"Cheers! To all of us!"
A whole week had spun by since Gil-kun and Luce-san's magical debut. They had formally taken the Guild Master's examination and, having managed to perfectly recreate that astonishing feat of theirs, were now proudly certified as Silver-class adventurers. As it happens, I had also formally joined the ranks of the Silver-class a little while before them.
"My, oh my, to see those two, who were so tiny, grow up! Your big sister here is just tickled pink!" Milia-san declared, already looking quite merry.
"Milia, are you completely gone already, big sis?" Raid-kun cautioned her, though his face was practically bursting with happiness for the two, too.
We were holding a small, cheerful celebration at the 'Clan' Inn.
"Even so, you two young rascals! The Matron was terribly worried about you not showing your faces at the orphanage enough!" Milia-san scolded them, wagging a finger.
"Oh, give us a break, Milia-nee!" Gil-kun pleaded.
"We were stuck in Bronze Class, y'see... We couldn't really send money back like Big Bro Raid or Milia-nee can," Luce-san admitted, a sheepish look on her face.
The two answered looking genuinely embarrassed.
"Well, if you worry her in the end, then all that care is wasted, isn't it?" Raid-kun pointed out with a sigh.
"Now, now, let's keep things pleasant," I interjected, trying to smooth things over. I steered the conversation to safer waters, asking about the orphanage's latest happenings.
"Speaking of which, are the children all getting along now?" I asked.
At my question, Gil-kun and Luce-san turned their gazes my way.
"Yes, I suppose so. I think they were a little confused at first, though," Gil-kun pondered.
"But now, those little uniforms... they're the envy of every child in this town!" Luce-san chimed in, a sparkle in her eye.
After Mr. Carmen had demanded an expansion of the foot massage service, we had all met again—the Guild Master, the acting Town Mayor, and the Matron—to talk it over. To extend the days and hours, we had increased the number of children participating, prioritizing those from low-income families.
We had initially set a week as the service cycle, operating the foot massage on the first, second, fourth, and fifth days. We then added the previously closed third, sixth, and seventh days as operating days, staffed by the new children.
Children are considered a labor force in this world. Furthermore, even among the poor, some parents were hesitant to have their children work alongside the orphans. To address this, we began gathering all the children at the orphanage for a shared meal before they headed to the public bathhouse.
This arrangement ensured the children were fed meat and fish, and the positive word-of-mouth about the clean, proper facility spread back to the parents through their own kids. Now, the Matron even acts as a counselor to the parents of these new young staff members.
The only real consequence was that I had to increase the amount of game and fish I delivered to the orphanage, but that was a small, unavoidable price to pay.
"Still, I just can't believe it. Silver Class... that's us," Gil-kun mumbled, shaking his head.
"Gil was crying when he reported it to the Matron, you know!" Luce-san giggled, teasing him.
Ms. Rivera is like a mother to them, and I could practically picture the scene in my mind.
"But hold on, you two are Silver Class, just like me, right? I'm still having you carry my baggage... I mean, I appreciate the help, but is that really alright?" I asked, feeling a little bad about making the newly-promoted adventurers continue to haul game and fish for me.
"Oh, but we're a special case, y'see," Gil-kun explained.
"It's conditional on the two of us working together, so the pay is split—one person's share for two of us," Luce-san finished, both looking a bit awkward.
Ah... I realized, feeling I'd put my foot in my mouth. Silver-class adventurers are usually granted ten gold coins a month from the Guild. They, however, were considered a single unit and were only receiving five coins each.
In that case, my request for four gold coins a week, which amounted to sixteen gold coins a month, was still a hugely attractive offer for them.
"Besides, it's an assignment with The Giant Boar Slayer..." Gil-kun stammered.
"...I mean, is there really a safer, easier job out there?" Luce-san trailed off, her eyes darting away.
"You two, your eyes are swimming all over the place!" Milia-san chastised the pair whose eyes were flitting in completely opposite directions.
