Chapter 12: Fury

Mythos: The Undefeated One

Luke was in the midst of a glowing white mist, it felt soothing, mystical and yet powerful.

’I’m back.’

Luke exhaled outwards, the pain of being electrocuted still coursed through his entire being, causing his head to spin, however Luke wasn’t focused on any of that, as holding him down were vines.

He couldn’t see them clearly due to the darkness but currently with the help of the mist, he could feel and sense the presence of various vines curled around him. Not forgetting the fact that they pulsed as if they were alive, Luke pulled himself from the hold of the vines, standing up although barely.

[Blood fiend] ( Level 12 ( HP : 200/200 )

As he stood, one large green eye shone from the darkness meters away from him.

Luke’s face became paler than it already was, he had hoped he would be able to at least escape or have some more moment of respite before a fight but was simply wrong.

The dimly lit hole suddenly glowed, red vines lifting curling all around the darkness, Luke was now aware he was deep within the ground.

Around the whole place were red vines, and in the middle of it all was a twisted red vine abomination that stood at a staggering three meters, with one green hole gaping from the top of its abhorrent mossy face.

Around Luke were various unconscious individuals who lay on the ground wrapped in the vines.

The vines were already protruding their body, some were on the verge of death, while some... were already dead.

Luke felt a chill run down his spine as scattered across the place in numbers that seemed uncountable were various bloodied bones.

Although Luke could identify that some of the bones weren’t familiar, some were eerily human.

’Such horror. ’

Luke thought through gritted teeth as his gaze fell on this ghastly sight, he wondered about the number of people that had come to the same hill after all these years, only to be killed in the most cowardly and terrifying way.

He felt something ignite in his heart, for a moment he felt as though he was no longer in control of his emotions. The vine abomination made a frenzied roar and lunged its pulsating red vines forward towards the silhouette of luke in the glowing mist.

Luke, noticing this, equipped the undefeated one’s common sword , red vines tore towards him from all sides, including the ones he had just removed from his body.

Although outwards, his expression was hidden, Luke was filled with unrestrained anger, he had a higher chance of killing the vile creature, slightly because he had passed the most important phase of the battle, which was to wake up, he couldn’t have been the first to have achieved it though as he knew that there must have been someone else who had done it before in those thirty long years.

’So why did that person die?’ A mind monstrosity with an ability of giving mind attacks should be physically weak, but it had been thirty long years, who knew the crazy powers it had gotten.

Luke instinctively side stepped the vines that extended towards him and rushed forward his sword held tightly in his hand, before he could do anything though the vines immediately held him in place, sharp prickles tearing through its slightly translucent surface and clawing its way through his unscathed armour but Luke didn’t mind.

Gathering all of his mundane strength, he did something no principled swordsman would do in a battle, he threw his sword forward, perfectly aimed towards the abomination’s eyes.

It hit the target, green liquid bubbling out from its green eye. The abomination grew still for a few seconds.

’Nailed it.’

Luke spoke inwards as he watched the abomination slightly shudder, however he was still held in place by the vines, meaning it was still alive.

He dismissed his sword and equipped it back immediately cutting through the red vines holding him down, Luke although weak, felt adrenaline overflow through him, the mist twirled as if corresponding to Luke’s will, Luke’s hair fluttered, he rushed forward cutting through the red vines on his way, if he was going to die then the abomination was going to die too.

His cuts were clean and fast, not sharp or precise like that of a trained swordsman but one who needed to end his prey.

Feeling the enemy getting closer, the abomination surged backwards, aiming to flee, the blood red vines rose from the ground to create a vine wall.

"No!"

Luke’s voice roared in the defiant tone, transformed through the mask as he watched a wall of vines rise faster than he could take two steps, predicting the angle at which the vines would intertwine at a particular point on air, like threw the sword again, and luckily he hit its target.

The vine wall’s creation stopped abruptly and Luke jumped over it, his sword had hit the abomination causing it to pause.

The creature, noticing that there was no longer time to create a wall, sent vines towards Luke, Luke’s sword was lodged in the creature’s body and so Luke grabbed the vines, ignoring the prickles that tore through his skin and pulled himself towards the abomination.

His vision had begun to falter even his legs growing numb, but Luke did not stop, not yet, he grabbed the hilt of his sword and drove it deeper into the creature. The creature didn’t hesitate and wrapped free vines around Luke and began sucking his blood.

Luke drove out the sword and lodged it at another part of its body again and again and again. He continued, slowly feeling his consciousness slip, his limbs went completely numb, but his hands kept moving. He struck again and again, trying to kill the abomination, because who else would get this chance?

What else would get this far?

This was his only chance to succeed on becoming the undefeated one, either way he was going to die and never find his sisters and pippa, so he continued striking and striking until he couldn’t move again.
