When they arrived at Jinshi Garden Residential Complex, Mo Fei got out of the truck and greeted the security guard at the entrance.

The Huolala driver drove the truck to the entrance of their building to unload the belongings first, while she took the two children to the security office to register their facial recognition for the access control system and collect their access cards.

As one of the upscale residential complexes in the southern part of the city, Jinshi Garden remained brightly lit even at eleven o’clock at night.Full novel: Natural Disasters Stockpiling: Starting with One Iron Wok — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The apartment Mo Fei had rented was in Block D, the area farthest from the main entrance. It had the fewest residents and was also the quietest.

The weather had returned to normal by nighttime, so the family walked from the entrance to their building, taking the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the neighborhood.

“What do you think of this place?” Mo Fei asked, wrapping one arm around each child.

“It’s so beautiful.” Mo Jiayue stared without blinking at the pond, pavilion, and all the flowers, plants, and trees throughout the complex.

Mo Jianian nodded as well. He wanted to ask Mo Fei whether the rent here was very expensive. But seeing the smiles on his mother’s and sister’s faces, he smiled too.

The two children had lived in a tiny forty square meter apartment since they were born. They had never seen such luxurious housing before. Every building had one apartment per floor with a private elevator that opened directly at the front door. Even the hallway decorations could be described as magnificent.

Mo Fei paid the movers a little extra to carry all the packed luggage up to the elevator outside the penthouse.

“Mom, I’ll carry this one.”

Each child hugged a small bag of luggage and dragged it inside.

While the two children entered the apartment, Mo Fei casually waved her hand and stored all the luggage in her space. After stepping inside herself, she waved her hand again and took everything back out.

The two children, who were just about to come back out to continue moving things: “…”

When had Mom become so strong? There had been so much luggage, yet it had all been moved into the apartment in the blink of an eye.

“Forget about the luggage for now. I’ll unpack it later. Come, let me show you your rooms.”

Although the apartment was advertised as having three bedrooms and two living rooms, it also had a storage room. After tidying it up, it could be used as a simple guest room or additional storage space.

Mo Fei took the master bedroom, while both Mo Jianian and Mo Jiayue each had their own room.

“Mom, I like this one.” Mo Jiayue immediately fell in love with the room that had a pink strawberry-patterned bedspread.

Meanwhile, Mo Jianian could not take his eyes off the computer in the other room.

They had started computer classes in first grade, but he had never owned a computer himself. As he looked at it, his eyes sparkled.

However, no one had lived in the apartment before, so there was no internet connection yet, and the computer could not go online. Mo Fei had already made an appointment for someone to install the internet the next day. If conditions allowed, she also planned to look for two secondhand tablets at the used goods market for the children.

After teaching the two of them how to use the bathroom and putting their clothes into the wardrobes first, Mo Fei urged them to take a shower and go to bed.

As the two bedroom doors closed, Mo Fei let out a sigh of relief and sat down on the sofa.

Since the apartment had originally been decorated as a future marital home, nearly all the furniture had been top quality. The moment Mo Fei sat down on the sofa, she felt so comfortable that she never wanted to get up again.

What pleased Mo Fei the most, however, was the kitchen.

Between the kitchen and the dining table was a kitchen island, and the kitchen itself was separated by sliding doors. The sliding doors were made with six panel high gloss lacquered boards. Their smooth, glossy finish reflected light well, brightening the entire kitchen. The space made full use of both the lower and upper cabinets, with numerous shelves holding various kitchen appliances and cookware. She was especially pleased to see the built-in steam oven combination unit, which happened to be the same brand she had always used before. The range hood had already been installed as well.

Mo Fei pressed the wok-shaped mark on her left hand. With a mere thought, an iron wok appeared out of thin air on top of the gas stove. While packing up the old apartment, she had originally planned to sneak the wok into her space when no one was paying attention, only to discover that the wok could only enter the space by pressing the mark on her left hand.

Mo Fei had a strong feeling that only by protecting this iron wok, and relying on it, could she ensure the survival of their family of three once the natural disasters arrived.

There was not actually that much luggage to unpack. Before starting, Mo Fei took out her phone and began ordering takeaway.

From Qin’s Lobster and Barbecue: ten servings each of garlic crayfish, spicy crayfish, and braised prawns. Note: Add extra konjac to the broth dishes.

Twenty servings of Qiaotou spare ribs, twenty servings of pickled vegetables from Haowei, twenty roast ducks from Zaomu Roast Duck, twenty cups each of milk tea, fruit tea, and coffee of various flavors, twenty portions each of braised duck necks, braised duck wings, and braised duck collarbones, durian mille crepe cakes, chocolate mille crepe cakes, Basque cheesecakes…

Mo Fei spent more than an hour doing nothing but ordering takeaway. During that time, many of the restaurants called her to ask whether she had placed the order by mistake and whether she really wanted such enormous quantities.

After receiving confirmation, the restaurants immediately stopped accepting online orders temporarily and focused on preparing Mo Fei’s order first.

One delivery after another arrived downstairs in Block D, piling up into quite a spectacular sight. Mo Fei did not ask them to deliver everything upstairs. Instead, she chose to collect it herself. One particularly outgoing delivery rider even asked whether she was throwing a party at home and whether she needed a designated driver.

After all the delivery workers had left and seeing that no one else was around, Mo Fei stepped into a surveillance blind spot and waved her hand, transferring all the food and drinks into the foam storage boxes she had already prepared inside her space.

“It’s already full?” Mo Fei frowned as she looked at the packed space.

The main reason was that the vegetables, fruit, meat, rice, and flour she had received earlier that day already occupied most of the available storage.

Yet the very next moment after she complained that the space was too small, a burst of white light flashed inside it.

At the same time, a voice sounded within the space.

