Chapter 9: The Riot Begins!

Magellan Blocks the Way!

Level Four beneath the surface of Impel Down—Blazing Hell.

This was where Chief Warden Magellan’s office was located.

At the moment, Magellan was sleeping soundly on his soft bed.

Thanks to the side effects of the Venom-Venom Fruit, he spent ten hours a day sitting on the toilet with diarrhea.

Out of what little time remained, another four hours had to be devoted to official duties.

That didn’t leave much time for rest.

Even so, Magellan made absolutely certain to get eight hours of sleep every day.

He treasured his sleeping hours.

Unfortunately, tonight his pleasant dreams were shattered by a sudden shrill ringing.

“Hm?” Magellan frowned and sat up with an irritated expression.

After staring blankly for two seconds, he finally reached over and picked up the Transponder Snail sitting on his bedside table.

Because Magellan’s entire body was poisonous, even his personal Transponder Snail wore a specially designed gas mask.

He answered the call.

“What is it?” “Chief Warden!

Something seems to have happened on Level Six!” The first sentence from the other end instantly erased every trace of sleepiness from Magellan’s mind.

“All the Transponder Snails on Level Six have lost their signals!” “What?” …

A short while later.

Level Five—Freezing Hell.

Nate calmly looked over the several dozen prisoners gathered in front of him.

There were men and women, young and old, all of them trembling violently from the cold.

There weren’t many prisoners on this floor either.

Or rather, there weren’t many still alive.

Frozen corpses were far more common.

Even World’s body, which had already spent more than twenty years as a human popsicle, found the cold painfully piercing.

“Freeze to death here, or break out with us.” Nate spoke casually.

“Which do you choose?” The prisoners didn’t hesitate for even a second.

Fanatical light burned in every pair of eyes.

“Please let us follow you, our savior!!” “Savior?” Nate’s lips twitched slightly.

“Fine.

Let’s go.” Once they reached Level Four, fighting would probably become unavoidable.

Several dozen people packed themselves into the large elevator.

It was cramped, but everyone barely managed to fit.

With a deep mechanical rumble, the elevator continued upward.

Yet when it finally stopped at Level Four, the heavy steel doors remained firmly shut.

“My lord, it seems they’ve noticed us.” Solt’s fleshy face twisted into a bloodthirsty grin.

“That was inevitable.” Nate remained calm.

“Prepare to fight.” “Gladly!

Open up!” Anthony, the muscular former general who had once attempted to seize control of his country, leaped forward.

His right arm turned pitch-black with Armament Haki.

Then he drove his fist into the steel doors.

BOOM!

A massive dent appeared in the reinforced metal.

With another deafening crash, the entire pair of doors was blasted straight out of its frame.

“My lord.” Anthony stepped aside, bowed, and gestured respectfully for Nate to proceed first.

As expected of someone who had once been a government official.

He certainly knew how to read the room.

Nate strode out of the elevator.

Dark, oppressive colors filled his vision.

The scorching heat rolling toward him immediately caused sweat to bead across World’s body.

Along with the heat came chaotic screams and battle cries.

Not far away, several Jailers were already fighting prisoners dressed in prison uniforms.

“Hm?” Solt stared past Nate in surprise.

“Level Four is already in chaos too?

My lord, is this also your doing?” “Let’s go.” Nate took the lead.

“We need to find the elevator to the upper floors.” When he’d ordered the Level Six prisoners to free everyone on Level Five, Nate had also sent part of his consciousness into Buckingham’s body.

After releasing her, he’d instructed her to free the prisoners on Level Four.

“I’ll clear the way for you!” Solt instantly turned into a blur.

In the blink of an eye, he reached the battlefield ahead.

His speed was far beyond what the Jailers could react to.

He casually snatched a sword from one of them.

Then the slaughter began.

Solt moved so quickly it looked as though he’d used Shadow Clone Jutsu.

More than a dozen Solts seemed to swing their blades simultaneously.

The Jailers were cut down almost instantly, blood spraying everywhere as severed limbs flew through the air.

‘He’s seriously fast.’ Nate couldn’t help admiring him.

‘Much faster than I am.’ Every Devil Fruit deserved respect.

Well…

‘Except ordinary Zoans.’ ‘Don’t misunderstand.

This isn’t Devil Fruit discrimination.

I just have a personal dislike for extremist animal-rights activists.’ “Hands up, criminals!” At an intersection to the side, a squad of heavily armed Jailers rounded the corner and immediately spotted Nate’s group.

Every weapon was raised toward them.

“Hahahaha!

Leave these ones to me, my lord!” Anthony roared and launched himself forward.

Dense brown fur rapidly spread across his body.

By the time he crashed down, the man who had already stood over three meters tall had transformed into a colossal bear nearly twenty meters long.

BOOM!

The impact of his landing alone crushed the Jailers beneath him.

Nate continued forward with the others, heading toward Buckingham’s position.

The old woman wasn’t particularly powerful, but she was still a scientist.

More importantly, she was basically Weevil’s remote control.

She remained quite useful.

They defeated several more groups of Jailers along the way.

At the same time, dozens more prisoners joined their growing force.

Nate didn’t refuse them.

Prisoners capable of surviving Level Four were at least somewhat strong.

