Shigure first invested one World Point into each of his three core attributes: Strength, Constitution, and Spirit.
What happened next nearly made his eyes pop out of their sockets.
[Host: Senju Shigure] [Age: 39 (+)] [Strength: 55/60] [Constitution: 55/60] [Spirit: 60] [Earth Affinity: 50] [Wind Affinity: 50] [Fire Affinity: 50] [Water Affinity: 1] [Mental Ability: Sensory Perception] [Power Rating: chunin] [World Points: 47] Shigure rubbed his eyes, struggling to comprehend what he was seeing.
He could understand that one World Point increased an attribute’s upper limit by ten, although the actual result differed somewhat from his original theory.
The upper limits of all three attributes had risen by ten, yet his Spirit had immediately reached its new maximum.
What was going on?
More importantly, the moment his strength reached the chunin level, an entirely new Water Affinity had appeared.
“Does a shinobi unlock more chakra natures as they become stronger?” However, Shigure quickly remembered Senju Akira, who was only known to use Water Release.
That suggested this sudden change was more likely another benefit of the system.
After thinking it over, Shigure continued investing his World Points.
One point.
Two.
Five.
Ten.
He ultimately invested another ten World Points into each of his three core attributes, then poured the remaining seventeen into his Wind Affinity.
His status panel changed once again.
[Host: Senju Shigure] [Age: 39 (+)] [Strength: 55/160] [Constitution: 55/160] [Spirit: 160] [Earth Affinity: 50] [Wind Affinity: 220] [Fire Affinity: 50] [Water Affinity: 1] [Mental Ability: Wide-Range Sensory Perception] [Power Rating: Elite chunin] [World Points: 0] A faint sense of understanding surfaced in Shigure’s mind.
He finally believed he understood the true purpose of World Points.
He had also formed a reasonable explanation for the unusual changes in his attributes.
Spirit represented his spiritual energy, while World Points could only increase its upper limit.
As for why his Spirit immediately reached the new limit whenever that restriction was removed, Shigure believed the answer was simple: his spiritual energy had always been far greater than the system could initially display.
It was like possessing an entire bucket of water but only having a cup to pour it into.
Naturally, he could fill the cup without using all the water.
If someone replaced that cup with a large jug, he could still fill it.
Shigure suspected this had something to do with the fact that he was a transmigrator.
His Wind Affinity had also reached its new maximum.
That proved the decades he had spent studying Wind Release had not been wasted.
Once the system removed the restriction, his accumulated understanding was finally reflected in his attributes.
The clearest evidence was his comparatively low Strength and Constitution.
At thirty-nine years old, his body was no longer particularly strong.
His physical condition had always been his greatest weakness.
“Good heavens!
If I’d known this sooner, I wouldn’t have wasted more than thirty years’ worth of free attribute points!” World Points raised his Attribute Caps.
Free Attribute Points could increase the actual values directly, while ordinary training could raise them gradually.
The thought of all the free attribute points he had wasted over the decades made his heart ache.
“At least my mastery of Wind Release is astonishingly high!” Suppressing his regret, Shigure examined his panel again and felt considerably better.
“Heh, heh…” He had never expected each World Point to increase his Wind Affinity’s upper limit by ten.
In other words, his understanding of Wind Release had already reached an extraordinary level.
For Senju Shigure, who had remained a genin for more than thirty years, this sudden increase in strength was an unimaginable blessing.
Akira instinctively moved a few steps away from Shigure, who kept grinning to himself for no apparent reason.
A moment later, however, Akira’s pupils contracted as he stared at Shigure in disbelief.
Chūnin!
Shigure has broken through to the chunin level?
Akira was not the only one who noticed.
Uzumaki Nagakaze had sensed the change the moment Shigure’s chakra reached the chunin level.
However, after learning more about Shigure’s background, he did not react strongly.
A chunin?
He’s finally strong enough to serve as cannon fodder on a battlefield.
The Senju shinobi also vaguely sensed that Shigure had become stronger, but their reactions were equally subdued.
Advancing to the chunin level after spending nearly fifty years alive was hardly something worth celebrating.