"Well, no matter what, you've both made something of yourselves. Now hurry up and couple up, and give the Matron some peace of mind," Raid-kun declared.
At Raid-kun's blunt suggestion, Gil-kun and Luce-san promptly spat out the alcohol they were drinking.
"Wh-What are you saying, Big Bro?!" Gil-kun cried out.
"W-W-W-Me and Gil?! Never!" Luce-san squeaked.
Milia-san saw her chance and jumped right into the fray.
"Oh, really now? Raid didn't say who should couple up, did he?"
Milia-san was thoroughly drunk on the power of the situation... Good, keep it up! I thought, highly amused.
And so, the banquet carried on, fueled by good cheer and the teasing of the two 'new' Silver-class adventurers.
* * *
"Right then, Luce and I are heading back to the orphanage now," Gil-kun announced after a while.
"Shin-san, we'll see you on the next work day... Milia-nee, Raid-niichan, good night," Luce-san waved.
The two 'juniors' departed first.
"Well, I've got some work left at the Guild, too..." Milia-san muttered, then she also left the inn.
Only Raid-kun and I remained.
We continued to drink for a while, swapping stories about our recent lives and talking about the two freshly promoted adventurers. Then, a question popped into my head, and I tossed it at him.
"Speaking of which, Raid-kun... what about you and Milia-san?" I asked.
At my words, Raid-kun froze instantly.
Oh, blast it all. I got carried away because of the alcohol, I worried. But before I could apologize, he grabbed the drink in his hand and chugged it down in one go.
"I am so glad you asked, my friend! Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that, Shin-san!" he exclaimed, his eyes bloodshot.
"M-Me? You want my advice?" I stammered, overwhelmed by the intensity of his stare. Without any say in the matter, I was now fully committed to hearing his plea.
* * *
"O-Okay, I understand. If that's the way it is... I'll try to think of something. My work finishes in the evening, so I can meet you after that. Let's start tomorrow."
"It's a promise!" he declared.
After about an hour, finally released from his deep, passionate consultation, I called out to the proprietress in the kitchen to ask for some water.
"Did Raid finally go home? It's really rare for him to drink so much, especially Milia, who usually handles her liquor much better," Proprietress Clara Age said, sighing with an exasperated smile while surveying the wreckage of the feast.
I figured he must have been overjoyed that the two who were like his younger siblings had been promoted to Silver Class... and Milia-san was just a dedicated drinker, I supposed.
"But I never thought I'd be cooking so much bird and fish! I feel like a royal chef in the capital!" The proprietress remarked, speaking almost to herself as she cleared the plates.
"That reminds me... You said that bird and fish were rare, but you know how to process them, and you cook them well. Was there someone who brought in game before I came to town?" I asked, thinking that if that person had left, it would explain the current scarcity.
She quickly raised a hand and waved it vertically in front of her face, slicing the air from side to side.
"No, no. Sometimes, people with magic who can hunt those things come from this town, but they usually head straight for the capital. Occasionally, a lucky hunter will pass through from the outside, maybe resting before heading to the capital or meeting a lord. They bring in their catch on a whim and sell it in town. But that happens, oh, three times a year, tops. That's why someone like you is so incredibly rare."
I see. When I thought about it, Ms. Rivera at the orphanage had accepted the game easily, so the opportunity must have existed before.
"Well, I doubt you'll be able to hunt birds or fish once winter hits, so you'd better bring in lots while you can, lad."
I froze at her words. Sweat beaded on my forehead, and a wave of anxiety washed over me.
"Eh? There's winter here?"
"Of course there's winter! Honestly, where do you people come from? It's not even summer yet, so that's still a long way off," she said, exasperated, gathering the cups and plates from the table and heading back to the kitchen.
Oh, this is bad... I thought. Looks like I've got my own homework to do.
For now, though, I needed to focus on Raid-kun's situation. I would worry about winter after that was settled.
