Xie Wangyuan bit down on his cigarette and strode over in a few quick steps. Before the waiter outside the door could even react or try to stop him, he pushed the private room door open directly.
Ren Yi stood where he was for a moment, watching and muttered under his breath, “With this kind of momentum, isn’t he basically going to catch someone in the act? No one would believe it if you told them…”
The private room was warmly and tastefully decorated. On the side near the door was a small dining table arranged in a romantic style. In the middle stood a vintage hollow-carved wooden screen, separating the space. Behind it was a small tea room, wisps of tea fragrance drifting gently through the air.
Xie Wangyuan closed the door behind him with one hand, walked around the screen and saw Qin Yu sitting directly opposite it. With his back to Xie Wangyuan sat a young Omega woman, while the restaurant manager stood nervously to the side, rubbing his hands together.
When he saw Xie Wangyuan, the manager froze. “Sir, you!”
Xie Wangyuan walked over with an unfriendly expression, lifted his long leg and sat down beside Qin Yu.
The manager was perceptive. Seeing that Qin Yu’s expression remained unchanged, he said softly, “President Qin, there are still people waiting outside.”
Qin Yu’s fingers moved slightly. The manager quietly took several steps back, left the private room, gently closed the door behind him and after whispering a few instructions to the waiter outside, went downstairs.
The Omega’s eyes lit up. She shyly shifted her gaze away from Xie Wangyuan, then turned back to Qin Yu. “Mr. Qin, is this your friend? Aren’t you going to introduce him?”
Xie Wangyuan lazily curled his lips into a smile, propped one leg up, rested his arm across his knee, lowered his head to light his cigarette, then lifted his eyes to look at Qin Yu. With pointed intent, he repeated, “Yeah, Qin, Mr. Qin. Aren’t you going to introduce me?”
Qin Yu nodded calmly and said, “This is Xie Wangyuan, Second Young Master of the Xie family and this is Miss Cheng from the Cheng family…”
“Miss Cheng.” Xie Wangyuan rummaged around in his pants pocket for a while, pulled out a pheromone-blocking patch and tossed it across the table. With a flippant tone, he said, “I could smell Miss Cheng’s pheromones from far away. Not to put too fine a point on it but even if Qin Yu is a Beta, you’re being a bit too careless. Originally, she hadn’t thought much of Qin Yu. So what if he was outstanding? He was still just a Beta, he couldn’t mark her anyway but her parents had persuaded her for a long time, saying that with the Cheng family’s support, Qin Group would sooner or later belong entirely to Qin Yu. Besides, it was just a business marriage; after marriage, she could still do whatever she wanted.
After meeting Qin Yu, she was generally satisfied. Although he was a bit cold, that suited her just fine. As long as things looked acceptable on the surface, that was enough.
She had heard of Xie Wangyuan before. Today, however, Xie Wangyuan was dressed unlike his usual self. His hair hadn’t been styled and he looked clean and fresh, like a college student. She immediately felt that this Alpha was her type. She had only just recognized him moments ago.

She couldn’t stay any longer. Grabbing her handbag, she stood up, her eyes red and angrily scolded, “Qin Yu… I really never imagined you could be this despicable! I’ll tell my parents about this.”
She then glared at Xie Wangyuan with reddened eyes. So furious she had to steady herself several times, she finally squeezed out, “Dirty! Disgusting! Shameless! Absolutely vile!” After shouting, she turned around, left the private room and slammed the door shut with force.
Xie Wangyuan took a deep breath, stood up, kicked the screen aside, hooked a nearby chair over with the top of his foot and sat down facing backward, his hands resting on the back of the chair. He lit another cigarette and offered an entirely half-hearted apology. “Wow, I’m really sorry. Looks like I ruined your blind date.”
Qin Yu poured himself another cup of tea and replied slowly, “It’s fine.”
Xie Wangyuan paused, studying Qin Yu for quite a while. Under the warm lighting, Qin Yu’s facial features looked unusually soft. Suddenly, Xie Wangyuan spoke. “That Omega just now was obviously not the obedient type. Were you planning to bring someone like that home just to suffer for no reason? Or is life getting too boring and you feel like wearing a bit of green on your head?”
“Tsk, this is really thanks to me being so well-traveled and experienced.” Xie Wangyuan began shamelessly praising himself. “Qin Yu, I did you such a huge favor. Don’t you think you should repay me properly?”
Qin Yu’s hand, holding the small teacup, paused at his lips. He lowered his gaze, concealing the emotions in his eyes. After taking a light sip, he set the cup down and suddenly curved his lips into a smile. “Second Young Master Xie… how exactly do you want me to ‘repay’ you?”
Xie Wangyuan narrowed his eyes slightly, not understanding which part of his careless remark had struck Qin Yu. He stared at him for a few seconds, then answered vaguely, “Let’s put it on credit for now.”
Qin Yu inclined his head. “The table Mr. Ren is at, put it on my account.”
Xie Wangyuan made a half-hearted gesture with his hands, then finally rubbed the back of his neck and kicked the chair aside. “Alright, then I won’t stand on ceremony with you.”
After leaving the private room, Xie Wangyuan rushed into the restroom on the second floor. After a quick glance to make sure no one was inside, he locked the door, took an inhibitor injection from his pocket and administered it. Only after a short while did he mutter a low curse. “Fuck.”
Earlier in the afternoon, before Ren Yi called him out, Xie Wangyuan had forgotten to inject himself. That Omega’s pheromones hadn’t been very stable either, she was probably genuinely furious and had leaked a little before leaving.
The pain at the back of his neck wasn’t intense but Xie Wangyuan didn’t dare stay in the private room any longer. His hands were still trembling slightly. Bracing himself against the sink, his thoughts drifted uncontrollably to the scent on Qin Yu’s body.

With shaking fingers, Xie Wangyuan typed a few words in reply, unlocked the door and before long Ren Yi slipped in sideways. “Brother Yuan, are you okay?!”
“I’m fine.” Xie Wangyuan rolled his neck. “Let’s go. We’ll eat another time.”
“Let’s head out together then. That Beta you brought is really clingy… You disappeared for just a bit and he started asking all kinds of questions. I couldn’t sit there anymore.” Ren Yi sent a message to his friend. “Go eat somewhere else?”
Xie Wangyuan checked the time and licked his lips. “Alright. I’ll treat you to small wontons.”
The two of them left through the restaurant’s back door. Xie Wangyuan couldn’t remember the exact location of the wonton stall and after directing Ren Yi through countless twists and turns, they finally found it after wasting quite some time.
At the stall, two students in school uniforms were already seated, eating wontons. The vendor still remembered Xie Wangyuan. He rummaged through the pile of items behind him, pulled out a small folding table, set it up and carried over two small stools. “Brought a friend along?”
Xie Wangyuan nodded. “Two large bowls.”
“This is really great, where did you even find a place like this?” Ren Yi looked around excitedly, returned with two bottles of soda and said nostalgically, “Isn’t this just like those street stalls we used to eat at?”
Xie Wangyuan watched the flames flickering in the stove and the small pot boiling over, then tipped his head back and downed half a bottle of soda.
From far away, the scent of smoke and food drifted through the air.
Qin Yu remained in the same posture as when Xie Wangyuan had left. After a long while, he reached out and picked up the forgotten blocking patch on the tea table. His palm tightened around it and a silent sigh at the corner of his lips dissipated along with the faint aroma of tea.
“Xie Wangyuan.”