“Clang-clang-clang!” One man stepped in front of Nate.

His arms fused together and transformed into an enormous shield.

Gunfire poured toward them from the distant Jailers, but the bullets couldn’t leave so much as a scratch.

“Salt-Salt Shot!” Another prisoner, a thin man, clapped his hands together.

White salt rose around him like a swirling wind.

It rapidly condensed into countless razor-sharp arrows.

A moment later, they rained down like a storm.

The Jailers were instantly riddled with holes.

Nothing managed to slow the group’s advance.

Nate raised his head.

Ahead lay a wide bridge.

Below it churned a bubbling pool of blood.

‘If I remember correctly, this is where Luffy first fought Magellan in the original story.’ Beyond the bridge should be the passage leading toward the upper floor.

“HELP!!” A shrill scream suddenly rang out.

A short figure came stumbling and rolling across the bridge toward them.

“MOM!!” Weevil immediately shouted in excitement.

“Hydra!” Behind the fleeing Buckingham, a massive purple dragon shot forward through the air.

It was about to swallow her whole.

“MOM!!” When his beloved mother was involved, even the normally slow-witted Weevil reacted without the slightest hesitation.

His thin legs exploded with strength.

He launched himself forward like a cannonball.

His right arm, still not fully recovered from being broken by Zephyr, swung toward the approaching dragon.

“IMPACT!!” The air instantly began to tremble.

A translucent shockwave surged forward like a violent gale.

The incoming Hydra was blown apart in an instant, scattering huge amounts of purple venom across the bridge.

Edward Weevil.

A Paramecia-type Impact-Impact Fruit user.

His ability allowed him to release tremendously powerful shockwaves.

“Weevil!” Buckingham leaped joyfully into her son’s arms.

“You scared the hell out of me!” After releasing a large number of prisoners, Buckingham had originally planned to slip upstairs before Level Four descended into complete chaos and wait for Nate’s group there.

Unfortunately, Magellan had been blocking the stairway and killing anyone who approached.

Every prisoner who’d shared Buckingham’s idea had already been taken down.

She alone had managed to escape.

“Where do you think you’re going, criminals?” Heavy footsteps echoed across the bridge.

A towering man dressed in pajamas slowly approached from the opposite end.

His expression was dark, while purple venom constantly dripped from his body.

“You attacked Mom!” Weevil instantly flew into a rage.

“I’M GONNA BEAT YOU INTO MEAT PASTE!” “Don’t be stupid, idiot son!” Buckingham hurriedly stopped him.

“This isn’t someone you can handle!” Her foolish son’s Haki was still far too weak.

He couldn’t defend himself against Magellan’s venom.

The moment it touched him, he would be finished.

Buckingham immediately turned around and shouted toward Nate.

“My lord!

Please!” “My lord, be careful!” Anthony had already returned to human form and was following behind Nate.

He lowered his voice cautiously.

“That’s Chief Warden Magellan.

He’s a Paramecia-type Venom-Venom Fruit user.

Whatever you do, don’t let his venom touch you!” Nate’s normally lazy gaze sharpened slightly.

‘There he is.’ ‘The final boss.’ “Hm?” Magellan stopped halfway across the bridge.

His eyes swept across the prisoners before finally settling on Nate, who stood naturally at the center of everyone’s attention.

“Byrnndi World?” Was he the mastermind behind this riot?

How had World broken free from the ice?

‘Was it because of that man who was just imprisoned on Level Six?’ The man’s mother had called World “my lord.” ‘Could freeing World have been the mother and son’s objective from the very beginning?’ Fortunately, the two most terrifying prisoners in Eternal Hell hadn’t been released.

Otherwise, Impel Down itself might have been turned upside down.

Magellan drew a deep breath.

His gaze toward the prisoners suddenly became razor-sharp.

“Criminals.” “There is a limit to how far I’ll allow this farce to go.” He raised his head.

“As Chief Warden of Impel Down, I hereby sentence every one of you to death.” His voice turned cold.

“Effective immediately.” Three enormous Hydras rose from behind him.

They towered over the bridge, poised to attack at any moment.

“UWAAAH!!” Several prisoners who had already experienced Magellan’s terrifying power cried out in fear.

“What the hell are you afraid of?!” Anthony truly had been a general once.

He spun around and roared at the others.

“Do you think surrendering now will save your lives?!” His body rapidly expanded again.

Within moments, he’d transformed into the enormous Cave Bear.

“Freedom is right behind him!” Anthony bared his fangs.

“TAKE HIM DOWN!” Nate couldn’t help turning to look at him.

‘Seriously?’ ‘Old habits from your previous job?’ ‘Wasn’t the pre-battle speech supposed to be my part?’ Then again, it hardly mattered.

“Die here…” Nate’s lips slowly curved upward as he stepped forward.

“…or seize your freedom.” “You decide.” Silence lasted for a heartbeat.

Then— “WE’RE DOING THIS!!” “TAKE HIM DOWN!!” “I’M GETTING OUT OF THIS DAMN HELLHOLE!!” Under the crushing pressure, more than twenty prisoners roared as one.

They surged past Nate from both sides and charged straight toward Magellan.

Nate watched them rush forward.

‘Oh.’ ‘Look at all that energy.’ …
