The president’s office?
Shen Shiyan’s office?!!
Why on earth would Shen Shiyan be looking for an ordinary employee from the business department?
Could it be that he recognized her? Is he calling her in to settle accounts? But the whole day has already passed—why didn’t he say something earlier?
Just as she had managed to calm her nerves a little, Qin Nuan’s heart began to hammer wildly all over again.
Qin Nuan wanted to avoid going up to the 42nd floor a million times over, but she didn’t dare refuse.
Unless she didn’t want this job anymore.
Seeing her walk out looking like she was heading to her own execution, Zhao Meihua couldn’t help asking: “Little Qin? Where are you going? It’s almost quitting time.”
Qin Nuan forced out a smile that looked worse than crying. Not wanting anyone to know that Shen Shiyan had called for her, she lied: “I’m going to see President He. He just called me up a moment ago.”
With a belly full of anxiety, Qin Nuan arrived at the 42nd floor. The moment she stepped out, Li Yue was already waiting for her by the elevator, robbing her of any chance to escape. He still wore that same standard, polite smile she had seen in the elevator that morning.
“Miss Qin, you’re here. President Shen is waiting for you inside his office.”
Qin Nuan’s palms were actually sweating profusely with tension by now. She opened and closed her mouth several times, unsure of what to say, and could only follow Li Yue toward the president’s office.
Aside from the president’s secretariat, the entire 42nd floor belonged to the president’s office suite, making it look spacious and dead quiet.
Before stepping inside, Qin Nuan ultimately couldn’t hold back and asked Li Yue: “Assistant Li, may I ask… do you know what President Shen wants with me?”
Having worked by Shen Shiyan’s side for many years, Li Yue was airtight in everything he did: “I’m not entirely sure myself. Miss Qin will find out once you go in.”
Her attempt to fish for information failed, so Qin Nuan could only trudge forward dejectedly to knock on the door. She only dared to push it open after hearing a low “Come in” from within.
Once inside, she saw Shen Shiyan standing sideways by the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, one hand tucked into his pocket as he talked on the phone. He didn’t stop just because she entered; he merely glanced at her sideways, then resumed listening intently to whoever was on the other end, occasionally offering a cool “Mn.”
Naturally, Qin Nuan didn’t dare interrupt him and stood quietly to the side.
As she waited for a moment, Qin Nuan inadvertently drifted into a trance.
Her gaze slowly traveled up from the carpet beneath her feet to land on the man standing before the French windows.
Shen Shiyan had already taken off his suit jacket, wearing only a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing a section of sharply defined, wheat-toned forearms.
The floor-to-ceiling windows behind him reflected the skyline of Capital City. The sunset spilled in through the glass, making his tall figure look even more upright and imposing, his long, clean fingers clutching his smartphone.
Qin Nuan froze in a daze.
It was these exact hands that had gripped her waist that night, pressed down on her wrists, and wreaked such havoc on her body that she had wanted to bite him in sheer frustration.
Yet right now, he was simply holding a phone, acting as if nothing at all had happened.
It wasn’t until Shen Shiyan finished his call and turned around.
The very first second he looked at Qin Nuan, Shen Shiyan’s gaze lingered on her face for half a second—lightly, and fleetingly.
He was holding a file folder in his hand, which contained precisely Qin Nuan’s resume.
Seeing that she seemed spaced out, Shen Shiyan frowned slightly, tapping his slender fingers twice against the desk.
“Miss Qin.”
His voice wasn’t heavy, but Qin Nuan snapped back to reality instantly, her face turning crimson red.
What time is it, and you’re still thinking about those things?!
“P-President Shen!” Qin Nuan flushed bright red, awkwardly asking: “Did you need something, calling me up here?”
She clung to one last shred of fantasy—that Shen Shiyan hadn’t recognized her and had summoned her for some other legitimate business.
However, Shen Shiyan clearly had no intention of playing dumb with her.
She watched as he removed the non-prescription glasses from the bridge of his nose and placed them unhurriedly on the desk, revealing a pair of ink-dark eyes as he cut straight to the point:
“Miss Qin, the night before last at the Imperial Capital Hotel… the person in my room was you, wasn’t it?”