I somehow managed to drag my drunken feet toward my room and collapsed onto the bed.
* * *
About ten days later, at the Adventurer's Guild training field, a young, brown-skinned man stood opposite a muscular, gray-haired, elderly man. They were about the same height, with the younger man slightly taller, but even a casual observer could tell the massive difference in their combat strength just by looking at their physiques.
"Raid! Are you serious?! You're not a combat type like I am!" Milia-san shouted from the sidelines, her voice tight with worry.
Gil-kun and Luce-san, standing beside her, looked on with visible anxiety.
"Raid, this is my final warning. Are you truly going to have a mock battle with me? You are not a combat type. Yet, you wield magic that more than makes up for that. But there is a role for every eye and every ear, lad. Stop this foolishness. You'll only end up humiliating yourself," Jan-san, the Guild Master, advised Raid-kun in a deeply paternal voice.
Raid-kun's answer was simple: "...I humbly request your instruction, Guild Master."
Hoo, the Guild Master exhaled lightly, then brandished his longsword, his weapon of choice. Just as one might expect him to, Raid-kun also took a stance, and a low murmur went through the crowd.
"Oi, what's that thing Raid's holding?"
"It looks like it's made of wood, but..."
The sharp-eyed spectators noticed the weapon in his hands. Milia-san's eyes followed their gaze to the object.
"Is that... the weapon Shin-san taught Raid? But the Guild Master is a pure combat type! He's a specialist! I don't think simply changing weapons or magic will be enough..." she fretted.
The Guild Master certainly wouldn't intend to seriously injure Raid-kun, but even discounting that possibility, the very idea of this matchup was utterly hopeless and unthinkable to them.
"Hey, what do you reckon?"
"Nah, I can't say. If The Giant Boar Slayer is involved again..."
"But even so, come on..."
Even after witnessing the miracle of Gil-kun and Luce-san, the crowd's reactions confirmed their deep doubt.
"Milia-san, I know you're worried, but you have to put your faith in him now," I reassured her.
On the training ground, the two men began to increase the distance between them, each assessing the other's next move.
"Shin-san! I've heard the story, but does Big Bro Raid truly have a chance to win?" Gil-kun pleaded.
"We at least had offensive magic, but Big Bro Raid only has..." Luce-san worried.
Raid-kun's usable magic was limited to enhanced movement speed, wide-range sensing, and stealth. Since they were fighting on flat, open ground, the stealth was completely nullified from the start.
"Raid-kun can also use Wind Magic... and that's what we're going to utilize this time."
"No way!" Milia-san cried out, a horrified shriek escaping her before I could even finish my explanation. Gil-kun and Luce-san made no attempt to hide their fearful expressions.
It was true that he could use Wind Magic, but it was even weaker than the basic level of Wind, Fire, or Water that the Guild Master could use. At best, Raid-kun could generate a mere breeze, like a light sigh of wind.
"Just watch, please. The Wind Magic is only a supplement. The real question is how effective he can be against the Guild Master."
Of course, I wasn't expecting his pitiful Wind Magic to do anything substantial. It was merely a cover story, a way to make the technique plausible under the pretense of 'using magic.'
Suddenly, Raid-kun's speed increased. He wasn't closing the distance; he was beginning to run in a sweeping circle around the Guild Master. As he ran, he hurled two of the weapons—one from his left hand, one from his right—toward Jan-san.
"Using rapid mobility for a mid-range projectile attack, eh? Not a bad tactic. But—"
The Guild Master didn't even bother to parry or block; he simply ducked and shifted, avoiding them effortlessly. The weapons whizzed past his immediate presence, crossing paths in the air before arcing upward, spinning into the sky.
"Raid-kun, don't stop! Keep moving!"
"Got it, big bro!" he yelled back.
Following my shouted advice, he drew the next weapons from the belt slung around his waist and armed both hands again.
