Six o’clock in the afternoon, at C City International Airport.
A flight arriving from Country G had just landed and the first person to step out from first class was a tall, long legged, strikingly handsome Alpha. His outfit was flamboyant; his shirt hung loose with three buttons undone, revealing a tempting stretch of tanned, honey colored chest.
Behind him followed a golden haired Beta. The Beta quickened his steps, slipped an arm around the Alpha’s and tilted his head up with a teasing, intimate smile. “Hey, Yuan, how about… tonight we…”
Xie Wangyuan let the Beta cling to him openly. After clearing customs, he saw a familiar silhouette waiting at the exit and tilted his head with a lazy grin. “Looks like… tonight won’t work after all.”
He headed straight toward several stern faced men in black. Tossing the bag he carried to the lead bodyguard, he drawled, “Uncle Wang, seriously? I just got off the plane. It’s not like I grew wings and flew back ahead of time.”
The steward, Butler Wang, ignored the Beta entirely, gave a slight bow and said respectfully, “Second Young Master, you haven’t returned in several years. Master is naturally concerned for your safety.”
Xie Wangyuan let out a small, amused scoff. He rotated his stiff neck a few times, then jerked his chin toward the Beta in a casual gesture. “Well, that’s convenient then. Arrange a car to send him off. After all, he’s someone I brought back from overseas.”
The Beta climbed into the car, waved his phone and winked flirtatiously at Xie Wangyuan. “Yuan, remember to contact me.”
Xie Wangyuan, who absolutely did not remember the Beta’s name, maintained a warm, seductive smile. He bent down, lowering his voice as he leaned in suggestively close. “Sure.”
Butler Wang looked away politely. Only after the car drove off did Xie Wangyuan drop the act and stride forward. “Let’s go.”
No one knew how long the drive took. Xie Wangyuan dozed in the back seat, half collapsed and lethargic, until he vaguely heard the driver calling, “Second Young Master, we’ve arrived.”
The ornate iron gates slowly opened. Bright lights illuminated the courtyard. With absolute certainty, Xie Wangyuan remarked flatly, “That Omega is here too.”
“Yes, Second Young Master,” Butler Wang replied. “Young Master Yu canceled all his work today to come back especially.”
At those words, Xie Wangyuan pulled out a short acting inhibitor from his pocket and injected himself twice on the arm without hesitation. Afterward, he applied a fresh blocker patch. Only when the car came to a complete stop did he finally get out at an unhurried pace.
Entering the living room, he didn’t spare a glance at the two people chatting pleasantly on the sofa. He simply intended to head straight upstairs to rest.
“Wangyuan, you haven’t come home in so many years and you’re not even going to greet your father first?” Behind him, Xie Tiancheng’s tone carried clear displeasure and authority. “We still have guests at home. Who taught you to be so ill mannered?”
“Guests?” Xie Wangyuan’s lips twisted into a faint, mocking smile. He turned around slowly. “I don’t think I see any.”
On the sofa sat a delicate Omega with a small, fair face. His clear, watery eyes met Xie Wangyuan’s gaze with shy nervousness and the faintly tightened lips revealed a touch of soft embarrassment.
Xie Tiancheng looked Xie Wangyuan up and down, his brows knitting together tightly. “Can you not wear your clothes properly?!”
Xie Wangyuan pulled out a cigarette pack, fished out a stick and lit it lazily between his teeth. “Sorry, Dad. After staying abroad for so long, I got used to it.”
Xie Tiancheng’s expression darkened further. “I heard… you came back with a Beta?”
“That’s right. I had a rather… ‘fulfilling’ arrangement for tonight.” Xie Wangyuan leaned over the fruit plate on the coffee table and tapped off his ash with a mischievous grin. “But since you missed me so much, Dad, I couldn’t exactly bring him in with me, could I? Guess he’ll have to wait for next time.”
He didn’t spare the Omega even half a glance. “I’m exhausted from the flight. I’ll head upstairs and leave you all to your chat.”
Xie Wangyuan went up the stairs. The Omega turned his head back, face pale, biting his lip anxiously. “Uncle Xie… Wangyuan, he…”
“Don’t mind him. He’s been spoiled since he was a child and Betas who can’t be marked are nothing but… temporary amusements,” Xie Tiancheng said in a softer voice to comfort him. “Your pheromone compatibility with him is so high. In the future, you’ll need to help me keep him in line.”