Shigure had originally intended to flaunt his newfound strength before the younger generation.
When he saw their complete lack of interest, however, he abandoned the idea.
“Honestly, how can everyone ignore such a joyous occasion?” Shigure shook his head and sighed dramatically.
By sunset, the procession finally reached the Uzumaki Clan’s territory.
The Uzumaki lived north of the Senju, with their lands bordered by the vast sea.
On the other side of that sea lay the territories controlled by the powerful Hozuki and Kaguya clans.
Together, those two clans dominated the region and controlled most of its resources.
Unsatisfied with what they already possessed, the ambitious Hozuki and Kaguya had begun expanding their territories.
They frequently dispatched shinobi across the sea to raid the Uzumaki Clan.
Every invasion forced the Uzumaki to suffer heavy casualties before they could drive their enemies back.
There was little they could do about it.
The Uzumaki Clan specialised in sealing techniques.
Their chakra reserves far surpassed those of ordinary clans, but they remained at a severe disadvantage against the Kaguya’s overwhelming close-combat abilities combined with the Hozuki’s long-range support.
Shigure flipped through the information the Uzumaki had provided, yawned, and decided to get some sleep.
After spending so long on the road, he was thoroughly exhausted.
Following a full day of rest, Shigure rose early the next morning and began training.
However, when he noticed the astonished looks directed at him from across the morning training ground, even someone as shameless as Shigure could not stop his weathered face from reddening slightly.
“You’re never too old to improve!
What would a bunch of brats like you know?” Ignoring the younger shinobi, Shigure strapped several dozen kilograms of weights to his legs and began running laps around the field.
One lap.
Two laps.
Three laps.
Four laps.
A bizarre sight soon appeared on the enormous training ground.
The Senju Clan’s Shigure was exercising.
The Uzumaki had not formally welcomed their arrival.
A single jonin had merely received them and arranged their accommodations.
Shigure did not care in the slightest.
His clothes were soon drenched in sweat, but that did nothing to diminish his enthusiasm.
Before long, he dropped to the ground and began doing push-ups, forcing himself to continue despite his trembling arms and unsteady legs.
It was his own specialised training routine.
At least, that was what Shigure called it.
To everyone else, his methods made little sense.
Nevertheless, Shigure felt as though he had rediscovered the passion of his youth.
The goal he had once pursued as a young man filled his mind again.
Become stronger!
Never stop becoming stronger!
Just like that, a month quietly passed.
For the first time in his life, Shigure’s Strength and Constitution both reached one hundred.
Another day arrived.
When Shigure completed his training that morning, both attributes finally broke through the one-hundred-point threshold and rose to 101.
At that moment, his strength underwent a tremendous transformation.
The Elite chunin rating displayed on his panel quietly changed once again.
[Power Rating: Jōnin] “Finally!
I’ve reached the jonin level!
Hahaha!” Shigure wiped the sweat from his face and hurried back to his room.
“Now that I possess jonin-level chakra, I can accelerate my research into Wind Release nature transformation!” He drained the water on his table in a single breath, his eyes shining more brightly than ever before.
Just then, hurried footsteps sounded outside.
An Uzumaki jonin stopped before his room and knocked on the door.
“Shigure!
The clan leader has summoned you to the council hall!” “Oh?
What happened?” Shigure detected the urgency in the man’s voice and immediately became suspicious.
During the past month, the Senju delegation had practically been forgotten.
Apart from Uzumaki Nagakaze, who had visited them once, not a single member of the Uzumaki leadership had bothered to appear.
Shigure had almost begun to feel as though he had come here on holiday.
“Shinobi from the Kaguya and Hozuki clans have appeared at sea.
They’re a little over fifty kilometres from our shore!
The clan leader wants you to attend a meeting and discuss how we should respond!” Understanding flashed through Shigure’s eyes.
“Damn it!
They ignored us when everything was peaceful, but the moment an enemy appears, they suddenly remember I exist!” Although inwardly displeased, Shigure changed into a clean set of clothes.
He then adopted a thoroughly sour expression and followed the jonin outside.
