The next day, Xia Weige woke up early. As the one who had issued the invitation, the arrangements for their first date were only known to her and the production crew; everything had to be led by her.

The agreed-upon departure time with Wen Rong was exactly nine o’clock, and Wen Rong appeared a little earlier after getting ready.

She had changed into a qipao again, a pearl white qipao with large sleeves. The frog buttons at the collar were uniquely woven into vine leaves, with tiny scattered beads forming winding lines, resembling vines coiling around her body.Full novel: Not Getting Back Together Really Makes It Hard to End Things Well — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She had swept her long hair to one side, letting stray strands casually drape over her shoulder. It was languid and unconstrained, yet it gave her a unique charm.

Xia Weige couldn’t help but lose herself in Wen Rong’s gentle eyes, only snapping back to reality when Wen Rong walked closer.

The two got into the car together, with Xia Weige driving, starting their two-day, one-night date.

It would take a while to reach their destination, so Xia Weige turned on the car music. She actually wanted to talk to Wen Rong, but she didn’t know what to say.

The two were awkward for a long time until Wen Rong broke the silence.

“Have you eaten anything this morning?” This seemed like a rather dull question, even the audience in the live broadcast room couldn’t help but complain.

However, for Xia Weige, having a topic to talk about was a good thing.

And Wen Rong didn’t open her mouth out of boredom.

“I was busy packing and really didn’t have time to eat,” Xia Weige had stomach problems, and not eating breakfast would make her feel a bit unwell, but with Wen Rong sitting beside her today, she could forget her physical discomfort.

Wen Rong seemed to have expected this. She didn’t say anything, but just took out a cup of hot water and a bag of bread from her luggage.

“Let me drive,” she set out the food and said to Xia Weige.

Xia Weige paused, glanced at Wen Rong, and then smiled simply, saying, “Sister, feed me.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Rong slightly lowered her eyes, remained silent for a long time, and then let out a seemingly intentional, soft chuckle, “Okay.”

She said this without waiting for Xia Weige’s reply. She took a tissue, wiped her hands clean, tore off a piece of bread, and held it out to Xia Weige’s mouth.

The scent of the bread lingered around Xia Weige’s nose. She looked down slightly, then parted her lips and gently bit down. As her lips closed, she inevitably brushed against Wen Rong’s finger.

The soft fingertip still had bread crumbs on it, meeting her tender lips. It was hard to say which was softer.

Xia Weige ate the bread. Wen Rong tore off the second piece without changing her expression and presented it to the former’s lips again.

Xia Weige repeated the action and bit down, but this time she was being playful. Her lips and teeth moved slightly further forward, actually biting onto Wen Rong’s fingertip.

She held the bite without immediately letting go, and her lips boldly held Wen Rong’s fingertip gently. Her tongue wrapped the bread into her mouth, and her tongue tip also softly brushed past the side of that finger.

The warm, wet sensation made Wen Rong stiffen. After several seconds, she calmly pulled her finger away as if nothing had happened.

But Xia Weige even licked her lips, a joyful sound coming from her throat, “Delicious.”

Was the bread delicious, or something else?

Wen Rong gripped the bread packaging tightly, closed her eyes, and let out a soft breath, then also chuckled softly.

She focused her gaze on Xia Weige, looking at the corner of the other’s smiling eye, slowly leaning closer, pulling out a tissue, and meticulously wiping Xia Weige’s lips.

Gently wiping with the tissue, the pressure of her finger caused Xia Weige’s lips to deform.

She finished wiping but didn’t rush to leave, wiping repeatedly over and over again through the tissue.

This time, Xia Weige’s heart skipped a beat. She instinctively turned her head but was immediately stopped by Wen Rong.

“Focus on driving.”

Xia Weige bit her lip, not daring to argue.

The car drove on like this, and the two finally reached their destination close to noon.

The dating spot Xia Weige chose was a commercial campsite in the mountains on the outskirts of the city. The road up the mountain was densely covered with trees, planted with autumn maple trees.

Orange-yellow maple forests filled both sides of the road, the branches and leaves appearing meticulously trimmed, looking very neat.

This campsite was on the mountaintop. The car drove all the way up, and upon arrival, a chill could be felt.

It was already autumn, and Xia Weige hadn’t noticed it down the mountain, but when she got out of the car, the cold wind made her shiver.

She had already made a reservation, and the reception staff led them to the camping area.

Tents and tools were provided by the campsite, but the tent still needed to be set up by themselves.

Xia Weige had done her research beforehand and wasn’t worried about setting up the tent, but she looked up at the sky, feeling a bit concerned.

The weather wasn’t very good today. She hadn’t noticed it down the mountain, but looking up now, even though it was the middle of the day, dark clouds were subtly pressing down overhead; it was likely to rain.

She frowned, feeling somewhat troubled. If it rained, the camping plan would have to be canceled.

“Looking at the sky, it might rain later. Our tents are waterproof, and we can also provide a fire pit. If you want to cook, the tools are plenty, but if it rains tonight, the temperature on the mountaintop will be very low. Do you want to reconsider?” The receptionist also understood the situation and quickly asked for their opinion.

Xia Weige was already hesitant, but Wen Rong seemed to be in good spirits.

“How low will the temperature get?” She had never tried camping before and had been looking forward to it since hearing about Xia Weige’s plan.

“It’s fine if you light a fire. Many people even come here to camp in the winter.”

Having received the answer, Wen Rong gently turned her head to look at Xia Weige, awaiting her decision. Xia Weige thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement.

The receptionist helped them load the tent and accompanying tools onto a cart and took them to the campsite.

