At two thirty in the morning, Xie Wangyuan’s forehead throbbed relentlessly.
He hadn’t expected Ren Yi’s drinking capacity to still be this abstract. He’d only gone to the restroom for a moment and by the time he came back, Ren Yi had already finished the remaining half glass of wine and collapsed unconscious on the sofa.
Xie Wangyuan’s ears were still buzzing from Ren Yi’s hours long crying and howling and his head echoed with nonstop complaints about how Ren Ke was a heartless female demon.
Resigned to his fate, Xie Wangyuan rummaged through Ren Yi’s pockets, preparing to call the demoness herself. His fingers had barely brushed the edge of Ren Yi’s clothes when Ren Yi suddenly sat up, eyes unfocused. “Brother Yuan, don’t call my sister.”
“Fuck.” Xie Wangyuan covered his ill fated forehead and cursed under his breath. “Just got shut out by Qin Yu and now I’ve got to take care of a drunk at night.”
Ren Yi stared blankly. “Brother Yuan, I want to ride in your new car.”
“Don’t even think about it. You smashed my head and still want to ride my car?” Xie Wangyuan tossed Ren Yi’s coat over him, opened the door and called the club staff in to carry Ren Yi out.
Drunk Ren the Wishing Machine Yi refused to give up. “I think there’s no hope of Qin Yu riding in your car anyway, so why not let me.”
Xie Wangyuan pointed at him coldly. “Gag him. Carry him out. Hurry up and carry him out.”
Staff: “……”
Xie Wangyuan didn’t plan on letting anyone else drive his car. In the end, the club sent a car to take them back to Xie Wangyuan’s place.
Like lifting a chick, Xie Wangyuan hauled Ren Yi into his home, into the guest room and dumped him onto the bed.
He came back with a damp towel and tossed it to Ren Yi, then went to the living room to pour a glass of warm water. Returning, he took the towel back, shoved the water into Ren Yi’s hands and said, “Drink.”
Ren Yi might cry and scream like a banshee when drinking and drop like a sack of potatoes afterward but once drunk he was fairly well behaved, just a wishing, rambling machine who could still take care of himself and fall asleep.
After watching him finish the water, Xie Wangyuan refilled it and set it on the bedside table. He pulled a quilt out of the wardrobe and threw it over Ren Yi. “Alright. Sleep.”
Ren Yi lay on the bed, properly covered and called out to Xie Wangyuan, who was about to flip the wall switch. “Brother Yuan.”
“Mm.”
“Even though I know you probably didn’t want to come back to the country,” Ren Yi rolled over, eyes half open, “I still want to say it. Brother Yuan, welcome back.”
Xie Wangyuan’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He pressed the switch and closed the door.
After that little stunt from Ren Yi, Xie Wangyuan was wide awake. He dimmed the living room lights, rummaged through drawers until he found a one yuan lighter, collapsed onto the sofa and chain smoked half a pack.
By the time he came out of the shower, the sky outside had already begun to pale. The bedside drawer was wide open; more than half of the short acting inhibitors he’d brought back after returning to the country were already gone.
A small patch of skin at the back of his neck, long deprived of sunlight, looked especially pale. But because it was always covered by a blocking patch, it was already somewhat red and swollen.
Xie Wangyuan scratched at it a few times, closed the curtains, kicked the drawer shut with his foot, sprawled sideways onto the bed and dragged a pillow over his head.
Xie Wangyuan was lured awake by the smell of food. He grabbed his phone and glanced at the time, three in the afternoon.
“Brother Yuan, you’re up?” Ren Yi was busy opening takeout boxes, not even looking up. “Perfect timing. The food just arrived.”
Xie Wangyuan’s throat was dry. He answered with a hoarse “Mm,” ran a hand through his hair and went into the bathroom to wash up.
Ren Yi had been starving for ages. Shoveling food into his mouth, he asked, “You left your car at the club last night?”
“Yeah. I’ll go get it first.” Xie Wangyuan dried his hair and tossed the half damp towel onto the balcony. “Where are you going?”
“I really want to go with you to see Qin Yu” Ren Yi said miserably, “but my sister just called to yell at me and told me to get my ass to the company.”
Springwater Creek Breeze. It was Ren Yi’s first time seeing Xie Wangyuan’s car.
“Brother Yuan, this thing looks even more abstract in real life than in pictures…” Ren Yi’s index finger trembled as he pointed at the stick figure drawing on the passenger door. “Who the hell could tell what Qin Yu actually looks like from this?”
“You can’t tell? It’s obvious.” Xie Wangyuan clicked his tongue and pointed at the black dot under the beady eyes. “There. Such a big mole.”
