15: “Quick, stop him!” Seeing Zoro charging towards him, the Lieutenant Commander panicked.
When nobody moved to help, he gritted his teeth and drew his sword.
“I’ll fight you to the death!” Unfortunately for him, someone who had long since drowned in power and greed was no match for Zoro.
With a single exchange…
Zoro killed him instantly.
“And this guy was a Lieutenant Commander?” Sanji scoffed disdainfully.
“That’s all he had?” ‘To be cut down in one slash by some moss-headed idiot…
what a disgrace.’ “What’s that supposed to mean?” Zoro turned and glared at Sanji.
He had a feeling this bastard was indirectly insulting him.
“Nothing.” Sanji calmly flicked the ash from his cigarette.
“I’m just saying that if a Lieutenant Commander can be killed by you with one slash, he must have been incredibly weak.” Zoro thought about it for a second before reacting suddenly.
“You’re insulting me in a roundabout way, aren’t you?!” He immediately rolled up his sleeves, preparing to fight Sanji right there and then, leaving Usopp speechless.
“Hey, hey, we’re still inside enemy territory right now!” Meanwhile, Kain watched the whole thing with great interest.
As expected, these two really were comedic rivals.
“You came here to avenge Cocoyasi Village, right?” An older Marine finally found the courage to speak up.
“But we weren’t involved with Captain Nezumi.” “When he decided to do those things, we strongly opposed him.” “Oh?” Kain’s expression turned playful.
“Really?” “Yes.” The older Marine forced himself to continue.
“The people involved in those crimes were either blown up by your bombs earlier, or they died with Captain Nezumi.” Even the only remaining officer was cut down by this man.
“So…” “So you’re saying all of you are innocent?” Nami narrowed her eyes.
“Think carefully before you answer.” “Of course!” Seeing a chance to survive, the Marine became bolder.
“We’re all innocent.” “Otherwise, we wouldn’t still be ordinary soldiers here.” Surviving was all that mattered right now, no matter what.
The rest could be dealt with later.
Kain nodded as though he believed him.
“In that case, lead us there.
Don’t worry.
Once we’ve taken the treasure, we’ll leave.” “All right, please follow me.” The older Marine visibly relaxed.
Wanting money was a good thing.
They could just hand it over.
Sooner or later, the truth about this base would come out anyway.
Rather than keeping all this dirty money, they might as well hand it over to the pirates.
Then they could wash their hands of the matter entirely.
They might even get promotions and pay rises afterwards.
More importantly, attacking a Marine base was no small crime.
The Straw Hat Pirates’ bounty would definitely skyrocket after this!
Hopefully, Marine Headquarters would dispatch high-ranking officers to hunt them down.
Then the problems at this base could be completely erased!
It was a good plan.
Unfortunately, Kain had already seen through everything.
“This is the place.” The Marine pointed towards a large iron door.
“All the money that Captain Nezumi brought back is stored inside.” “Good.
You can leave now.” Kain waved casually, signaling for the Marine to leave.
The marine immediately ran off, as though a massive burden had been lifted from his shoulders.
“Move out!” Nami waved her hand grandly, her eyes filled entirely with belly signs.
“Everything in here belongs to me now!” “But we don’t even have the key.” Usopp looked awkwardly at the massive iron door.
“What’s the problem?” Kain waved dismissively.
“Stand back a little.” He placed a small bomb against the door and walked several steps away, softly muttering: “Explode!” “BOOM!” The iron door was instantly blasted open!
At that exact moment…
the glorious radiance of money burst outward.
Well…
at least from Nami’s perspective.
Watching her charge inside like a crazed treasure addict, Usopp sighed helplessly.
“How much does this girl love money?” “Considering everything she went through, it’s normal for her to love money,” Kain replied casually.
Then he suddenly realized that something was wrong.
“Wait…
where did Luffy go?” “And where’s Zoro?” ‘Weren’t they just behind them a second ago?’ ‘How had they disappeared in the blink of an eye?’ “Did that moss-headed idiot get lost again?” Sanji asked the question before bursting into laughter.
“How does someone even manage that?” ‘He got lost despite having someone leading the way?’ That was seriously ridiculous.
“Luffy probably wandered into the cafeteria of this Marine base,” Usopp guessed uncertainly.
“The only things that can attract Luffy are interesting stuff or food.” “Fair point.” Kain looked speechless.
“Forget about them.” “Hurry up and come look!” Nami shouted from inside.
“There’s so much money in here!” “There’s at least several hundred million Belly!
And there are countless gold and silver treasures too!” Kain walked inside after hearing this, but the moment he could see everything clearly, his expression darkened.
“How many villages did they have to exploit to gather this much treasure?” At that moment, Kain became even more determined to blow this place apart!
The others also fell silent upon hearing this.
“Well…
not necessarily.” Sanji took a drag from his cigarette.
“Some of it might have been seized from pirates.
But no matter what, all this money belongs to us now.” After all, if the pirates left it behind, the remaining Marines would eventually divide it among themselves anyway.
In that case, they might as well take advantage of it.
Especially since they were currently broke and still needed money to buy supplies once they reached Loguetown.
“That’s true.” Nami nodded before grandly waving her arm.
“Move all this money onto our ship!” Everything here belonged to her now!
She had once been a victim, too.
So there was absolutely nothing wrong with her taking this money, right?!
