Hua Feng’s face was cold and stern, his brows slightly furrowed as he listened intently to an executive beside him quietly report on some work.
Chen Xing hurried over, giving the executive who was speaking an apologetic gesture. Without bothering about the interruption, he went straight around to Hua Feng’s side.
Hua Feng lowered his eyes to the report without looking up.
“What is it?”
Chen Xing’s forehead began to sweat. The words turned over on the tip of his tongue, and he didn’t dare state the matter outright.
“President Hua, that lady over there…”
Hua Feng closed the file and gave him a strange, scrutinizing glance. Then, following the direction Chen Xing indicated, he raised his eyes toward the reception desk.
The spacious and imposing lobby had a polished marble floor that gleamed like a giant mirror, clearly reflecting the slender, graceful figure of a woman.
The girl wore a soft pink mermaid dress. Its delicate satin fabric shimmered with a warm, pearly luster beneath the ceiling lights, the hem falling just right around her slender calves.
Her jet-black hair, reaching down to her waist, flowed smoothly over her delicate back like the finest silk.
With a single glance, Hua Feng recognized Ruan Jiaqi.
Combined with Chen Xing’s vague, hesitant expression just moments ago, the sharp insight he had honed through years in a position of power allowed him to piece together the general situation almost instantly.
As his assistant, Chen Xing failing to recognize his boss’s wife was, in any case, somewhat difficult to justify.
But Hua Feng merely gave Chen Xing a faintly displeased glance and did not become angry.
To him, this was nothing more than an insignificant little incident during work, like a typo corrected in a document—not something worth investing more emotion into.
No one was perfect. As long as Chen Xing performed his actual duties impeccably, that was enough.
As for whether his assistant paid sufficient attention to his wife, Hua Feng had never considered that something that needed to be specifically emphasized or protected.
Still, as far as he remembered, this seemed to be the first time she had come to see him at work.
Hua Feng tilted his head slightly toward Chen Xing, his voice calm and emotionless.
“Have them disperse for now. Postpone the meeting.”
Chen Xing felt as though a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders. He dared not say another word and immediately turned around, silently and swiftly dispersing all the executives behind Hua Feng.
In an instant, everyone was gone.
The atmosphere around them fell silent.
Hua Feng stood motionless where he was. His sharply tailored gunmetal-gray suit outlined his broad, powerful shoulders and back. Without saying a word, he naturally exuded an aura that left no room for anyone to overstep.
After what had happened the previous night, Ruan Jiaqi was actually a little afraid of him.
Although Hua Feng had exactly the same face as the eldest young master, his cold, stern demeanor was completely different from the eldest young master’s cheerful and gentle personality.
When the receptionist and security guards had stopped her from entering earlier, she had been extremely anxious. Now that she had finally found him, however, Ruan Jiaqi became nervous again.
Her feet seemed rooted to the spot, and she hesitated, not daring to approach.
Standing there, she unconsciously twisted the expensive, silky fabric of her dress between her fingers, bunching up the delicate satin before slowly smoothing it back out.
Instead, Hua Feng spoke to her first.
“Come here.”
His voice was still low and cold.
Ruan Jiaqi’s heart suddenly jumped. She drew in half a startled breath and, not daring to delay any longer, hurriedly lifted her skirt and trotted over to Hua Feng.
Her long hair swayed forward with her movement, falling over her chest. The little lace shawl made her look even more delicate and petite. Her large eyes were filled with a watery sheen, while her long eyelashes curled outward like flower stamens.
Hua Feng lowered his gaze indifferently, his eyes falling upon her face, which was clearly made up.
“Did you need something?”
Ruan Jiaqi nodded, instinctively averting her gaze, a little afraid to look directly at him.
Of course I did. And it’s something extremely important!
Hua Feng did not urge her. His probing gaze remained fixed on her, clearly waiting for her to continue.
Ruan Jiaqi was at a loss.
How could she tell him the real reason?
She couldn’t possibly say outright:
Actually, I came here specifically after carefully dressing myself up and presenting myself to you, so that we could explore the great harmony of life and you could enjoy me.
Please, sleep with me!
…
She would rather die than say something like that.
But apart from that, she genuinely couldn’t think of any suitable excuse.
The original owner had left behind such scant memories that she could barely find any traces of the two of them actually living together or interacting.
Naturally, there was no shared topic of conversation either.
Ruan Jiaqi pursed her lips, repeatedly bringing words to the tip of her tongue, only to swallow them back down.
Standing before Hua Feng, she only dared to stare at his sharply pressed suit trousers and gleaming thin-soled leather shoes.
Her thick, long eyelashes drooped softly, casting butterfly-wing-like shadows beneath her eyes.
Seeing that she remained silent for so long, Hua Feng’s patience finally ran out. He lowered his eyes and glanced at his watch.
“Forget it. Come with me.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he turned neatly and strode away with his long legs.
After a few steps, however, no one followed behind him.
Hua Feng’s footsteps paused slightly, and he turned sideways to look back.
The pink figure behind him was awkwardly lifting her complicated skirt. Her slender ankles wobbled slightly inside her high heels, making her unsteady. Every step looked nerve-racking.
Hua Feng’s expression remained unchanged, but without making it obvious, he slowed his normally brisk pace.
Ruan Jiaqi noticed that he was waiting for her. She hurriedly summoned all her courage and jogged after him, her cheeks flushing faintly with embarrassment.
“I’m sorry. I’m not very good at walking in high heels…”
Hua Feng said nothing.
Suddenly, a large, dry, warm hand reached out and firmly grasped her wrist.
His long, powerful fingers wrapped securely around her cool, delicate skin, carrying an unmistakable hint of possessiveness.
Ruan Jiaqi froze for a moment.
Looking at the man’s tall back, the warmth radiating from her wrist made her heart race. She felt dazed and almost weightless as Hua Feng led her along, stumbling slightly behind him as they entered the elevator.
Several receptionists who had witnessed the entire scene stared with eyes wider than pigeon eggs, their jaws practically dropping to the floor.
Good heavens!
Oh, heavens above!
They were done for!
…
It really did seem like she was the president’s wife.
