Yvaine closed the diary, “She really went to his house.”
She looked at Dean and Joey.
Dean says, “I think we should go to Uncle Troy.”
Joey nodded immediately, “Yeah. He might be able to help us with Vinyl and Miley.”
Yvaine quietly nodded as well.
Dean started the engine and drove toward the police station.
The atmosphere inside the car was noticeably more serious than before.
A few minutes later, Dean pulled up near the entrance.
The moment the car stopped, all three stepped out and hurried inside.
Dean looked around, “He is there.”
Beside the reception desk stood Troy, flipping through a file while casually talking to another officer.
As soon as he noticed the three of them approaching, his eyebrows lifted.
“Well, well,” he leaned back against the desk with a grin.
“What’s up? I am seeing you two this early.”
Dean and Joey greeted him.
“Morning, Uncle Troy.”
“Good Morning, Uncle Troy.”
Troy looked between them before his gaze stopped on Yvaine, “And she? She came yesterday too.”
Dean gestured toward her, “She is our friend, Yvaine.”
Yvaine gave him a polite smile, “Hello, Mr. Troy.”
Troy chuckled, “You can call me uncle too.” He looked at Joey, “Her Mr. sounded as if I am forty years old.”
Joey chuckled, “Uncle, you are literally forty years old now.”
Troy acted dramatically angry as he looked at Joey, “I will arrest you if you claim this young man is old.”
The four of them chuckled.
“Actually, we have something important to tell you,” Dean interrupted.
Troy’s expression became slightly more attentive, “Yeah, speak.”
Dean glanced around the reception area, “Not like this.”
Troy immediately understood.
He turned toward the receptionist, “Bring four lattes…” Then he looked at Yvaine, “What will you take, little lady?”
“The same thing.”
Troy nodded, “Make it four, and bring them fast.”
The receptionist nodded.
The four of them started walking toward the hallway.
“Uncle Troy…”
“What?”
“Since when did you start drinking lattes? Last time I and Dean visited, you were giving us reasons to not like lattes!”
Troy grinned, “Nice observation. Maybe if I become one of you, that way I will know why three young adults just ran into a police station looking like they discovered a dead body.” This chapter is updated first at novelping(.)com.
The three of them exchanged a glance.
“…Why did you all go silent all of a sudden? You didn’t, right?”
“No.”
“No No.”
“No.”
“You three are so funny! Good,” Troy opened the door leading toward the office corridor.
“Come inside. Let’s hear whatever trouble you three have dragged into my day.”
The three of them walked inside and sat down.
“So…” Troy said while settling down in his chair.
The three of them exchanged glances.
Troy immediately noticed.
He leaned back in his chair and looked at each of them, “Relax. Just tell me what’s going on.”
Dean slowly reached into his jacket and placed the old photograph on the desk.
Troy frowned, “What’s this?”
He picked it up casually, and then he placed it back on the desk.
Suddenly something changed in his expression, he picked up the photograph again, and stared at it for a few seconds.
He stood up from his chair and walked toward the desk behind him.
He opened one of the files stacked there and began flipping through the pages.
He placed the picture next to the picture in the files.
His eyes moved between them, “Where did you get this?”
Dean opened his mouth, “From Miley’s loc–”
“Miley shared it with us,” Yvaine interrupted him.
Dean looked at her.
Troy closed the file and slowly returned to his chair, “Okay. I’m gonna keep that picture, if your friend, Miley doesn’t have any problem. May I ask, who is Miley?”
Dean answered, “She’s my classmate and,”
Joey added, “She’s gone missing.”
Troy’s expression became serious.
Yvaine leaned forward, “And we think she might be at his residence.”
Troy looked at him.
“That guy is her father?”
Joey nodded, “He is her ex-step father.”
“And you three came here because?”
Dean hesitated for a second, “Because we need your help.”
“With what?”
Dean took a breath, “Both Miley and Vinyl.”
Troy immediately understood, “Okay so you’re helping your friend to get out of here.”
“Can she be released?”
Troy shook his head, “Dean, there isn’t enough evidence. You three are making assumptions!”
“But she’s innocent.”
“I know what you all think, but assumptions aren’t enough. I need something solid,” Troy sighed.
A soft knock came from the door.
Troy looked toward the entrance, “Come in.”
The receptionist stepped inside, carrying a tray with four cups of latte, “Your drink, sir.”
“Perfect timing,” Troy pointed toward the desk.
“Put it here.”
The receptionist carefully placed the cups down before leaving.
Troy picked up one of the cups and took a sip.
Then he looked at the three of them, “You three also drink.”
Dean picked up his cup, “Uncle Troy–”
Troy raised a finger, “Go to the college after drinking this.”
Joey frowned, “But–”
“I’ll look into this.”
Yvaine quietly put the black diary at the desk in front of Troy.
“Now what’s this?” Troy’s eyes moved toward it.
“Miley’s diary.”
Troy looked at the three of them, “You three aspire to become a detective?!” Troy’s expression softened slightly, “Okay but this will be the last thing I am gonna hear from you three. What does it say?”
Yvaine opened the diary and turned to the final entry.
She pointed it towards him.
Troy started to read what was written.
I guess I’ll go there, and return quickly, this way only I can enjoy dinner with Dean without any guilt in my mind.
Troy slowly looked up to them.
He tapped those lines in the diary with his finger.
“This…”
He looked at the three of them.
“This can help a little.”
Dean puts forward the letter, “The address is written here.”
“I know that man’s address,” Troy’s eyes shifted towards the letter.
“But something is strange.”
“What?” Dean asked.
Troy said while pointing at the time written next to the last entry, “If according to this, Miley moved out of the campus after 8 pm. Why did her mother come to report us about her missing at 4 pm the next day?”
