“Good morning, Shisui-senpai.”

The next day, Yuto, Shisui, and Tsukimi gathered together.

This was the team’s first mission since being formed.

Tsukimi had changed out of her casual clothes and into full ninja gear.

Her forehead protector was tied neatly across her forehead, and her dark blue combat outfit outlined her graceful figure.

Kunai and shuriken were arranged neatly inside the ninja pouch at her waist, and she wore a flak jacket reserved for chunin and above.

Incidentally, Shisui was also wearing the same green flak jacket.

He was a jonin now, so naturally he qualified.

Among the three of them, only Yuto was a genin.

He could only wear his own clothes.

He was also the youngest of the three.

Tsukimi was one year older than him, while Shisui was one year older than Tsukimi.

That was why Tsukimi treated Shisui as her senior.

Shisui was the captain of the three-person team.

He opened the intelligence scroll he had received from the Police Force and said to the two of them,

“This mission is fairly dangerous.

The Torture and Interrogation Force extracted information from the mind of the spy Yuto killed earlier.

It revealed other spies hiding inside the village.”

“According to the intelligence, the spies have been active near Konoha’s commercial district for a long time, disguised as merchants.”

“There should be three to five spies.

Their strength ranges from chunin to jonin.”

Hearing that one of the spies might be a jonin, Yuto’s eyes lit up.

It looked like another chance to get himself killed had arrived.

If they were only chunin, he could still exchange a few blows with them.

But if he ran into a jonin, he would only be cut down instantly.

When the time came, he would charge in first and definitely get killed by the jonin spy in one slash.

Not only would he successfully collect the compensation money, he could at least make Shisui and Tsukimi shed a few tears too.

Added together, that would be two hundred million.

Shisui had not finished explaining the intelligence.

“Those spies will meet today in a valley outside the village to exchange the information they have gathered.”

“We move out immediately, reach the valley before the spies, and ambush them.”

“That is all.”

Hearing that the mission location was outside the village, Yuto’s mood became even better.

If it was inside the village, he would have to worry about the Anbu interfering.

But outside the village, at least during the first ten minutes of the fight, the Anbu would not have time to arrive.

Yuto could already imagine himself returning to his original world a day later with two hundred million in cash, a body full of supernatural abilities, and a life of obscene luxury waiting for him.

After confirming that both of his teammates understood the mission details, Shisui immediately led them toward the valley.

Halfway there, Shisui slowed slightly, falling half a step behind Tsukimi and coming to Yuto’s side.

“Yuto, when the time comes, make sure you stay safe.

Don’t risk your life like last time…”

Yuto said earnestly,

“Don’t worry.

I’ll definitely be careful.”

Of course, Yuto was only saying that.

Once the fight started, he would still put his life on the line.

Still, today was the last day he would spend with Shisui.

He did not mind answering seriously.

Besides, if Shisui heard that he was only brushing him off, Shisui would definitely pay extra attention to him during the battle.

Then Yuto’s death plan would not be able to proceed smoothly.

Before long, they arrived at the valley where the mission would take place.

It was a fair distance from Konoha.

Trees blocked the surroundings on every side, and almost no one came here.

Aside from a few small animals, there was not a single person in sight.

The corner of Yuto’s mouth curled up despite himself.

What an excellent place to die.

Although Yuto’s strength was a little pathetic, his fundamentals as a ninja were solid.

After all, he had gone on quite a few missions.

He quickly found himself a hiding place.

His position was the one closest to the valley.

Once the spies appeared, he would be the first to charge in.

After all, he had no idea which spy was the jonin.

If he was careless, got surrounded, and was hacked to death in the chaos, no one could say he had been scamming insurance.

On the other side, Tsukimi studied everyone’s hiding positions and frowned.

That guy Yuto.

Why was he hiding so close to the valley?

If he was discovered, he would definitely be in danger.

She had just been about to remind him to choose another hiding spot when the sound of footsteps suddenly came from outside the valley.

The spies had appeared.

Tsukimi had no choice but to hide herself again and pray Yuto would not be discovered.

As the footsteps drew closer, a burly man with dark skin appeared before the three of them.

The corner of Yuto’s mouth twitched slightly.

The man did not look like an ordinary person from the Land of Fire at all.

One glance and anyone could tell he was from Kumogakure.

How had he successfully infiltrated Konoha?

Had he been maintaining the Transformation Jutsu all day long?

Yuto did not want to think too deeply about it.

He was going to die soon anyway, so who cared where the man came from?

After the first spy appeared, footsteps sounded one after another around the outside of the valley.

Without exception, every spy had dark skin.

The man leading them looked imposing and extremely strong.

Perhaps he was the leader of the spies.

He was highly alert.

He ordered the other spies to keep quiet, then began carefully scouting the entire valley.

One of the spies said,

“Lord Oroi, there won’t be any Konoha ninja here.

We’ve met here who knows how many times already.”

Oroi’s expression remained serious.

He was an old spy with a great deal of experience.

He had stolen intelligence from other villages countless times, and he had lost countless companions too.

Some of them had been careless, just like this man.

“Shut up, Kakui.

It never hurts to be careful.”

“I am the only spy from my generation still alive.

Do you know why?

Because I am careful.

I would rather you not lose your lives because of carelessness.”

After being scolded by Oroi, Kakui put away his earlier careless attitude and obediently followed Oroi in scouting the entire valley.

As a veteran spy, Oroi’s counter-reconnaissance ability was excellent.

He soon noticed something unusual in the valley.

Something was wrong.

He realized the problem at once.

The valley was surrounded by trees, yet there were no birds singing at all.

Common sense said it was impossible for a forest to have no birds.

When his spies arrived at the valley, they had all been careful and had not alarmed the birds.

They had heard birdsong the entire way here.

So why had the birds gone silent once they reached the valley?

There was only one answer.

Someone had arrived before them.

Those people had scared the birds away, which was why he could no longer hear them.

“Ambush!

Retreat!”

Oroi shouted, and the Kumogakure spies immediately rushed toward the valley exit.

Seeing the spies run, Yuto grew anxious.

These spies were his walking two-hundred-million payout.

He absolutely could not watch them escape.

Yuto leaped out from his hiding place and formed hand seals at high speed.

Snake, Ram, Monkey, Boar, Horse, Tiger.

A fireball half as tall as a person surged from his mouth.

It was the Great Fireball Jutsu, and it was the only C-rank ninjutsu Yuto knew.

Aside from the Great Fireball Jutsu, Yuto had learned only the Three Basic Techniques and the Body Flicker Technique.

Added together, he knew only five jutsu.

Why had he not learned any other ninjutsu?

The reason was simple.

Yuto was afraid he would become too strong for other people to kill.
