It was the height of midsummer.
Even though it was only the early hours of the morning, the breeze already carried a stinging heat and the cicadas were already shrieking in a relentless, buzzing chorus. The scorching sun beat down mercilessly upon the sports field.
The basketball courts had been recently renovated and the new plastic surfacing emitted a pungent, sharp odor under the heat. A group of high school boys swarmed around a single basketball, drenched in sweat. As their bodies collided and their laughter rang out, they radiated the intense, stifling heat wave unique to youth.
Among them, one boy was particularly eye catching.
While his peers were mostly caught in that awkward halfway point of development, no longer looking like children yet lacking the true presence of men, he had already completed his physical metamorphosis. He possessed the definitive form of a fully grown man.
He was tall and imposing, with a broad, heavy frame layered with firm, well defined muscle. His skin, tanned to a pale golden hue by the sun, looked lustrous and supple.
His proportions were perfectly balanced, every muscle distributed exactly where it ought to be without a single trace of redundancy. Even among adult men, his physique would be considered top tier. If he were to post his photos online, people would undoubtedly cause a stir, huddling in the comments to worship him as a “male deity.”
He was soaked to the bone with sweat, his T shirt clinging to him and faintly outlining the contours of his body as steam seemed to rise from his moving form.
The boy leaped high into the air, drawing everyone’s gaze upward. The brilliance of the sunlight forced the onlookers to squint. With a powerful sweep of his long arm, the basketball traced a beautiful, elegant arc through the sky,
Swish.
The ball dropped cleanly through the hoop. A burst of cheers erupted instantly.
“Nice!”
“As expected of the Boss!”
“That was amazing!”
“You could honestly go pro!”
Amidst the fawning praise of his lackeys, Di Zhe walked off the court with an air of immense pride. He unscrewed a bottle of water and took a long drink, his eyes scanning the surrounding crowd. When he realized there wasn’t a single girl or Omega in sight, the triumph suddenly felt hollow and boring.
After such intense exercise, his body felt restless and agitated. Di Zhe was in the middle of his most vigorous teenage years; even on days when he did absolutely nothing, he’d find himself “standing at attention” once or twice in the morning. If he engaged in any activity that got his blood pumping and his energy flowing, it was even more uncontrollable.
“Fuck,” Di Zhe cursed under his breath. He squatted down by the edge of the court to try and settle himself, feeling like a dog that had hit its mating season but couldn’t find a partner.
With a tone of frustrated longing, Di Zhe grumbled, “I’m this handsome, I’ve got a great body and I’m an Alpha to boot. How is it that no one ever writes me love letters?”
In truth, Di Zhe did have a “mating season.” To be more precise, it was his Rut. However, Di Zhe felt that an Omega’s Heat and an Alpha’s Rut were essentially the same thing. Weren’t the different names just used to distinguish the two? At the end of the day, wasn’t it all just being horny?
From not far away, the crisp, melodious sound of girls laughing and playing drifted over, causing the hearts of the group of teenage boys to flutter with longing.
Di Zhe looked up and prayed to the heavens. “I want to be in love so bad. Dear God, please grant me a girlfriend. If not a girl, a boyfriend is fine too. An Omega is fine. Even a Beta is fine.”
The group found his desperation quite amusing. One of the troublemakers asked, “What about an Alpha? Is an Alpha no good?”
Di Zhe wasn’t picky at all. “Well, if that Alpha is willing to let me be the one on top, then I guess that’s not out of the question either.”
The crowd roared with laughter. They all knew Di Zhe was a complete “love brain”, someone whose head was filled with nothing but the desire to find a partner every single hour of the day.
Since the start of their first year of high school, Di Zhe had attempted to fall in love time and time again. He had sent out love letter after love letter.
Without exception, every single confession had ended in failure. To date, he had reached the staggering, record breaking milestone of sixty six consecutive rejections. Because of this, Di Zhe had earned the nickname “The Great Romantic” around campus.
Di Zhe himself felt no shame regarding the title; in fact, he wore it as a badge of honor. No matter what anyone else said, he wanted to experience a grand, earth shattering romance, the kind of love you’d die for. Only then could you truly call it “youth”
Sitting by the court, Di Zhe pulled out his phone and began snapping a series of selfies. He focused on highlighting his toned physique and his fierce Alpha aura. He planned to post them to his “Little Orange Book” social media account.

Originally, he had thought that if he couldn’t find anyone to fall in love with in the real world, then having an online romance in the virtual world would be fine too.
But day after day on that platform, aside from netizens who liked to flirt with him and run their mouths full of nonsense, no one ever seriously sent him a private message saying they wanted to date him.
Previously he had encountered an older girl who was willing to chat with him for a while but the moment he mentioned wanting to start a relationship, she burst out laughing and teased him, saying he was still just a kid.
A kid?
He was over 180 centimeters tall and still growing. He was an Alpha who had already completed his differentiation two years ago. How on earth was he still a kid?
Di Zhe thought about it indignantly.
After snapping several photos, he felt that the scenery there wasn’t good enough. So he left the crowd behind and ran to the grassy slope on the other side of the sports field.
Even that didn’t quite satisfy him.
In the end, Di Zhe simply took off his shirt entirely, planning to wear only his school uniform jacket without anything underneath while taking photos.
But the moment he took off his shirt and lowered his head to look at his own chest and abdominal muscles, he first fell into admiration all by himself.
He reached out and touched them a couple of times, grinning foolishly. Then, with a deeply satisfied tone, he said happily, “Damn, the way I’ve trained my chest and abs… they’re seriously handsome. How am I this good looking?”
Before the words had even finished leaving his mouth, a middle aged man’s furious shout crashed down over his head.
“Di Zhe! You again!!”
