Beyond the towering stone gates of Oakhaven lay the Emerald Maw a vast, untamed wilderness that stretched across thousands of leagues. It was a region where civilized empires dared not tread lightly, dominated by towering primeval trees, ancient beast territories, and dense currents of wild, unrefined mana.
Adam walked through the dense undergrowth, his dark tunic completely unmarred by the dirt or thorned vines that choked the forest floor.
To a normal mortal adventurer, this forest was a death trap. Poisonous flora exhaled glowing purple spores into the humid air, while the distant, earth-shaking roars of rank-four magical beasts echoed through the valley. Yet, as Adam strolled quietly beneath the massive canopy, the wilderness seemed to yield to him.
The glowing spores parted around his body in a gentle breeze. The thorned vines subtly bent outward, clearing a smooth path for his steps. Even the territorial beasts lurking in the shadowed hollows went instantly rigid as he passed, their primal instincts screaming at them to play dead until the entity moved far out of range.
Adam breathed in the crisp, wild air. Unlike the artificial, refined mana within the city, the energy here was raw, chaotic, and brimming with nature's unbridled vitality.
This is closer to how the cosmos was born, Adam thought, watching a stream of pure liquid mana bubble out from a moss-covered rock formation. Unfiltered, dangerous, and free.
He knelt by the edge of a crystal-clear river. Floating beneath the shimmering surface were elemental fish woven entirely from light and water magic, darting between smooth, iridescent pebbles. He dipped his hand into the water, feeling the cool current flow through his fingers.
Suddenly, the tranquil silence of the grove was shattered.
CRACK!
The thunderous sound of splintering ancient trees echoed from a nearby ridge, followed by a sharp, metallic ring of swords clashing against heavy hide. Low, desperate shouts of mortal fighters cut through the air, accompanied by the furious, deafening roar of a beast.
Adam stood up slowly, wiping the water from his hand.
"Conflict," he murmured softly.
He didn't rush. He simply took a casual step forward, his figure blurring slightly as he glided toward the ridge.
Reaching the crest of the hill, Adam looked down into a wide clearing. A squad of mercenary adventurers dressed in battered steel armor and wielding glowing enchantments were backed against a sheer rock face. Standing before them was a massive, six-eyed shadow panther, its fur bristling with crackling dark lightning. A fallen carriage lay overturned behind the squad, its wooden frame smashed to splinters.
The beast swiped its massive claw, sending a arc of dark electricity that shattered the defense barrier of the squad's lead knight, sending him flying into the dirt with a bloody cough.
"Hold the line!" a young female mage screamed, her hands trembling as she tried to channel a healing spell. "If the creature breaks through, the cargo is lost!"
The shadow panther bared its razor-sharp fangs, raising a massive paw to crush the fallen knight.
Adam leaned against the trunk of a massive oak tree at the edge of the clearing, watching the desperate struggle unfold with quiet, unblinking eyes.