“Upgrade conditions detected as complete. Beginning upgrade now. Estimated upgrade time: one minute.”

Mo Fei raised an eyebrow. Could the upgrade condition simply be filling the available storage space? It would only take one minute anyway, so she stood outside her apartment waiting to see what it would become.

When the minute was over, Mo Fei focused her attention on the space again and found that the once cramped storage area had completed its upgrade.

The voice continued.

“Space Level: Level 2.”

“Storage Capacity: 200 cubic meters.”

“Basic Functions: Permanent preservation and temperature retention.”

“New Function: Automatic item categorization by type. Additional storage shelves added.”

Within the once blank white space, the surrounding mist gradually separated and took the shape of shelving units, stretching from the floor all the way to the ceiling.

Everything that had previously been lying on the ground naturally sorted itself onto the shelves.

As a result, the space immediately became neat and organized. Every shelf extended all the way to the ceiling, making full use of every inch of available space. Every single item was automatically labeled with its name, storage time, and quantity.

“It’s pretty intelligent.” Mo Fei praised it.

Besides that, she could also create an invisible hand with her own consciousness and freely move any item inside the space to any location she wanted.

Mo Fei loved good food, but she exercised restraint. Even after ordering so much takeaway, she only ate a small portion of fried chicken, storing everything else inside the space. From then on, she planned to order different kinds of takeaway every day.

After finishing the fried chicken, Mo Fei used the opportunity to burn off some calories while unpacking all the luggage.

The once empty apartment now carried the warmth of everyday life with the arrival of Mo Fei and her family.

“Tomorrow I need to hire someone to replace the lock, install the internet, receive deliveries, keep placing orders for more supplies…” Mumbling to herself, Mo Fei drifted off to sleep on the bed.

Wrapped in the soft matcha green bedding, she slipped into a sweet dream.

In her dream, she was not an orphan. She had loving parents. They personally picked her up after school, took her to parks and museums on weekends, and bought her new clothes. Every birthday she celebrated came with a birthday present.

Yet even in the dream, she knew clearly that this was not the life she had lived. It belonged to the original Mo Fei.

For some reason, Mo Fei felt a trace of envy. Before she even had time to feel sad, the ringtone of her phone rang out.

It was already morning. The people calling were several of the market vendors. Not all of yesterday’s goods had been delivered, and several more shipments were arriving that day.

Mo Fei immediately got out of bed. After giving the children a few instructions, she hurried toward the rented storefront.

The suppliers delivering goods to Mo Fei all came in large trucks. Three large trucks arrived one after another, each with at least two movers.

The workers busily unloaded the goods while asking Mo Fei whether she was planning to open a supermarket, considering how much she had purchased all at once.

Mo Fei nodded. “There isn’t a supermarket around here yet, so I’ll open one.”

The workers believed her and joked that they had thought she was one of those people following the online apocalypse rumors and rushing to stockpile supplies. After unloading everything, they had Mo Fei sign for the delivery before saying they had to hurry back. The remaining goods would continue arriving the following day.

“We’ve had quite a few customers placing huge orders lately. We need to hurry and deliver the next one too,” the lead driver said.

Mo Fei thought to herself that quite a few people were apparently choosing the better safe than sorry approach. Faced with uncertain rumors about the apocalypse, they had decided to stockpile supplies just in case.

She imagined those people were generally well off already. When the natural disasters truly arrived, they would probably manage to live comfortably for quite some time on their stockpiles. But once the food passed its expiration date and spoiled, who could possibly escape the disasters then?

After they left, Mo Fei stored every single item into her space one by one.

By the time she returned home, it was already past eight in the morning. The sun had long since risen, and it was as hot outside as a giant steamer. She had rushed back in such a hurry that her entire body was covered in sweat.

The children were already awake. Mo Jianian was pouring milk beside the refrigerator.

“Mom, here.” After giving his sister a glass, Mo Jianian poured another one for Mo Fei.

“Why didn’t you turn on the air conditioner?” Mo Fei accepted the milk and casually pressed the power button.

The central air conditioning in the living room worked extremely well. Before long, cool air filled the entire apartment.

“I bought some breakfast. If you’re hungry, eat first. I’ll take a shower, then I’ll cook for you.”

Mo Fei handed them two bags of steamed soup dumplings and two cups of soy milk.

“Soup dumplings!” Mo Jiayue was a little foodie. The moment she saw the dumplings, her eyes lit up.

Mo Fei had originally planned to take a hot shower, but the moment the hot water touched her skin, she felt uncomfortable all over. In the end, she had no choice but to take a cold shower instead. As the cool water flowed over her body, the heat gradually faded away.

“Phew.” After changing into a clean set of loungewear, Mo Fei felt much better.

After her shower, Mo Fei had another idea. If she filled all 200 cubic meters of storage, would the space upgrade again? Before she had a chance to try, she received a call from Agent Xiao Luo.

Luo Yonghe said excitedly over the phone, “Miss Mo, you’re really lucky. As soon as your apartment was listed, three buyers became interested. I took them to view it using the key you gave me. One family wanted to negotiate ¥200,000 off, so I turned them down. Another was willing to pay ¥1.3 million, but they needed a mortgage.”

Mo Fei smiled. “What about the third one?”

“The third family clearly isn’t short on money. They only negotiated ¥50,000 off your ¥1.4 million asking price, and they can pay in full. They said they’re buying it so their child can attend the primary school here, and they don’t even plan on living in it. They’ve already paid a ¥50,000 earnest deposit. As long as you’re free tomorrow, we can sign the contract and prepare the documents for the ownership transfer.”

“Alright, let’s go with them.”

Mo Fei was genuinely delighted. She had not expected Luo Yonghe to work so efficiently.

This money was more than enough to solve her immediate financial difficulties.
