello, my name is Wang Hongman, and I will be your exclusive Operator from now on."
The voice on the phone was not Liu Jiaojiao's, but a charming and gentle one.
Wan Hao cut to the chase, immediately stating what he needed to investigate, as the letter mentioned a one-day time limit.
"Understood, please wait a moment!"
Not long after, Wang Hongman's charming and gentle voice said:
"I have found that the owner of that villa is named Xia Xia. She is a Ghost Controller at an establishment called the Nange Club in Dayang City. That club is composed entirely of Ghost Controllers."