"Keeping a fixed distance while maintaining movement and throwing projectiles... It is a decent strategy."
Raid-kun wasn't just running in a constant circle; he was varying his speed and changing his distance, looking for an opportunity to strike.
"But I am Gold Class, lad. No matter how many of those you throw, it will be pointless!" Jan-san warned.
"...How about if they're simultaneous?" Raid-kun challenged.
Again, two of the wooden weapons were thrown simultaneously from Raid-kun's hands.
"I told you, two shots won't be enough... —!"
Unlike before, where he had moved minimally to dodge, the Guild Master quickly dropped his body, launching himself forward in a powerful tackle-like movement that kicked up the dirt.
"Eh?" Milia-san gasped softly in astonishment.
At that exact moment, the first weapon that had been thrown earlier slammed into the spot on the ground where the Guild Master had stood a moment before! Then, just as the Guild Master moved, the two weapons Raid-kun had just thrown spun high into the air, replacing the others.
"Wh-What the heck?!" Gil-kun shrieked.
"Shin-san! Is that the Wind Magic you taught Big Bro Raid?!" Luce-san joined the chorus of shock.
Yes, it was a 'magic' alright—but it was a weapon that almost anyone from Earth would recognize: the Boomerang.
I had him practice with the curved wooden object, convincing him that 'anyone who can use Wind Magic can do this.' His accuracy was only good enough to have it return to the general vicinity of where it was thrown, but to anyone who had never seen one, it was pure, unbelievable 'magic.' I could see the look of smug confidence drain from the Guild Master's face.
"H-Hey, no way!"
"Did that guy just use a homing attack?!"
A wave of amazement and chatter swept through the spectators, and the atmosphere of certain defeat for Raid-kun began to dissipate.
Raid-kun continued to circle, throwing two boomerangs at a time, two or three times more. The Guild Master continued to dodge, relying on his superb body control and movements. Since Raid-kun was the one who threw them and could use the wide-range sensing magic, he always knew where the boomerangs were. Jan-san, on the other hand, was likely relying on the subtle sound of the wind, his sixth sense for combat, and his years of experience to react.
"That's amazing... The Guild Master is on the defensive!"
"Hey, this... this might actually go his way!"
The boomerangs were not unlimited, but since Raid-kun was much faster than Jan-san, he could constantly retrieve and reuse them. However, the magical energy he used for the speed enhancement was also limited. If even one hit landed, the tide would turn, but this was a Gold-class adventurer. He wasn't going to lose easily.
But if he keeps up the offense, he's bound to find a way, I thought, just as it happened.
"H-He's stopping?!" Gil-kun cried.
"Big Bro Raid?!" Luce-san joined in the surprise.
Raid-kun's feet unexpectedly stopped, and the training field fell silent as the two men stared at each other, as if time itself had paused. His younger siblings stared, aghast.
"Raid?! Why did you stop—"
In the middle of her question, Milia-san's eyes widened to the size of saucers. Her gaze was fixed...
"...He got him, didn't he?" I muttered aloud.
As expected of a battle-hardened veteran.
Scattered across the training field were numerous wooden fragments. Objects that used to be boomerangs. While dodging the attacks, he had systematically destroyed the fallen boomerangs so they couldn't be retrieved and reused. I have to hand it to him.
However, the Guild Master was also showing clear signs of fatigue. Raid-kun had definitely put up a much better fight than anyone expected.
"Despite getting Shin's instruction... I honestly didn't expect you to do this well, lad. It's enough. You, who are not even a combat type, have done all this. No one will blame you. Surrender now."
The crowd fell silent, their quiet assent confirming that they had no objection to the Guild Master's ruling.
"Raid! That's enough! You did wonderfully! Just as the Guild Master says, surrender!" Milia-san pleaded, her voice ringing with appreciation for his efforts, urging him to stop. Raid-kun remained stubbornly silent.
"Raid! Are you refusing to listen to me?!"
