Into the Land of Dragons

Of Scales and Flesh

Bird chirping echoes above as the warm sun shines down onto the bright green grass. A soft breeze blows through the leaves of the trees. The trinkling of water from a nearby stream echoes through the trees. A small bird chirps as it floats down and lands on a head with scruffy black hair.

It chirps and peaks at the teen that's laying face down on the ground. Then a grunt echoes from the teen, making the bird chirp and fly off.

'Darn it... I should not have drank so much...' The teen complains as he continues to lay face down in the grass. 'Ugh, I have class in a few soon, I should get u-...'

The teen then lifts up a smooth white hand and pats the grass a few times. Then he grips some and rips it up, before opening his hand and letting it fall.

'This isn't my dorm room.... Did I wake up in the courtyard again?'

The teen lets out another grunt, but its followed by another deeper almost animalistic grunt from in front of him. He goes still for a few moments, before suddenly lifting his head up. Coming face to face with a purple face of a dragon, a large scar runs down its closed right eye.

Both the teen and dragon yelp in shock and shoot to their feet, they both stumble backwards. The teen falling onto his back, and the dragon stumbling into a tree, causing a loud thump. The two take several deep breaths, before they stop as they notice something.

Both their visions are split, as if look through the others eye. The teen notices as he and the dragon stand up, he's able to see what the dragons sees, and the dragon notices he can see what the teen sees.

The teen in question has scruffy black hair with a single white stripe in the front. He has a deep and thick scar going down his left closed eye. His right eye is a shiny teal.

He wears a purple tunic with black pants with a brown belt, that have several empty loops; and Nordic runes run along it. His right shoulder is a leather pauldron with fur lining, that's attached to a simple leather chest armor. He has a leather bracer, with fur lining, on his left arm. He's got a fingerless leather glove on his right hand. His black boots have a fur lining at the top. There's a satchel hanging from his shoulder.

He stands at 5'7'' (170 cm).

The dragon has appearance is similar to that of a Nightfury's nubs and ears on its head, its wing structure resembles that of a Skrill. Its body is covered in fine dark scales, which at a distance to it's neck, look like fur. The dragon also has secondary wings.

It also has a unique tail design which consists of 2 arrow-like shapes pointing inwards. It has a dark violet coloration on its back and a pale light purple coloration on its underbelly, However, unlike Night Furies; tail fluke one at the base of the tail and the other at the tip, The dragon has less muscular legs, each having four claws. The front legs appear to have an opposable thumb, similar to a human's, which can be used to better grab objects.

The dragon is 56 feet long (17 meters) with a massive 80-foot (24.5 meter) wingspan, and he stands about 12 feet (3.6 meters) tall at the shoulder.

It's left eye is teal, and it has a white stripe going from its left ear to the middle of its back, then it snakes out into spirals onto both of his wings.

The two stare at each other, the teens missing left eye acting as the vision for the dragon, and the dragons missing right eye, acting as the vision for the teen. They mimic each other's actions of looking down at themselves, before studying each other.

Then they walk up to each other and stare at each other, with the dragon looking down at the human.

"This is certainly weird." The human mutters.

"It really is." The Dragon lets out a chortle of dragon noises, but the human under stands him.

The teen blinks, and the dragon does as well.

"I understood you!" The teen yells.

"And why am I a dragon?!" The Dragon roars, as it takes a few steps back. "The last thing I remember was-"

"Drinking at the bar with my dorm mates/Drinking at the bar with my dorm mates."

The two look at each other, as their eyes widen with realization.

"Oh, you've gotta be kidding me/Oh, you've gotta be kidding me." The two say at the same time.

The teen sighs as he crosses his arms. "Does this mean what I think it means."

"I dunno, probably, I mean. We seem to be thinking the same-"

"Talking the same."

"So one conclusion could be-"

"We're the same person just in-"

"Different bodies." The Dragon sits back on its hind legs.

The teen throws his hands up. "You know how crazy that sounds."