Yu Xile’s expression eased a little, though he still murmured shyly, “I don’t think I can control him…”
“With pheromones, why wouldn’t you be able to?” Xie Tiancheng chuckled kindly, taking Yu Xile’s hand as he guided him toward the dining room. “Enough talk. You must be hungry after waiting. The kitchen made all your favorite dishes tonight.”
On the far end of the second floor sat a room decorated in cool black and gray, minimalistic to the point it looked like a hotel suite at first glance.
Xie Wangyuan touched the top of the cabinet, glanced at the dust on his fingertips, then showered. Wrapped in a bathrobe, he leaned against the window to smoke.
There was only one cigarette left in the carton.
Down in the courtyard, three figures appeared. The smallest one got into a car and the other two followed the slowly moving vehicle to the gate before turning back.
Moments later, the bedroom door swung open. The heavy smell of smoke made Xie Tiancheng cough and take a step back, his face tightening in displeasure.
With no ashtray available, Xie Wangyuan tapped the ash into the water glass on the windowsill and said lazily, “Dad, even for room service, you’re supposed to knock first.”
Standing outside the door, Xie Tiancheng said coldly, “I’ll assume you’re tired from traveling today but the next time Xile visits, you are not allowed to behave like this again.”
“Come on, Dad. You know exactly what I’ve been like abroad these past years.” Xie Wangyuan didn’t even turn around. “I told you long ago, even if our compatibility was one hundred percent, I would never lay a finger on him.”
Xie Tiancheng’s gaze dropped to the bruises and faint needle marks on his son’s arm. “These past years, has your condition improved at all? Just a few days ago, your pheromones went out of control and you injured an Alpha. Besides Xile, who else can help you?”
“But it’s useless, Dad.” Xie Wangyuan flicked his burnt out cigarette into the glass, then glanced back with a wicked curl of his lips. “Not just him, no Omega works. Because when I’m facing an Omega… I can’t get hard at all.”
“Nonsense! What do you mean you ‘can’t get hard’?!” Xie Tiancheng’s face twitched with anger. “These years, Xile’s health hasn’t been good either. His heats have been frequent, he’s been relying on suppressants, all while waiting for you to come back!”
Xie Wangyuan let out a low, humorless laugh and lit his final cigarette.
Xie Tiancheng continued, “Your brother and I know you grew up without a mother. We always gave you everything you wanted, never restricted you, never stopped you from doing anything. You insisted on going abroad and we let you. Now that you’re home, you will receive proper treatment. Do you understand?”
Xie Wangyuan rubbed at his ear, the phone held slightly away from him and asked lazily, “Have you been drinking? Can you even drive right now?”
“No, I didn’t drink, wait!” The voice on the other end abruptly shot up several decibels. “Yuan ge, you’re back in the country?!”
The old villa district sat on the outskirts of the city. It backed against the mountains and faced a lake, making the scenery pleasant, even picturesque but the location was remote, too far, too inconvenient, difficult to reach without driving.
By the time Ren Yi sped all the way over, foot pressed firmly on the accelerator, he found Xie Wangyuan squatting beside the garbage bin at the entrance of the residential area, smoking.
His phone dangled loosely in one hand. The other hand rested on his knee, two fingers holding a half burned cigarette. Under the dim, yellow streetlight, the ember glowed a bright, flickering red.
Ren Yi honked twice. He leaned halfway out of the driver’s window and shouted at the top of his lungs, “Yuan ge! Get in!”
Xie Wangyuan had crouched too long; his legs were numb. He replied with a lazy grunt, baring his teeth as he stood up crookedly. He flicked the cigarette into the trash can and stretched his limbs.
He opened the car door, tossed his bag inside and whistled. “Nice car.”
“Heh, I mean… I’m just freeloading at the family company these days,” Ren Yi said sheepishly. The autumn night air was cool, but worried that a young, vigorous Alpha like Xie Wangyuan might feel hot, he still lowered the temperature inside the car. “Yuan ge, when did you even get back? You didn’t tell any of us.”
“Today.” Something occurred to him and Xie Wangyuan’s tone lifted with interest. “Oh, right. I ran into a Beta just now, inside the neighborhood. Drove a Maybach. Haven’t seen him before. Keep an eye out for me if you’ve got time.”
Ren Yi, who hadn’t even had the chance to catch up properly, looked torn between amusement and speechlessness. “Yuan ge… you literally just got back.”
Xie Wangyuan lowered the window, letting the cool air rush in. He laughed, unrestrained and wicked. “You don’t get it. He looked… seriously exciting.”
