Shen Zui sat rigidly on the sofa. As a celebrity, he often interacted with female makeup artists and assistants, but this particular feeling seemed entirely new to him.
Fortunately, there wasn’t too much sushi. By the time the two finished eating, it was almost eleven o’clock. Shen Zui went to take a shower, while Jiang Wanting climbed into bed and browsed Weibo under the covers.
A glance at Weibo startled Jiang Wanting—she had actually made it to the trending list. After reading the statement Shen Zui posted, her heart melted into a puddle of tenderness.
Shen Zui took a quick shower. When he came out, he saw the girl already in bed. He took out the hairdryer to dry his hair, then glanced toward the bed.
“Is your hair dry?”
Jiang Wanting stammered, “N-not yet.”
“Come here.”
Come here? Jiang Wanting couldn’t figure out what the man was thinking. She got out of bed, slipped on her slippers, and walked over. Was he going to help her dry her hair? Could such a good thing really happen?
Shen Zui handed her the hairdryer, then strode with his long legs toward the bed. “Dry it before you sleep.”
Jiang Wanting: “…”
She took the hairdryer from his hand. Well, she had overthought it. Such a good thing wasn’t happening—she had actually thought he would help her dry it.
Jiang Wanting’s hair wasn’t very long, but it was quite thick. Drying it would take at least fifteen minutes.
After drying her hair, Jiang Wanting went to the bathroom. When she came out, she didn’t forget to turn off the lights, leaving only a dim yellow nightlight in the dark room.
Jiang Wanting closed her eyes and emptied her mind for over ten minutes, then suddenly opened them and sighed softly. Being unable to sleep in an unfamiliar bed was truly an illness that needed curing.
“You can’t sleep in an unfamiliar bed, yet you dared to come find me?” Shen Zui heard the girl’s sigh and knew she couldn’t fall asleep.
“Sleep a few more times, and you’ll get used to it.” Jiang Wanting once again said something astonishing.
Shen Zui: “…”
He chuckled softly, as if amused by her.
“What are you laughing at?” Jiang Wanting felt somewhat helpless and looked at him in confusion.
“Rumors say the Jiang family’s young lady is spoiled, domineering, self-righteous, and delicate.”
“You know those are just rumors. Some rumors are just rumors. You can’t judge a person solely based on them; you need to understand them deeply.” Jiang Wanting clenched her hands anxiously, explaining, “That’s not me.”
“Hmm, you’re right.” Shen Zui suddenly turned over, looking at her in the dim light. “How do you understand someone deeply?”
Jiang Wanting felt as if she could hear her own pounding heartbeat. “Of course, by getting to know them slowly!”
Shen Zui suddenly reached out, his thumb gently stroking the girl’s smooth, porcelain-like cheek.
“Wh-what are you doing?” Jiang Wanting held her breath, staying completely still as he worked his mischief on her face.
“Nothing. Go to sleep.” Shen Zui withdrew his hand, unconsciously rubbing his fingertips. The delicate sensation still lingered.
Jiang Wanting: “…”
How could there be someone like this! Teasing someone and then running away without taking responsibility. Jiang Wanting pouted.
Early the next morning, Shen Zui’s biological clock was as punctual as ever. A slender leg was draped over his waist, and he helplessly moved it aside. He had already experienced Jiang Wanting’s sleeping habits back at the Shen family.
Just as Shen Zui was about to leave, Jiang Wanting seemed to be speaking telepathically. “Can I stay here all day today?”
Seeing that the girl hadn’t even opened her eyes, her voice lazy and soft, Shen Zui inexplicably felt like laughing.
“As you wish, as long as you don’t mind being bored.”
“Okay, be careful while filming.” After saying this, Jiang Wanting fell into a deep sleep. She hadn’t fallen asleep until almost two o’clock the previous night.
Shen Zui’s hand, holding his mask, paused. Aside from family, few people ever showed concern for him.
Jiang Wanting slept until eleven o’clock, then got up, washed up, and ordered room service.
