The mist grew thicker as Adam ventured deeper into the heart of the Emerald Maw.

Here, the canopy reached such dizzying heights that the sunlight from the world's twin suns was reduced to a faint, emerald dusk. The trees were no longer made of common wood; their trunks resembled polished jade, pulsing with an ancient, rhythmic heartbeat. The ground beneath his boots was blanketed by glowing, violet moss that emitted a soft, chiming hum whenever his weight touched it.

Adam walked with unhurried grace. He was not following a map, for no mortal had ever charted these forbidden depths. Instead, he was following a subtle, ancient vibration in the earth a faint resonance that felt strangely familiar, echoing like a distant memory from an age long before the current mortal empires took root.Full novel: Omniarch — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

As he crossed a crest of overgrown roots, the dense foliage suddenly gave way to a massive, circular basin. Embedded within the earth sat the ruins of a forgotten civilization. Colossal stone pillars, carved with intricate geometric runes, stood tall against the encroaching jungle. At the center of the basin lay a half-buried temple crafted from black obsidian, its surface completely unweathered by time or nature.

Unlike the wild, chaotic nature of the forest, the energy surrounding the temple was rigid, cold, and calculated.

An ancient seal, Adam observed silently, stepping down into the basin.

He approached the massive double doors of the obsidian temple. They were bound tight by thick, glowing chains of golden light a high-tiered sealing array left behind by powerful mages or divine entities eons ago. Embedded in the center of the doors was a large, carved eye that flickered with lingering magic.

As Adam approached, the carved eye snapped open, flaring with a blinding crimson radiance.

"Halt, trespasser!" A booming, spectral voice echoed through the basin, vibrating the stone pillars. The lingering spirit of a long-dead guardian manifested above the doorway, taking the form of a towering knight clad in ethereal, blue flame. "This is the Tomb of the Shattered Sky! None may enter without the Royal Crest of the Sun-King, lest your soul be incinerated by the holy fires!"

Adam stopped a few paces from the glowing chains. He looked at the spectral knight with calm, unblinking eyes.

"The Sun-King?" Adam asked, his tone mild. "I do not know of him. Has his reign passed?"

The guardian ghost sneered, raising an ethereal broadsword that crackled with divine light. "The Sun-King ruled a million stars! His domain was eternal! Turn back now, mortal, or face absolute destruction!"

"A million stars is a small domain," Adam replied softly. "And nothing built of mana is eternal."

The spectral guardian roared, swinging his massive ethereal blade down toward Adam's head. The surrounding air cracked with sacred solar fire, capable of vaporizing an entire army in a single breath. Yet, Adam didn't even raise a hand to defend himself. The blade struck an invisible boundary an inch above his brow and instantly shattered into harmless flickers of blue light.

Before the spirit could comprehend what had happened, Adam casually extended his hand toward the massive golden chains locking the obsidian doors.

He did not use magic. He did not exert physical force. Instead, he simply unraveled the fundamental structure of the spell. With a gentle tap of his index finger, the ancient, god-tier sealing array a complex web of millions of interlocking runes began to undo itself like thread pulled from a worn coat.

The golden light flared violently, turned pale gray, and then dissolved into harmless dust that scattered across the damp moss.

The spectral knight gasped, his ethereal body wavering as the core anchor of his existence was unceremoniously dismantled. "Impossible... the Sun-King's seal was forged with the heart of a dying star! Who... what are you?!"

"I am merely a traveler passing through," Adam said quietly.

With a soft push, the heavy obsidian doors groaned open, grinding against centuries of accumulated dust and revealing the pitch-black abyss within.