"You know how crazy you sound?! You're talking to a dragon, and I'm a dragon! I hate dragons!"

"I do too!" The teen huffs, as the dragon rubs his chin with his claws.

"Alright, alright. If it is true, lets say our names at the same time."

"Fine." The Teen turns to the dragon. "Three, two, one."

"Rocky Greyson/Rocky Greyson."

They both groan at the same time, throwing their arms up.

"Great, just great." Human Rocky complains as he crosses his arms as he looks around. "Not only do I look like a weird younger, Viking version of myself, we're in some unknown place! I don't even know if we're on earth!"

"Hey, at least your not a dragon!" Dragon rocky complains, as he lays down and puts his paws on his head. "Why couldn't I be a dinosaur."

"And we're gonna have to give you a different name."

Dragon Rocky glares at teen rocky. "Why do I have to change my name?"

Human Rocky walks over and crouches down to the dragon. "Because Rocky is a human name."

"It was also the name of Lissy's dog."

"Shut up, don't nitpick. Besides, Rocky isn't exactly a good name for... you." Rocky gestures to the dragon.

"Are you gesturing to all of me?"

Rocky smirks as he stands up, along with the dragon. "Of course. Well what should we name you?"

Rocky puts a hand on his chin, while the dragon puts a paw on his chin.

"How about Niether/How about Niether." They same at the same time and they both smile at each other.

"Alright, Niether, now what?" Rocky puts his hands on his hips.

"Well, maybe we should try to see where we are?" Niether shrugs before going on all fours.

"We should be careful though, who knows what kind of dangerous animals might be-" Rocky notices Niether staring at him. "Oh, right, fire breathing dragon over here."

Niether rolls his eyes as he walks off, his footsteps rather quiet for a large beast. The human and dragon walk through the forest, with Rocky looking around in awe as the dragon keeps his eye forward.

"Gotta admit, this split vision is a little nauseating."

"Tell me about it, I feel kinda overwhelmed." Rocky rubs his head. "Honestly, kinda hopping this is a bad dream... but then I'm also hoping its not because of that exam that was today, I really didn't want to do it."

"Ugh, physics..."

The two shutter, but suddenly their attention is drawn to an opening in the forest. They walk out of the grouping of trees and find themselves at the edge of a cliff. They walk up to the edge and look out to the island, finding a large open forest below them, with a large stream and several lakes.

But what draws their attention is several Deadly Nadders fly lower through the forest, dozens of Terrible Terrors annoying a large Monstrous Nightmare. They see a few Gronckles eating away at the side of the cliff.

A few Hideous Zipplebacks are roaring at each other over a pile of fish near a stream. A couple Hobblegrunts chase each other, a Whispering death shoots into the ground as it burrows.

Rocky and Niether blink a few times, before they slowly back up into the forest without a word. After a minute they turn to each other.

"You realizing what I'm realizing."

Niether nods. "Yes."

Rocky sighs as he runs his hands down his face. "Of my... We're in How To Train Your Dragon..."

"Oh boy... That movie that Dylan likes so much?"

"It wasn't just a movie, there were three of them, several shows and games." Rocky rubs his temples. "Why'd we have to be reincarnated here? I've only seen the first movie, and that was because Dylan was so adamant about it!"

"Oh my goodness, I see it now. I kinda look like a Night Fury." Niether points out and Rocky looks him over.

"Yeah, you kinda do... Are you a Night Fury."

Niether rolls his eyes as he wipes Rocky in the side of the head with his tail.

"AW, what the f-!" Rocky holds the side of his head in pain.

"No dumb dumb, Night Furies are all black." Niether starts heading back to where they woke up.

"Didn't have to hit me so hard." Rocky rubs the side of his head, and follows after Niether. "But the questions is, why are we even here. Why are you/me, a dragon. Why do we both have a missing eye, and why do we have white stripes."

"The world may never know." Niether glances back at the human.