The camping location was on a large, flat platform near a cliff. The ground was paved with small pebbles, and there was a waist-high iron railing along the cliff edge.

There was no other cover around; trees and buildings were all below their feet.

Standing there, Xia Weige looked up and truly felt that the sky was closer than she had ever seen it.

The two began to set up the tent and organize the items they brought.

The tent was not small, large enough to fit two air mattresses, the grill, and cooking utensils.

The campsite also provided a few sets of folding tables and chairs and some small decorative items.

“Sister, please put away the things in the car. We still need to go buy some food later. I can handle the tent by myself,” Xia Weige said to Wen Rong.

Wen Rong didn’t know how to do it, and since Xia Weige said so, she wouldn’t doubt it.

She nodded but first handed Xia Weige a bottle of water and watched her, “Take your time, don’t rush.”

Xia Weige blinked, smiling as she nodded.

Wen Rong smiled back and then turned to organize the items.

As she walked, she looked up at the sky. The gloomy weather didn’t bother her.

This extreme sense of relaxation was something she hadn’t possessed in these past seven years.

Xia Weige had indeed done her homework and set up the tent faster than Wen Rong had imagined.

Xia Weige walked over to Wen Rong and helped her organize things again. Earlier, she had rolled up her sleeves to make it easier to work, exposing her fair arms.

But Wen Rong casually glanced at it and suddenly noticed a cut on her arm.

Wen Rong immediately stopped, grabbing Xia Weige’s arm. Sure enough, there was a long streak of blood on her outer right arm.

“How did this happen?” Wen Rong’s expression slightly dimmed.

Xia Weige didn’t even know herself. She lifted her arm and looked at it for a long time, then wondered aloud, “Maybe when I was setting up the tent… I didn’t even feel any pain.”

Wen Rong ignored what she said, reaching out a finger and pressing it onto the blood streak on Xia Weige’s arm.

“Hiss—” Xia Weige finally felt the pain this time.

Wen Rong lowered her eyes, softly saying, “When we go buy ingredients later, we need to stop by the pharmacy for some medicine.”

Xia Weige withdrew her hand in slight protest and pulled down her sleeve.

The campsite had ingredients and medicine available. They were just over a kilometer away from their location. It was only a ten-minute walk, so thinking it wasn’t worth the trouble of driving, they decided to walk.

The scenery along the road was also very beautiful. Although the sun was not visible at the moment, and the sky was slightly overcast, for people trapped in the city, just the open view and the seemingly free environment were enough to make it beautiful.

The two treated it as a walk.

However, on the way back, the clouds in the sky drew even closer, and the gloomy sky made the surroundings dark.

Autumn rain usually has warning signs. Even though Xia Weige and Wen Rong consciously quickened their pace, they were still unlucky enough to get soaked by the heavy rain.

The rain soaked their clothes. After rushing back to the tent, Xia Weige saw Wen Rong’s light clothing and immediately ran to the fire pit to start a fire.

Wen Rong called out, telling her to change her clothes first, but Xia Weige acted as if she hadn’t heard, squatting in front of the fire pit and refusing to move.

She was cold. Waves of chill invaded her body. She had just recovered from an illness, and after being blown by the cold wind on the mountaintop, and now being completely drenched, she inevitably felt uncomfortable.

But she didn’t want Wen Rong to be cold even more, and she felt annoyed at her own arrangements.

She squatted in front of the fire pit, staring at the slowly burning flames. The weak flames were still not enough to provide her with physical warmth.

She was completely unaware of the figure approaching behind her.

It wasn’t until Wen Rong placed a hand on her shoulder that Xia Weige turned her head.

“Go change your clothes. Don’t wear wet clothes. I’ll take care of this.” Wen Rong’s tone was gentle. Water droplets slid down her hair. Her delicate features were covered in moisture, which gave her a sense of aloofness.

Xia Weige had never felt that Wen Rong’s looks were cold. This person always carried an accepting smile, and her features were so gentle that Xia Weige once had the illusion of looking at a gentle young lady from ancient times.

The current sense of aloofness was probably because she wasn’t smiling.

She pursed her lips, her eyes slightly lowered, without a smile, but not enough to make people feel she was being fierce.

It just made Xia Weige freeze for a moment.

“Are you angry?” Xia Weige looked at her, and this thought suddenly popped into her mind.

Wen Rong raised her eyes, met Xia Weige’s gaze, and didn’t speak for a while.

Then, seeing that Xia Weige hadn’t moved, she finally sighed and answered her very gently, “I am angry.”

This surprised Xia Weige.

Angry about what? Because she didn’t change her clothes first?

But she felt that it must be more than just that.

However, Xia Weige didn’t press for an answer. She looked at Wen Rong’s vulnerable eyes and listened to Wen Rong’s helpless sigh. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

She also tightly pursed her lips. All the restlessness in her body disappeared at that moment. She hesitated, then leaned closer to Wen Rong, resting her forehead against the other’s.

“Don’t be angry,” Xia Weige said softly, her voice carrying a hint of obedience.

This was how she used to placate Wen Rong seven years ago after doing something wrong. Although Wen Rong wouldn’t actually get angry, she would always apologize proactively and express affection like this.

Xia Weige forgot to consider whether Wen Rong would dislike this in their current relationship, it was just a physical habit ingrained in her.

Perhaps it was because, in her heart, Wen Rong always spoiled her, and she was always unrestrained in front of the other person.

Back then, Wen Rong would kiss her in this situation, holding her lips, lightly biting them as a subtle punishment.

Xia Weige’s breathing quickened slightly. They were too close now. Forehead to forehead, nose tip to nose tip.

Their lips were also very, very close as a result, their breaths mingling intimately.