"...Raid, you know the truth of it. You cannot use your Body Reinforcement to defend yourself. Don't be foolishly stubborn. Stop this. No one here will call you a coward," Jan-san insisted.
At Jan-san's words, the training field became even quieter.
The reason why Milia-san, Gil-kun, and Luce-san were so desperate and negative about this simple 'mock battle' was this fact. Most people in this world could use Body Reinforcement to some degree. However, special types—like Raid-kun and Milia-san—who specialize in support and indirect magic, often have some kind of severe limitation as a drawback.
In Raid-kun's case, he had no defensive reinforcement at all. This was considered a fatal flaw in combat. It meant that even if he wasn't risking his life, he was constantly risking a serious, crippling injury. For someone like him to engage in combat was utterly unheard of in this world. The Guild Master would certainly hold back, but accidents can happen.
Under the agonizing gaze of Milia-san, whose worry must have been at its peak, Raid-kun slowly pulled a boomerang from the inside of his jacket.
"...Shin-san. I'm going to use my 'trump card', big bro!"
This one, unlike the others, was painted jet black. I had honestly hoped he wouldn't need to use it in front of a crowd.
Sensing his resolve to continue the fight, the onlookers began to murmur in confusion and chaos.
"—Idiot!" Jan-san roared, closing the distance instantly. He was clearly trying to end the fight quickly. Milia-san covered her face with both hands, and Luce-san buried her face in Gil-kun's chest.
But Raid-kun, who they thought would flee, charged forward to meet Jan-san's dash. They met in the center of the training field, kicking up a cloud of dust.
The movement stopped, the noise vanished, and as the situation became clear...
"......"
Milia-san peered through the gap between her fingers to confirm the scene.
There he was: the Guild Master, his hand tightly gripping the black boomerang, which was held in Raid-kun's hand right in front of the younger man's face. The spectators, realizing what had happened, raised their voices in a mixture of confusion and inquiry.
"Wh-What happened? What did Raid do at the end?"
"Nah, I think... The Guild Master stopped him just before he could do it."
"In that case..."
Clenching the fist that held the boomerang, Jan-san leaned in close to Raid-kun.
"So, lad? Do you wish to continue?"
"...I give up, big bro."
With the battle decided, a wave of cheers erupted from the crowd. But most of the applause and praise were not for the victor.
"Well done, Raid!"
"Not a combat type, and you still pulled that off!"
"You'll be the next Guild Master!"
The triumphant cheers were all for Raid-kun, who had fought an incredibly courageous and hard-fought battle.
"Even the 'trump card' wasn't enough... As expected of the Guild Master... wait?" I looked around, and Milia-san was nowhere to be seen. I looked down and saw her—hunched over, tears streaming from her eyes, shaking uncontrollably as she crumpled to the ground.
Gil-kun and Luce-san rushed to her side, supporting her, and led her into the facility to rest. I, too, entered the training field to meet the two men.
* * *
"Well, then... Shin-kun, thank you once again for assisting in the bolstering of our Adventurer's Guild's strength," Jan-san said, a mischievous twinkle in his eye, after the training area had been tidied up and Milia-san had finally calmed down. We were all gathered in the branch manager's office.
Raid-kun and Milia-san were sitting side-by-side in front of the Guild Master, with Gil-kun, Luce-san, and me seated on either side of them.
"Well, I have to say. This time, I was genuinely astonished."
"Don't just be astonished! I wish you had at least let me get a hit in, old man. Honestly..." Raid-kun grumbled, looking slightly put out at Jan-san's winner's smugness.
"I can't believe Big Bro could use a homing weapon!" Gil-kun exclaimed.
"Aww, and we just got promoted to Silver Class... Big Bro Raid's back is getting further away from us, you know!" Luce-san lamented.
The two who were like his younger siblings offered Raid-kun their sincere admiration in their own ways.
"...Shin-san."
"Y-Yes!" I squeaked, startled by Milia-san's intense, narrow-eyed glare.