The two walk through the forest in silence for a few moments. While they do Rocky looks himself over, feeling up his slim but muscular arms, before patting himself down.

One of Niether's ear flaps flicker, before he glances back.

"What are you doing?"

"Checking my new body out." Rocky states as he rubs the scar over his eye. "Its pretty similar to our old one. But you know, younger... more muscular... a bit more handsome. And this cool as heck scar!"

"What ever you say." Niether's tail sways behind him, as his wings shift.

"So.... what's it like being a dragon?"

"Ugh, sucks." Niether's head droops. "I feel so much heavier, my senses are completely overwhelmed, I'm just glad we're used trying to finish assignments last minute, or staying up for days trying to finish them."

"Ugh, I hatted Collage so much!" Rocky loudly groans.

"But I do feel really strong, and for some reason, this I know how to work this body."

"So you can fly?"

The two reach a small clearing, as Niether spreads his massive wings. Then he flaps them hard and takes to the air, the force behind his take off throws rocky to the ground.

"Woah..." Rocky mutters as he watches Niether take to the sky, but also sees the dragon looking around the island as he flies up.

Niether continues to soar higher and higher as he looks down at the island, before stopping and flies in place. The dragon lets out a low rumble as he flaps his massive wings a few times, noting that they produce little sound.

He glances around the island, noting the hilly terrain, but rather small square millage. He continues to look around, seeing a large water fall flowing off a large mountain at the corner of the island.

But then in his other vision, he spots Rocky panic as a pink Deadly Nadder suddenly appears in front of him. Rocky panics as he flails

"Crap!"

Niether flaps his wings as he shoots down towards the ground, before he brings them together as he spins, diving-bombing towards the Deadly Nadder. He opens his mouth as a purple and blue energy forms.

Down on the ground, Rocky panics as he jumps backwards as several spines from the Nadder's tail nearly hits him. The Nadder goes to charge at him, but then a purple and blue colored lightning blast. The blast is charged with energy, creating sparks and shock waves on impact.

The shockwave, causes the Nadder to stumble back, as Niether lands on the ground with a loud thud, kicking up some dust. He shoots his wings up and lets out a loud low roar.

"Back off!" Niether warms as he growls.

"A Briskwind Boltren?!" The Nadder squaks in shock, before going on the defensive. "Why are you protecting a Viking?!"

"I have no reason to disclose that to you, chicken!"

The Nadder lets out a growl as the spines on its tail shoot up. Niether charges up another Power Shot, bits of lighting crackling in its mouth. The Nadder takes a step back, glancing between Niether and the human.

Rocky just zips behind a tree, and peaks out. The Nadder's tail spines then lower down, before it takes to the air.

"A human won't live long on this island, Briskwind, you better be careful."

Niether watches as the Deadly Nadder squawks as it flies off. Rocky then walks out from behind the tree, as Neither cancels his shot, smoke pouring from his mouth.

"Well, they didn't seem happy at all."

"Did you understand her?" Niether turns to him.

"I don't speak chicken." Rocky crosses his arms. "I think I might only be able to understand you."

Niether puts a paw on his chest. "Then I will be your oh so helpful translator."

Rocky does a dramatic bow. "Oh, I am forever in your debt!"

Niether lets out a low guttural chuckle. But then the two jump as thunder echoes in the distance. They glance off to the side as storm clouds start to roll in.

"Well, we say that waterfall on that mountain. Let's see if there's a cave near it."

"How are we gonna get up there?" Rocky looks at Niether in confusion, and the dragon shakes his wings. "Ohhhh, right."

Niether shoots forward, and throws his head under Rocky and tosses him up into the air. Rocky yelps and lands in the middle of Niether's back.

"Better hold on!" Niether opens his wings up wide.

"Don't you dare- AHHHH!"

Niether shoots up to the sky at blinding speeds, while Rocky holds onto the small spines on Niether's back. Rocky's high pitched screams echo through the island as several dragons look up as a purple blur shoots past.