The once drunk Ren Yi, who’d still been drooling over riding the new car last night, finally gave up after seeing it in person. Without mercy, he said, “Brother Yuan, I think unless you knock Qin Yu out, he’ll die before ever sitting in this thing.”
Xie Wangyuan was puzzled. “Didn’t you want to ride it last night?”
“Nope. Last night’s me was still too young. Today’s me has grown.” Ren Yi waved his hands in refusal. “Your loving charity ride, save it for Qin Yu alone to enjoy.”
He bent over and made a grand “please” gesture. “Second Young Master Xie, Brother Yuan, Young Master Yuan, please get in the car. I’ll stand here and watch you leave.”
Xie Wangyuan reached out and tapped that little black dot, rubbing it twice. “I think it’s pretty spot on.”
The wind picked up. Turning his back to it, Xie Wangyuan cupped his hands to shield the flame and lit a cigarette, then tossed the lighter to Ren Yi. “It’s yours.”
“What kind of antique lighter is this?” Ren Yi caught it, full of disdain. “Holy shit! Aren’t these the ones you bought wholesale back in high school?!”
At the Qin Corporation building, Xie Wangyuan had barely driven up when he was stopped by the security guard at the entrance. “Sir, your car can’t be parked downstairs.”
Xie Wangyuan leaned his head out of the window, glanced at the surrounding cars and asked quite politely, “Is it that no one can park here or just that my car can’t?”
The guard’s gaze shifted awkwardly. “It’s… a notice just issued by the company.”
Xie Wangyuan took in the guard’s microexpression and nodded. “Got it. My car’s on your blacklist.”
The guard mumbled and shut his mouth, gripping the walkie talkie in his hand, ready to call for backup if Second Young Master Xie exploded in anger.
The expected scene never came. The Alpha in the flamboyant sports car remained polite as he asked, “Where’s the underground parking? I can park there, right?”
The guard froze for a moment, then raised his hand and pointed. “D.. Down there.”
Xie Wangyuan nodded, flicked a cigarette out of the pack and tossed it to the guard. “Thanks, man.”
The guard stood there blankly, watching the eye searing pink sports car drive away.
The higher ups had only said this car wasn’t allowed to park at the entrance. Parking in the garage… shouldn’t count as parking at the entrance, right?
Blacklisted individual Xie Wangyuan made a loop through the underground parking lot, parked near the elevators, picked up the black paper bag from the passenger seat and took the elevator up to the lobby.
The front desk’s repeated glances were impossible to ignore. Xie Wangyuan raised an eyebrow and asked, “What, did the front desk blacklist me too?”
Front desk: “…Our company doesn’t have such an operation.”
Xie Wangyuan laughed softly and asked again, “Come on, what did Qin Yu say?”
The receptionist glanced at Xie Wangyuan’s expression and replied stiffly, as if reciting a script. “President Qin asked us to pass along a message to Mr. Xie. Qin Corporation does not welcome you…”
“And what if I insist on coming anyway?” Xie Wangyuan was still smiling. “Is he planning to have security throw me out of here?”
The receptionist braced herself and said, “Th… That’s not the case.”
Xie Wangyuan raised his hand and tapped his watch. “Your President Qin should be getting off work soon, right?”
The receptionist looked troubled. “We’re not aware of President Qin’s off work schedule.”
Xie Wangyuan didn’t make things difficult for a mere front desk clerk. He turned and sat down on a nearby sofa, placed the paper bag on his right leg, propped one foot lightly on the floor and looked as relaxed as if he were lounging in his own living room.
He Rui had just received a call from the front desk. Before he could even hang up, he saw Qin Yu pass by the entrance. He hurriedly ended the call and chased after him. “President Qin, the front desk said… that person is here again.”
Qin Yu stepped into the elevator, his expression calm. “Mm.”
He Rui hesitated. “We’re going to the rehabilitation center later. If that Second Young Master Xie follows us.. ”
Qin Yu reached out and pressed the “1” button, saying only, “It’s fine.”
The elevator quickly arrived at the first floor. Qin Yu stepped out and at a glance, he saw the Alpha sitting on the sofa to one side of the lobby, his presence impossible to ignore.
Xie Wangyuan lifted his gaze, eyes following Qin Yu the entire time. Only when Qin Yu was about to walk out the doors did he stand up and follow. “Another appointment tonight? When will you finally grace me with your presence and go out with me? Qin Yu, if you don’t mind the annoyance, I can squat here every day waiting for you.”
Qin Yu rubbed his brow. “Second Young Master Xie, I thought I’d already made my meaning very clear.”
“You mean the security downstairs and the front desk?” Xie Wangyuan pointed toward the entrance. “Qin Yu, even if you plaster a big notice up there tomorrow saying ‘Xie Wangyuan and dogs are not allowed inside,’ I’ll still shamelessly walk right in. Believe it or not?”
