As footsteps began to sound, Wan Hao also placed the Golden Pistol in his hand at his waist, which was the most convenient place to draw a weapon.
When you don't know who is coming or what their purpose is, it's best not to show a weapon, as this might provoke the other party into a sudden attack.
After all, Ghost Controllers are constantly tormented by Malevolent Ghosts, so very few of them have stable minds.
Moreover, Wan Hao currently dared not use any Supernatural Power; the best approach was to avoid any conflict. Cocking the pistol was just a precaution, not an indication that Wan Hao intended to fight the other person.
The footsteps grew closer, and Wan Hao adjusted his mindset, ensuring he didn't show fear or reveal anything.
After all, a single ghost costs at least one hundred million; if others knew his current state was unstable, they might do something to him.
“Creak!”
The door was pushed open.
A young woman walked in. She didn't look very old, perhaps high school or college age, dressed in Lolita attire, but her chest was prominently developed, a wide bust that seemed inconsistent with her loli outfit.
She wore exquisite makeup, but her expression was cold and severe, with many bloodshot veins in her eyes. In her hand, she held a mask—a very bizarre mask, not resembling one from any anime, but more like a Ghost Face Mask!
The mask was incredibly lifelike, as if it were a real person's face, yet its expression was ferocious, with a green face and bared fangs, conveying extreme anger, as if harboring a rage that could burn everything away!
Wan Hao didn't sense much of a Ghost Controller aura from the woman, but the mask in her hand gave him a chilling coldness, like facing a Malevolent Ghost directly!
Just looking at the mask made Wan Hao inexplicably irritable.
“That mask is a ghost!”
Wan Hao trusted his judgment; the coldness emanating from the mask was too obvious to be a mere cosplay accessory.
The woman looked at Wan Hao with a cold, arrogant expression, speaking in a less-than-pleasant tone.
“Who are you, and why are you here!”
The woman’s demeanor was very strange: a Lolita outfit paired with the bust of a mature woman, yet her expression and tone were queenly. Combined with the cold, eerie nature of the mask in her hand, the entire person appeared bizarre!
The irritation he felt upon seeing the mask earlier intensified when he heard the woman's cold questioning tone. Recalling the series of events he had encountered recently, an unnamable anger flared up in Wan Hao, and he replied in an equally unpleasant manner.
“It’s none of your business why I’m here. I am the Dayang City Head; what are you?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Wan Hao realized something was wrong; he wasn't usually like this.
‘My emotions seem to be affected... Is it that mask?’ Wan Hao thought, shifting his gaze upward, deliberately avoiding looking at the mask in the woman's hand.
Looking at the woman’s upper body, indeed, once his line of sight was away from the mask, the irritation in his heart lessened significantly.
Hearing Wan Hao’s less-than-pleasant attitude, anger flashed in the woman's eyes, but she quickly controlled it. Remembering something, she placed the mask behind her back.
“Dayang City Head? Wasn't Captain Wang the Dayang City Head? When did that change?”
Clearly, this woman was well-informed about the situation in Dayang City.
Wan Hao didn't hide anything. Captain Wang's death and his own succession would soon spread. As a Ghost Controller, she would surely pay attention to such news, and he needed to use the authority of the Dayang City Head to intimidate her for now.
“He died two days ago. My name is Wan Hao, the newly appointed Head.”
Without the mask's influence, Wan Hao regained his previous calmness, his tone no longer aggressive.
The woman sized Wan Hao up and noticed the Golden Gloves he was wearing, nodding slightly, thereby acknowledging Wan Hao's identity.
After all, the armed personnel outside the Villa area were not just anyone who could be mobilized.
“My name is Nan Ge. As the Head, you should know some information about me.”
Hearing this, Wan Hao’s eyes narrowed slightly; he hadn't expected this person to be the founder of the Nange Club.
‘Xia Xia is also part of the Club, and Nan Ge’s arrival now clearly means she knows about Xia Xia’s Ghost Revival. Is she here to clean up, investigate something... or does she have other motives?’
Wan Hao began contemplating the purpose of the woman named Nan Ge, but before he could think for long, Nan Ge spoke.
“Why are you here?”
Nan Ge had already seen the deceased Xia Xia before entering. Xia Xia’s Ghost Armor was also gone, and there was no Malevolent Ghost aura nearby. Seeing that Xia Xia clearly hadn't entered the house but the door was open, combined with the armed forces outside, Nan Ge decided to investigate thoroughly.
She hadn't expected to encounter the newly appointed Head upon entering. Nan Ge guessed that Wan Hao had apprehended Xia Xia’s Ghost Armor.
The Head is responsible for handling Supernatural Events within their jurisdiction, but the problem lay right here:
Wan Hao appeared too quickly!
The Supernatural Event hadn't even erupted before it was handled, and there were people guarding the perimeter—clearly showing he was well-prepared!
‘Is she suspecting I attacked Xia Xia or something?’
Wan Hao knew that whether a fight broke out between them depended entirely on whether he could explain the situation clearly.
But could he casually disclose matters concerning the Ghost Post Office?
Obviously not. Wan Hao hadn't even reported it to Headquarters; how could he casually tell someone he just met, even if this person had a good working relationship with Captain Wang?
“In Captain Wang’s remaining intelligence, it was mentioned that Xia Xia was close to Ghost Revival. I came to confirm her situation, but I couldn't reach her by phone. I suspected she might have undergone Ghost Revival, so I specifically came to take a look, but I didn't expect to encounter her Ghost Revival right as I arrived.”
Saying this, Wan Hao took out his phone, unlocked it, opened the call log page, and handed the phone to Nan Ge.
Nan Ge remained silent upon hearing this, still maintaining her aloof demeanor. After taking the phone, she indeed saw that Wan Hao had called Xia Xia multiple times, all unanswered.
Comparing this with the timeline she knew, Nan Ge confirmed that what Wan Hao said was true; he had indeed called Xia Xia.
‘Such a coincidence?’
Nan Ge still didn't entirely believe it. There were no coincidences in the face of Supernatural Events, but Nan Ge couldn't find any loopholes in Wan Hao's words at the moment.
She glanced at Wan Hao again; his expression was normal, and only a faint chill emanated from him. It was clear his condition was good; even after dealing with Xia Xia’s Ghost Armor, he showed no signs of poor state.
Nan Ge weighed the pros and cons and ultimately decided not to press the matter further.
“Sister Xia’s Ghost Revival is a fact, and it’s irreversible. It has little to do with this Wan Hao. There’s no need for me to create conflict with a Head,” Nan Ge reasoned to herself.
After a moment of silence, Nan Ge returned the phone to Wan Hao.
“Then how do you plan to deal with Sister Xia’s ghost?” Nan Ge stared at Wan Hao with bloodshot eyes, wanting to know his course of action.