Suddenly Niether throws his wings out as he comes to a landing at the top of the mountain. Rocky shakes as he slowly falls off the side of Niether, his teal eye widen.

Niether looks down at him, with a dragon smirk. "You good?"

"I would vomit, but my stomach is inside out." Rocky slowly stands up, fixing his hair.

Niether lets out another guttural chuckle, making the human glare at him. Suddenly a loud boom echoes above them, and rains starts to pelt.

"Ah, this way!" Rocky yells as he sees a cave up ahead and charges in.

Niether gallops after the human and the two slide into the dark cave. Rocky shakes his arms out, before wiping down his clothes. He then grunts as he shoots back as Niether shakes himself like a dog.

"Not cool!" Rocky shouts at the dragon.

Neither just ignores him and looks around. It's a rather empty cave, said for a few old bones and some sticks.

"I hope nobody's living here." Rocky rubs his arms as he starts growing cold.

Niether sniffs the air a few times, before turning to the human. "Any smell in here is very old, nearly gone."

"Thank god." Rocky starts walking around and picking up the sticks, then in a the middle of the cave, be builds a small campfire.

Rocky then looks at Niether, and the dragon walks up, and fires a small powershot at the sticks. They catch on fire, and the flames burn purple and blue. Rocky lets out a happy sigh as he holds his hands forward, warming himself up.

Another boom echoes outside the cave as the rain grows heavier. Rocky sits down in front of the fire and stares into it. Niether sits across from him. The human crosses his arms.

"Well, can't say that I'm still not overwhelmed." Rocky points out. "Waking up in a new world, with two bodies practically. A world that's supposed to be fictional."

"And I'm a dragon!" Niether complains. "Why'd I have to be the dragon, and not you?"

"We're the same person."

"You know what I mean." Niether bares his sharp teeth.

Rocky lets out a long sigh. "I know, it's just." He brings his hands to his chest. "Feels weird to be a teen again, at least I think I'm a teen."

"You do look like you're in late highschool."

Rocky then lays on the cold stone floor, and stares up to the ceiling as darkness starts to grow outside.

"I feel like I should be absolutely panicking and losing my mind, but-"

"This feels free?"

Rocky nods in agreement. "No more family pressure, no more pressure from collage. No societal pressure."

"But there are man eating dragons all around." Niether points out as he lays down, stretching out his legs.

"Honestly, rather take that then trying to become an engineer."

"No more homework."

"No more staying up late to finish assignments."

"No more low grades because you forgot to cite your sources. Yeah, I see what you mean." Niether rolls onto his side, his belly facing the fire.

"I... I just hope Dylan will be alright."

Rocky looks over to Niether and notices something on his chest. He narrows his eyes and notices a small nordic dragon.

"That's odd." Rocky mutters.

"Yeah it is. Do you have one?" Niether looks over to him.

Rocky shifts his armor and tunic, and gets a look at his chest. Right over his heart is the exact same small nordic dragon tattoo. They both glance at each other, and shrug.

"Way to tired to deal with this/Way to tired to deal with this." They both say and lay back down.

Rocky lets out a long and loud yawn, then its followed by Niether doing the same thing.

"Man, we've barely been in this world, and we're already tired?"

"Well, we can deal with all this new stuff, after a good night sleep." Niether closes his eyes. "Heh, I don't even see your vision when I close my eye."

For Rocky part of his vison goes dark when Niether closed his eyes. "Same, nice to know."

Rocky puts his arms behind his back as he stares up to the ceiling. He starts to think about the day.

'I wonder where we are in the timeline, if we are in the series. Are we before, or after the first movie...' Rocky lets out a sigh as he thinks. 'I'm sorry Dylan, I should've watched the rest of it with you!'

Rocky continues to stare up at the ceiling, before he glances at Niether. Soft and low grumbles come from the dragon, as he snores. Rocky shakes his head as he looks back up.

"...I'm hungry...."

(This is just a test run to see what you all think.)