The voice came from behind him.
Di Zhe leaned his head back, bending his neck at an awkward angle and looked upside down toward the direction of the sound.
Standing there were the principal… and another boy.
Who was that?
It was a boy Di Zhe had never seen before at school.
Yet in that fleeting glance just now, Di Zhe froze.
Wait.
He thought he had just seen a very beautiful face.
In the next moment, Di Zhe flipped upright like a swallow turning in midair and sprang straight up from the ground. With quick, monkey like steps he dashed to the principal’s side and shouted loudly, “Hello, Principal!”
Even while speaking, his eyes remained glued to the boy standing beside the principal.
The boy had a tall and slender figure, about the same height as him. Judging by his appearance, he was roughly seventeen or eighteen years old.
In the height of summer, he was still dressed neatly in a long sleeved shirt.
His features were strikingly handsome. The bridge of his nose was straight and sharp, his skin was very pale and his eyes were phoenix shaped with slightly upturned corners. His irises were lighter than most people’s, carrying a faint hint of gray. His lips were thin.
It was a face that carried a somewhat enchanting beauty.
Yet at the same time, his temperament was refined and scholarly, giving people the impression of someone filled with quiet elegance and learning. That gentle, cultivated air softened the overwhelming impact of his looks, while also adding an indescribable charm of its own.
Oh, my, god!
Di Zhe’s eyes went completely wide as he stared.
To be fair, he thought that all the people he had confessed to before had been pretty good too. Here and there he could always find something cute or appealing about them.
But this boy…
This boy was different.
This boy looked exactly like the person he had imagined in his dreams.
So much so that the principal’s endless scolding beside him became nothing but meaningless background noise, completely filtered out of his awareness.
“Di Zhe, you brought your phone to school again!”
“Why aren’t you in class?”
“And where are your clothes?! Look at you! What kind of behavior is this? Put your clothes back on immediately!”
“Di Zhe! Are you even listening to me? I told you to put your clothes on!”
At the same time, Di Zhe noticed the boy’s eyelashes tremble slightly and his gaze shift. His eyes swept briefly across Di Zhe’s body before his brows knit together.
Only then did Di Zhe snap back to his senses.
He flashed the boy a wide grin.
Not only did he fail to put his clothes back on immediately, he even deliberately straightened his chest, proudly displaying his well built body beneath the sunlight, his skin gleaming with beads of sweat.
The boy looked awkward and quickly turned his face away.
When Di Zhe looked closely, he noticed something.
Oh?
Even his ears had turned red.
That was kind of cute, wasn’t it?
The principal was furious.
“Di Zhe! Put your clothes on!”
Only then did Di Zhe pull his shirt back over his head.
In that brief moment, the principal already looked as though he had developed a splitting headache from dealing with an incorrigible student. Shaking his head helplessly, he turned and began to leave with the unfamiliar boy.
Di Zhe immediately rushed forward, taking three quick steps to catch up, eagerly volunteering himself.
“Principal, sir, is this a new student? Is he here to tour the school? I can show him around!”
The principal waved him away impatiently.
“That won’t be necessary. Go back to your class.”
At that very moment, the bell signaling the end of break rang.
The physical education teacher blew a whistle, calling the students back to line up.
Still unwilling to give up, Di Zhe followed after the new student, chattering enthusiastically.
“Hey, classmate, classmate, what’s your name? My name is Di Zhe. The ‘Di’ from Di Renjie and ‘Zhe’ written with two ‘ji’ characters. I’m an Alpha, seventeen years old. What grade are you in? Which class? How old are you this year? Let’s be friends!”
His smile was brilliant, revealing a sharp little tiger tooth on one side.
The boy did not respond to him at all.
Instead, he stepped slightly to the side to avoid him.
The principal was already suffering from a headache and snapped irritably, glaring at him.
“You’re still here? Go back! If you don’t return to class right now, I’ll mark you absent and deduct points!”
Sigh.
With no other choice, Di Zhe could only slink back toward class in defeat.
The entire exchange between Di Zhe, the principal and that mysterious new student had been witnessed by his loyal group of lackeys. As soon as he returned to the group, they crowded around him, poking their heads out and asking with burning curiosity, “Boss, who was that?”
Di Zhe was still completely submerged in the dizzying tremors of love at first sight. He looked dazed, his voice airy and distracted as he murmured, “I don’t know.. but he’s just so incredibly good looking…”
The moment those words left Di Zhe’s lips, everyone froze. A collective realization dawned upon the group.
Sure enough, a second later, they watched as Di Zhe gazed longingly in the direction where the new student had disappeared. With a soulful sigh, he declared, “One knows not whence love arises but once it grows, it runs deep. Brothers, I’ve finally met my true love.”
They responded in a perfect, flat unison: “You’re in love again again again?!”
Di Zhe’s expression turned solemn, his voice filled with unwavering conviction. “It’s different this time. This time, it’s the real deal!”
On the other side of the campus, the principal’s aged face was flushed a deep, embarrassed red.
“I am so sorry about that, student,” the principal said, sounding utterly mortified. “Please don’t let that display give you the wrong impression. The students at our school are usually very civilized and polite. That Di Zhe is a bit of a problem child, he’s a total exception.”
…Di Zhe?
Shen Yandong gave a faint, elegant nod of acknowledgment. Unbidden, the image of Di Zhe flashed through his mind: that youthful, powerful body, bronzed and glistening with a raw, fleshy luster under the golden sunlight and those deep brown eyes that had been so unabashedly filled with aggression and desire.
A strange, chaotic sensation stirred in Shen Yandong’s chest and his throat felt inexplicably parched and hot.
What an utterly indecent Alpha, he thought with a flicker of silent disgust.