"I appreciate all your help, Shin-san, but... could you please stop teaching this idiot dangerous things?"
"It's not his fault! I forced Shin-san to help me—oh." Raid-kun let it slip, and then instantly realized his mistake.
"Oh." I mirrored his realization.
The spotlight instantly shifted to him. "What was that? Start explaining, Raid."
I felt truly sorry for him as he stammered and sweated.
"Ah, well... You remember when that Glantz guy attacked the town before?" Raid-kun began.
"Well, it got me thinking... If I just had a way to fight, or at least stall for time, even if I wasn't a combat type... So I asked Shin-san if he could teach me something, just like he did for Gil and Luce."
Milia-san listened to both our explanations, her eyes tightly closed, wrinkles forming a severe furrow between her brows. The Guild Master wisely cut in.
"Don't be so hard on him, Milia. He was just thinking about the well-being of this town."
"And, Shin—was that weapon... no, that magic—from your village as well?" Jan-san inquired.
"Y-Yes, that's right. People who could use Wind Magic even a little bit often used them. It's the same principle as the ones you see, Guild Master, where they use a real object as a medium, rather than a raw magic shot."
Hmph, the Guild Master snorted, then launched into his analysis.
"The truth is, those things aren't meant for a one-on-one fight. Even if they're homing projectiles, the fight ends once the target is defeated. Raid was only able to keep escaping from me because of his speed."
"My apologies. I used this as a kind of test, a final touch for Raid-kun... I thought if he could even land one hit on Jan-san, it would give him confidence, so..."
Milia-san shot me a look so sharp it could cut glass. The Guild Master opened his mouth to advise her.
"Well, Milia. Since this is a good opportunity, why don't you take proper control of this idiot?"
"I'll do more than that! I'll put him back in line! Come on!" she commanded.
With incredible, almost impossible strength for a woman of her size, she grabbed Raid-kun by the scruff of his neck and began dragging him out of the room.
"W-Well, then, Shin-san, old man. Sorry for the trouble..." Raid-kun said, waving a hand as he was dragged away, and the sound of the door closing sealed his exit.
"Big Bro hasn't changed since he was in the orphanage," Gil-kun chuckled.
"Big Bro Raid can never beat Milia-nee, can he?" Luce-san smiled.
The Guild Master stood up and affectionately ruffled their heads.
"You two hurry on back to the orphanage as well. If the Matron hears about this, she might worry needlessly, so be sure to explain everything to her, understand?"
"Got it!"
"Oh, and we'll take the bird with us!"
Like children given an errand by their father, they left the room. I realized today was the day I delivered the poultry.
"Honestly, what an outrageous thing you've brought here... A weapon that comes back, eh? If you know the movement pattern, it's not hard to deal with, but I didn't realize how difficult a fight with absolutely no magical presence could be."
"Ah, so you figured it out?" I asked, impressed.
As expected of a Gold Class. He had seen through the core of the technique almost immediately.
"What I couldn't figure out was what Raid was trying to do at the end. That black one—how was it different from the others?"
"Well, about that..."
I then explained Raid-kun's 'trump card.' The boomerang wasn't special at all. It was just a different color. The only purposes of the color change were to make the opponent cautious—and for the unusual way he was supposed to use it:
It was meant to be used to strike the opponent directly with the hand that held it.
"...Huh?" Jan-san grunted.
"It's surprising how often people fall for it. It's truly a last-ditch effort, but... Didn't it make you hesitate, Jan-san?" I asked.
There's a term for it: taking the opponent by surprise. In close-quarters combat, suddenly throwing a punch while still gripping a weapon is an incredibly effective tactic. It's not something you'd normally be taught on Earth, either.
"You're right, it did... I couldn't decide whether he was going to throw it or attack me directly with it. Hmm, I see, indeed..."
But in the end, he blocked it with his bare hand anyway.
"Well, just keep that part a secret for now, if you would."
