In broad daylight, right in the middle of a public place, Di Zhe confessed again.
In an instant, the students who had been walking normally toward their classrooms suddenly found reasons to linger. Some “accidentally” dropped their belongings, while others abruptly stopped to admire the flowers and plants nearby. Without exception, everyone slowed their pace and pricked up their ears.
And it wasn’t just the students here.
Up in the teaching building, some curious onlookers had already begun calling their friends over. Soon, a crowd gathered at one corner of the building, craning their necks as they leaned out to watch the spectacle below.
“What’s going on? What’s going on?”
“Di Zhe confessed again!”
“Let me see which unlucky person it is this time… Wait, wow, that guy looks really good. Where did he come from? I’ve never seen him before.”
“I think he’s the transfer student who just arrived today. He hasn’t officially reported yet, so no one knows his name.”
“What? He just arrived? That’s way too fast this time, Di Zhe has broken his own record!”
“Oh my god, it smells amazing! Di Zhe must really be in love this time. His pheromones have drifted all the way over here.”
“Were his pheromones ever this strong before?”
As everyone knew, an alpha’s pheromones had four main functions:
First, to express affection.
Second, to soothe.
Third, to intimidate.
And fourth, to arouse.
Their pheromones could also change according to their emotional state.
Di Zhe’s affection was always openly displayed.
He seemed to fall in love very easily yet the intensity of his pheromones proved that his feelings were not false. This time, he had truly and genuinely fallen in love at first sight.
And judging from the blazing look in his eyes, he actually seemed quite confident.
Could this guy seriously believe that his confession might succeed?
Still, things were always like this.
To be honest, everyone found it rather puzzling. How did he manage to fall in love every single time, get rejected every single time, feel dejected for two days after the rejection yet somehow emerge without a single visible wound? The next time around, he would fall in love all over again and his pheromones would still carry that same unreserved, overwhelmingly passionate affection.
Shen Yandong frowned slightly.
His gaze, cool and distant, settled on Di Zhe standing before him. A faint trace of irritation stirred in his heart.
He had never been accustomed to people expressing their emotions so openly and without restraint, especially toward someone who was practically a stranger.
In a low voice, he said, “We’ve only just met. We don’t even know the most basic things about each other. How can you call something like this sincerity?”
Di Zhe clearly wasn’t discouraged by those words. Instead, he lifted his head excitedly and smiled brightly, his eyes filled with fervent anticipation.
“You can feel my sincerity through my pheromones.”
Shen Yandong’s expression darkened slightly, though his eyes remained completely calm, without the slightest ripple.
“Pheromones?” he repeated coolly.
He looked at Di Zhe with a composed expression. “You’re right. In theory, pheromones can indeed express emotions but they’re not the same thing as a resonance between two minds, nor do they equal understanding.”
Di Zhe seemed not to grasp the deeper meaning behind Shen Yandong’s words. He spoke plainly and directly.
“But I really do like you. My sincerity is right there in those pheromones, it can’t be faked.”
Shen Yandong pressed his lips together, his gaze still calm and resolute.
“Do you think pheromones can replace everything?” he asked. “Can every human emotion truly be expressed through chemical signals? You talk about sincerity but I don’t believe a single scent is enough to make me acknowledge it.”
He paused briefly before continuing, his voice slow and low.
“To me, an alpha’s pheromones are not the most sincere form of expression. I respect the feelings in your heart… but this is too shallow. Affection should be built upon understanding and respect yet you and I haven’t even established the most basic acquaintance.”
Di Zhe stood there, stunned.
He had been rejected many times before. It wasn’t as though he had never expected the possibility.
But he had never imagined receiving such a calm, serious response.
He knew people often laughed at him for being a hopeless romantic. The ones who had rejected him before had never taken him very seriously.
This was the first time someone had rejected him with such solemnity.
Shen Yandong’s words were like a gentle breeze that swept through his heart, stirring up a strange feeling he had never experienced before.
Then Shen Yandong added another move, cold and merciless.
“Besides, I’m a beta. No matter how your pheromones change, I can’t feel them.”
So cold.
And yet… he liked it so much.
His heart skipped even faster.
“Isn’t that even better?” Di Zhe said after snapping back to his senses. He smiled again, his eyes sparkling with unwavering sincerity and confidence.
“Shen Yandong, maybe you think liking someone requires a lot of time but I don’t see it that way. I believe in intuition. I trust my feelings. My pheromones can’t be wrong, they’re the most direct proof.”
“You’re a beta. You don’t have pheromones, so you can’t influence me but the moment I saw you, my pheromones became restless. Doesn’t that prove even more clearly that my feelings for you have nothing to do with pheromones? That it’s simply pure affection?”
“For me, liking someone is just liking them. It doesn’t need any preconditions.”
Shen Yandong’s eyes grew slightly colder but he didn’t immediately argue back.