Shen Zui finished filming around four in the afternoon. The snow had delayed the outdoor scenes, and the night scenes had already been shot a month earlier.
When he returned to the hotel, Jiang Wanting was lying on the sofa watching a Korean drama.
Hearing the door close, Jiang Wanting frowned slightly. What was going on? She turned around and saw Shen Zui wearing a black down jacket.
For a moment, Jiang Wanting didn’t react, staring blankly at him. After a while, she said, “Why are you back so early today?”
“The snow caused delays.”
“Snow? It’s snowing?” Jiang Wanting quickly put on her shoes and ran to the balcony.
Shen Zui: “…”
Her excitement made it seem as if she hadn’t seen snow in eight hundred years.
“It really is snowing! It’s so beautiful. We should be able to build a snowman tomorrow, right?” Jiang Wanting reached out to catch the snowflakes, but they melted within seconds, leaving her palms icy cold.
This was the first time she had ever seen snow in her life. Having lived in the south without heating before, she had survived winters purely on willpower. Here, she finally got to experience what heating was like.
Shen Zui stepped out onto the balcony with his long legs, his voice calm. “Be careful not to catch a cold.”
“I won’t. I have a strong constitution.” Jiang Wanting didn’t turn around, continuing to reach for the snowflakes. “We can build a snowman tomorrow.”
The girl’s eyes were bright, as pure as clear lake water, with long, curled lashes. Her excitement was barely contained.
Shen Zui’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, his voice low and husky. “Let’s eat.”
Jiang Wanting was a bit reluctant to leave. Her fair, slender fingers were red from the cold. She rubbed her hands together and followed Shen Zui inside.
Shen Zui had ordered room service—a simple meal of four dishes and a soup. Fortunately, Jiang Wanting wasn’t picky. From her observations, Shen Zui seemed to prefer lighter meals.
Jiang Wanting suddenly spoke up, “Does your film crew provide meals? What do you usually eat?”
Shen Zui was slightly taken aback. Was she trying to get closer to him?
Jiang Wanting noticed his reaction and looked apologetic. “Did I ask too much?”
Shen Zui’s expression remained indifferent. “No.”
“It’s just that I have a friend who really likes acting, and I wanted to ask for her.” Jiang Wan blinked her dark, bright almond-shaped eyes, casually fabricating a friend.
“The crew provides meals, but the quality depends on the production company. You can also bring or buy your own food.”
Jiang Wanting: “??”
Is that how it works?
“Wouldn’t that mean lower-tier actors eat poorly?”
Shen Zui: “??”
Jiang Wanting picked up a piece of shrimp paste. “If the production is low-budget, their meals must be much worse, right?”
Shen Zui was silent for two seconds. Her train of thought was truly unusual, always coming up with the strangest ideas.
“How much do extras usually make in a day?”
Shen Zui paused again for two seconds. “It depends on the production company.”
Jiang Wanting placed a piece of spare ribs into Shen Zui’s bowl. “This is delicious. You should eat more.”
Shen Zui stiffened slightly. “Thank you.”
“How does it feel to be on a wire? Is it uncomfortable, or do you find it thrilling?”
Shen Zui lowered his gaze. The first time he was on a wire was as an extra, doing several flips in a row. When he came down, he almost threw up.
Shen Zui’s voice was faint. “It depends on the person. Some people get dizzy, nauseous, or scared, while others find it exciting.”
Jiang Wanting looked at him with wide, watery eyes. “How did it feel for you? Was it uncomfortable?”
Shen Zui ate the spare ribs she had given him. “It was okay.”
Jiang Wanting didn’t ask anything further. Shen Zui had a rather aloof temperament—it was practically a case of her asking one question and him giving one answer. If he weren’t her white moonlight, she wouldn’t have bothered with him at all.
If she didn’t speak, he wouldn’t speak either. Well, that suited her just fine! She was a chatterbox, and she and Shen Zui were truly a perfect match!
Jiang Wanting couldn’t help but secretly rejoice.