"Understood. But it seems I owe you a favor again."
"N-No, not at all."
"And one more thing. I bet Raid told you something along the lines of, 'I need the power to protect Milia, big bro!' didn't he?" Jan-san guessed, a shrewd look in his eye.
Whoa... Hearing it repeated word for word was beyond surprising—it was impressive.
However, that was the main reason I had agreed to help him. If he had just wanted to 'beat someone up,' I wouldn't have cooperated.
"Speaking of which, Milia-san is the same non-combat type as Raid-kun, right? Yet, she dragged him out with sheer force... Can she use Body Reinforcement for strength?" I wondered aloud.
"No, she should be even less capable of Body Reinforcement than Raid is..." Jan-san mused.
However, I had just seen with my own eyes a woman barely 160cm tall dragging away a man over 180cm tall by pure arm strength.
"That one... ever since they were kids, she's been invincible—or rather, overwhelmingly strong—only when it comes to Raid."
At that remark, the two men—one in his late forties, the other in his late fifties—lapsed into quiet thought.
"That's certainly a mystery," I said flatly.
"It is a mystery, isn't it?" Jan-san agreed flatly, and a light sigh escaped both of us.
Summary:
The newly minted Silver Class adventurers, Gil and Luce, celebrate with Shin, Raid, and Milia. Raid, driven by his desire to protect Milia from danger, asks Shin for a 'weapon' to overcome his combat handicap. Shin's 'Earth knowledge' is revealed as the Boomerang, which Raid uses to challenge the Gold-Class Guild Master, Jan. Though Raid loses, his clever use of the homing weapon earns him deep respect. The battle ends with a humorous, loving intervention from Milia, who drags the stubborn Raid away. The chapter closes on the inexplicable paradox of Milia's strength when dealing with Raid.
Character Insight:
Raid's core motivation is utterly focused on protecting Milia, willing to risk his life despite his dangerous combat handicap. Shin, always the pragmatist, uses his knowledge not for power but to empower his friends. Milia's intense worry reveals her deep, almost maternal-protective bond with Raid, which somehow manifests in impossible physical strength.
Behind the Scene:
The 'boomerang' is a perfect example of Shin's 'common sense' being seen as 'magic' in this world. The chapter establishes the true severity of Raid's lack of defensive magic, making his decision to fight a genuinely dangerous act. The lingering joke about Milia's inexplicable strength over Raid reinforces the light-hearted romance between them. The Guild Master is fully aware of the relationship dynamics.
Notes:
• Luce - A Bronze-class adventurer, also an orphanage graduate and very close friend of Gil. She specializes in Fire Magic, but can only 'manifest' flames without projection. She has flaxen hair tied in a braid at the back, short stature.
• Gil - A Bronze-class adventurer and recent graduate of the local orphanage. He specializes in Earth Magic (Stone Bullet), but its initial power is weak. He and Luce are close, almost like siblings. He has short hair, slender build, and looks unhealthy.
• Milia - The young receptionist at the Adventurer's Guild. She has short hair, tanuki-face like (cute), wears round glasses, and business attire.
• Raid - A young, 'normie' adventurer who gets saddled with the job of escorting Shin. He is carefree and friendly but is instantly put on edge by Jandou's ominous warning. He has short black hair, sun-tanned skin, and wears casual adventure gear.
• Shin - An average, middle-aged Japanese salaryman who prides himself on his common sense and average abilities. He was forcibly sent to a fantasy world by a God and granted the 'ability' to prevent anything 'outside his common sense' from occurring in his presence.
• Jan - The sturdy branch manager of the local Adventurer's Guild. He is short, has muscular build, and gray hair.
• Glantz - A notorious bandit known as 'Glantz the Bloody Axe Ogre' for his massive weapon and brute-force approach. He has muscular build, bushy beard and unkempt hair. He carries a massive, 3-meter axe, and Wears bandit gear.
