The moment Qiyu finished speaking, an immense surge of spiritual energy poured in from every direction through the void.
Wave after wave flowed into his body like heavenly nectar, coursing through the twelve primary meridians before reaching the eight extraordinary meridians and finally converging within his dantian.
The mist that had originally filled his dantian was rapidly compressed.
The already-dense vapour condensed little by little into crystalline droplets, which gradually gathered into a pond.
As the seemingly endless spiritual energy continued pouring in, that pond expanded into a vast, azure sea.
Suddenly, a brilliant glow rose from within his dantian like the first rays of the morning sun.
It transformed into a five-coloured beam of light and shot directly into Qiyu’s sea of consciousness.
In that instant, Qiyu felt as though a violent explosion had erupted inside his mind.
His tense consciousness immediately entered a state of perfect clarity.
Countless profound maxims of the Great Dao appeared within his sea of consciousness out of nowhere.
At the same time, three petals—green, blue, and red—slowly unfolded behind his head, radiating an aura of the Great Dao that seemed entirely independent of this world.
While Qiyu remained immersed in the mysterious and unfathomable truths filling his mind, the blood within his body began rapidly gathering at the centre of his brow, driven by the circulation of spiritual energy.
A piercing agony suddenly tore him out of that indescribably wondrous state.
“Pain!”
At that moment, it was the only sensation Qiyu could comprehend.
It felt as though something was trying to split open his skull and force its way out through the centre of his forehead.
Qiyu clutched his brow with both hands.
His entire body spasmed uncontrollably as cold sweat streamed down his face and blood seeped continuously through the gaps between his fingers.
He gritted his teeth so hard that they nearly cracked.
The pain made him want to scream, but his powerful mental fortitude allowed him to retain his reason.
He understood that if he cried out now, his secret might be exposed.
It was not that he distrusted his mother or Itachi.
He simply had no idea how he could possibly explain everything that was happening to him.
He could hardly tell that gentle woman that he had come from another world.
Wracked by agony, Qiyu rolled back and forth across the bed.
He swore that if this bloodline mutation failed to satisfy him, then he would rather not have it at all!
Roughly half an hour later, the pain gradually subsided.
Qiyu lay limply across the bed as though he had just been pulled from a river, his entire body drenched in cold sweat.
Trembling, he forced himself upright and staggered towards the nearby mirror.
The face reflected within it was deathly pale.
A slightly curved, vertical scab of dried blood had formed across his forehead.
The scab slowly peeled away, revealing a thin, golden vertical mark resembling a birthmark at the centre of his brow.
Faint specks of golden light radiated from the mark, lending an air of mystery to Qiyu’s already handsome young face.
Qiyu carefully sensed the newly formed mark on his forehead.
A moment later, a vague stream of information entered his mind, and he instantly understood what it was.
It was a Daoist Dharma Eye.
According to legend, those who reached profound levels of cultivation could awaken the third eye hidden within the human brain.
However, the outward manifestations and abilities of this third eye differed from person to person.
Some could observe ghosts and deities.
Some could foresee the future.
Others possessed the power to suppress every demon and evil spirit beneath the heavens.
Qiyu’s Dharma Eye was called the Eye of Truth.
It could see through the fundamental nature of reality.
According to the information he had received, once cultivated to its highest level, it could gaze upwards through the Nine Heavens and downwards into the Ten Lands and the Nine Netherworlds.
It could pierce through time and space, comprehend the deepest truths of existence, and even trace the faintest vestiges of the Great Dao.
Of course, such abilities remained far beyond Qiyu’s current reach.
For now, the Eye of Truth possessed only four functions.
It could see through every illusion.
It could directly attack the spiritual origin of another person.
It could perceive the spatial layers of this world.
And by looking into the river of time, it could see three seconds into the future.
Even so, Qiyu felt that the half hour of unbearable agony had been entirely worthwhile.
Those four abilities might sound simple, but within the world he currently inhabited, each one was overwhelmingly powerful.
There was no need to explain how valuable three seconds of foresight would be in battle.
The ability to see through every genjutsu and directly attack another person’s spiritual origin alone gave him an unimaginably powerful hidden trump card.
As for perceiving the spatial layers of the world, its value was even greater.
It would provide immense assistance when he began studying spatial Dao arts in the future.
To perceive something meant that one could eventually touch it.
This ability had planted within him the seed required to comprehend the supreme divine powers of space and time.
Among the countless laws of the Dao, space and time were not things ordinary cultivators could simply learn through hard work.
One either possessed the aptitude for them or did not.
There was a reason people said that space reigned supreme while time ruled as emperor.
Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Qiyu slowly returned to the bed and began carefully examining his newly advanced cultivation.
The Three Flowers Convergence gradually unfolded behind his head.
At that moment, Qiyu sensed that an invisible connection had formed between himself and the world.
From now on, he would no longer need to worry about running out of spiritual energy.
Through the bridge established between himself and the world by the Three Flowers Convergence, he could continuously replenish his spiritual energy even in the middle of battle.
However, that bridge was still somewhat narrow.
In the future, he would need to widen it little by little until he attained the state of unity between Heaven and man—the realm known as Refining Spirit into Emptiness.
Once he fully entered that realm, Qiyu would no longer have to worry about his spiritual-energy recovery failing to keep pace with his expenditure.
At that point, the entire world would become his reservoir of spiritual energy.
At the same time, Qiyu discovered that he had awakened spiritual perception.
Even with his eyes closed, he could observe the world through it.
Unlike ordinary sight, spiritual perception covered every direction simultaneously and revealed everything in far greater clarity and detail.
Its range, however, was somewhat disappointing.
It covered only a radius of one thousand metres.
That was merely the range of its omnidirectional observation, though.
Were he to condense his spiritual perception into a single line, its reach would immediately extend far enough to cover halfway across Konoha.
Qiyu’s status panel had also undergone several changes.