He knew that Di Zhe’s certainty came from a kind of natural confidence.
The confidence of someone born an alpha.
A debate like this was meaningless.
Shen Yandong turned around, intending to leave.
But the moment he saw Shen Yandong preparing to walk away, Di Zhe quickly hurried forward, stepping ahead of him and blocking his path.
“Wait a moment, Shen Yandong!” Di Zhe called out, his tone still brimming with enthusiasm. “It’s fine if you say you won’t accept it. If you’re unwilling today, I understand that too but take this love letter first. Just treat it as a gift to celebrate your admission.”
Shen Yandong disliked this feeling of being relentlessly entangled by someone and wanted to shake Di Zhe off but Di Zhe clung to him like stubborn chewing gum, sticking close no matter what. In the midst of their pushing and pulling, he forcefully stuffed the love letter into Shen Yandong’s hands.
Shen Yandong said, “Don’t give it to me. I don’t want it.”
Di Zhe replied, “Giving it to you is my business. What you do with it is your business. If you don’t want it, just throw it away.”
That was outright shameless behavior.
Shen Yandong had always been thin skinned and well mannered. Even though he thought Di Zhe was completely ridiculous, he simply couldn’t bring himself to do something as rude as throwing away someone’s love letter right in front of them.
So he could only stand there awkwardly, holding the crumpled letter in his hand, feeling both annoyed and embarrassed.
Di Zhe, however, didn’t give him any chance to return it.
The moment he saw Shen Yandong hesitate, he bolted away as if he had just tossed a bomb and was making a quick escape. As he ran, he even turned back to blink mischievously, grinning shamelessly as he shouted, “Shen Yandong, it’s okay if you won’t accept me right now! But when the day comes that you want to fall in love, come find me!”
“I’ll be waiting for you!!!”
“I’m going to be your Pursuer Number One!”
“When you finally feel how sincere my heart is and the day comes that you want a relationship, I’m applying to be the first one to become official!!!”
Di Zhe had already run far away yet his laughter and voice still echoed behind him.
The students who had been watching the commotion from the teaching building burst into loud laughter.
For Shen Yandong, who had always upheld the belief that a gentleman’s friendships should be as light and pure as water, he had never experienced anything so embarrassing before.
He had always observed the world with detached indifference. This was the first time he had been suddenly dragged into the chaos of worldly affairs, caught completely off guard and left covered in dust.
Lowering his head, he looked at the love letter in his hand. He could almost hear the voice inside his own heart, he had never felt such a strong sense of disturbance before.
Di Zhe.
Di Zhe.
Di Zhe.
Fine.
He had remembered that name now.
His thoughts were tangled in confusion.
Meanwhile, Di Zhe’s group of followers stood at a corner of the teaching building, faint teasing smiles hanging at the corners of their mouths. Their gazes followed Di Zhe until he disappeared around the corner, then slowly withdrew.
As they spoke quietly among themselves, they watched Shen Yandong’s retreating figure gradually grow more distant.
“Haha, the boss got rejected again. I bet this time he won’t last more than a week before giving up,” one of the younger followers said with a laugh. “Boss really is the most alpha alpha in our school. He falls out of love just as quickly as he falls into it.”
“How can you say it like that?” another one replied. “That’s called being a real man, able to pick things up and put them down.”
They were chatting happily when suddenly they heard a familiar set of footsteps thumping rapidly up the stairs. Soon enough, Di Zhe rushed up to them.
He had great stamina. Even after sprinting up three flights of stairs in one breath, he barely seemed out of breath at all.
Di Zhe had just steadied himself and was about to share with everyone how profound and extraordinary his new love interest was when they heard the homeroom teacher grab a random student and say, “You look pretty free. Go to the storage room and bring a new set of desk and chair.”
The student pulled a miserable face and hadn’t even agreed yet when Di Zhe suddenly darted forward, pushing him aside and presenting himself enthusiastically in front of the teacher. Raising his hand eagerly, he said, “Me, me, me! Teacher, I’ll go move it!”
He was actually fighting for the work?
The homeroom teacher didn’t think much about it and simply let him go.
Di Zhe dashed away happily, practically bouncing with excitement. As he rubbed his hands together, he said, “I remember the storage room in the building next door has some brand new desks and chairs purchased this year. I’m going to pick out the very best set for my future wife!”
“Moving a desk can make him this happy?” the followers muttered among themselves, their eyes filled with curiosity and confusion. “Looks like the boss doesn’t plan on giving up this time.”
“This one will definitely last more than a week. I’d say at least half a month,” one of them teased.
“I’m betting a month,” another chimed in.
“I’ll bet two months,” a third said even more boldly.
At that time, none of them could have imagined that every single one of their guesses would be wrong.
Because this time, Di Zhe’s pursuit of Shen Yandong would last for two entire years.
