Dean looked at Yvaine.
She looked at him and then lowered her gaze, as she leaned towards him.
He genuinely had no idea what she was going to do, because no way after what he said to her, she was going to kiss him!
Then he felt her breath near his ear.
“I forgave you the moment you took a step toward me.”
Yvaine pulled herself back, as a soft smile spread over her face.
Dean watched her for a second before leaning closer again.
“You are allowed to blush here,” he whispered near her ear.
Yvaine’s eyes widened.
Her cheeks immediately turned bright red.
Dean pulled himself back, as he noticed it.
A mischievous smirk appeared on his face, as he spoke in a low voice, “Only you get to play everytime?”
Yvaine stared at him in disbelief, as he quietly laughed.
She lightly smacked his chest.
“Ouch!” Dean rubbed the spot dramatically, “That actually hurt.”
“You deserved it.”
He grinned, “Can I have one more?”
Yvaine narrowed her eyes at him, though the blush still hadn’t completely disappeared from her face.
“Who’s there?”
Both of them stiffened.
It was one of the girls.
Footsteps started to approach them.
Closer.
More closer.
Dean barely breathed, while Yvaine instinctively closed her eyes.
They were going to be caught.
Suddenly, someone knocked loudly on the locker room door.
A girl’s voice came from outside, loud enough for everyone inside to hear.
“Guys! Jacob Bennett is back!”
The reaction was immediate.
“WHAT?!”
“Jacob is back?!”
“No way!”
The girls completely forgot about whether they had been discussing.
Within seconds, footsteps rushed toward the entrance.
The door opened.
“Move, I wanna see him first!”
“Wait for me!”
They all hurried out of the locker room.
The door slammed shut behind them.
Dean peeked slowly through the gaps.
He waited for a few seconds, and then looked toward Yvaine and quietly signaled with his hand. The source of this chapter is g.com.
They’re gone.
Yvaine nodded, before stepping out from the behind.
Dean let out a quiet breath, “That was close.”
Yvaine smiled faintly, “Too close.”
They exchanged a quick glance before turning toward Miely’s locker.
“Okay,” Dean entered the code Vinyl had given him.
4… 5… 8… 9.
Dean slowly pulled the locker door open.
Both of them leaned closer.
Yvaine reached into the locker and pulled out a folded piece of paper.
Her eyes widened, “Dean…” She showed her the note, “Look.”
Dean glanced at it.
Yvaine pointed at the words, “It’s the same message- I waited for you.”
“Yeah the same sentence from the note found in the car,” he murmured.
Yvaine nodded slowly.
“What’s this?” Dean reached deeper into the locker and pulled out a sealed envelope.
Dean carefully opened it.
A photograph slipped out.
He caught it before it fell to the floor.
Both of them looked down.
It was an old family photograph.
Little Miley stood between a couple, probably her parents.
“That’s him,” Yvaine pointed at the man.
“That’s the man from the car.”
Yvaine noticed something folded inside the envelope, “There is a letter.”
Dean pulled it out.
The paper had been roughly folded.
Yvaine and Dean’s eyes moved across the letter.
Yvaine pointed, “Read the last line.”
Dean slowly read aloud, “If you are reading this, I might be already dead.” Dean glanced at Yvaine and then continued, “Don’t blame yourself for the divorce between your mother and me.”
Dean kept reading.
“You need to come here as soon as you can. I have something important for you. Something I should have told you a long time ago.”
14 Rosewood Drive,
Greenwich, Connecticut 06830.
“Maybe, someone knew Miley could be there.”
Dean looked at Yvaine.
He quickly folded the letter and slipped it inside his jacket.
“I’m going to check,” Dean said as he walked toward the door and carefully peeked through the gap of the door.
The hallway was all empty.
He glanced both ways before turning back, “Let’s go, Yvaine”
A thin, black diary was partially hidden behind a stack of papers near the back of the locker.
She slowly pulled it out.
“Dean…”
He looked at her, “Let’s go quickly.”
Yvaine held the diary in her arms, and shut Miley’s locker.
The two of them hurried out of the locker room.
At the end of the hallway, Joey was already waiting.
“Finally!” He looked at them.
“We found something,” Dean said.
The three of them quickly made their way toward the parking area.
Once they reached Dean’s car, Joey climbed beside Dean while Yvaine sat in the back.
Dean began explaining everything they had found.
“The same note from the car was inside Miley’s locker. There was also an old photograph.”
“The dead guy?”
Dean nodded, before he continued further, “And there was a letter. There is an address, and I and Yvaine think maybe Miley has gone there.”
Joey nodded, and then looked at Yvaine, who was quietly reading a diary, “Whose diary are you reading?”
Yvaine looked up towards them, “Miley’s.”
Dean turned back to face her, “You found this too?”
She nodded, “It was hidden under books.”
Joey awkwardly leaned back, while facing his face backward, “It’s hidden because…” He paused.
“It belongs to her personal life!”
Yvaine didn’t answer, instead she slowly opened the diary.
“This is the entry she wrote on the night she disappeared.”
Yvaine began reading.
I received this from Dad this morning.
After he passed away in a car accident a few days ago.
Maybe I will visit his house.
He was a good father, even though we weren’t blood-related.
He was an angel compared to Mr. Foster, my mom’s current spouse.
Joey’s expression changed, “Keep reading.”
Yvaine continued from another entry, “This one was written after she asked you out that night for dinner.”
She read aloud.
Finally, I mustered all my courage and asked Dean out for dinner.
It is all thanks to Vinyl.
She boosted my confidence in me!
Yvaine turned another page.
Her finger stopped at the final entry, “Now listen to this.”
Dean and Joey’s expression hardened.
After I saw the short play about father-daughter love, I suddenly had an urge to visit Dad’s house.
His place is thirty minutes away.
I guess I’ll go there, and return quickly, this way only I can enjoy dinner with Dean without any guilt in my mind.
Yvaine closed the diary, “She really went to his house.”
