Isadora Matthew was having a terrible night, Not terrible in the dramatic, life-changing kind of way.
Just the usual kind.
The kind where your professor gives you three assignments at once, your bank account looks like a personal insult, and your cat decides that your favorite pair of shoes would make an excellent scratching post.Again.
Isadora sighed as she walked down the quiet street, her bag hanging heavily from her shoulder.
“I’m going to kill you, Midnight.” Her phone buzzed, 2% battery.
“Of course.” She shoved it back into her pocket.
All she wanted was to get home, take a shower, eat something that wasn’t instant noodles, and sleep.
She was halfway through mentally planning her evening when she noticed something unusual.
A dark figure was lying near the side of the road.
Isadora slowed down.
Her first thought was to keep walking. Her second was that she should probably call someone.
Her third, Oh God.
She was already walking toward him.
“Sir?” No response, She crouched beside him.
The streetlight above them flickered, revealing a man dressed entirely in black.
Tall , His clothes were tornand There was blood on his shirt, A lot of it.
Isadora’s stomach twisted.
“Hey.” She carefully touched his shoulder.
Nothing.
Her medical instincts immediately took over, She checked his breathing.
Still there.
Pulse?it was Weak But present.
“Okay… okay.” She looked around.
The street was empty, No cars, No pedestrians and No one coming to help.
Just her And this stranger.
“This is exactly how people end up in horror movies,” she muttered.
The man’s eyes suddenly opened.
Isadora froze.
His eyes were an unnervingly sharp shade of green.
For a second, neither of them moved.
Then his hand shot toward her wrist.
Isadora nearly screamed.
“Don’t!” His grip was surprisingly strong for someone who looked half-dead.
“Who…” His voice was low and rough.
“Who sent you?” Isadora stared at him.
“Excuse me?” His eyes narrowed.
“Who sent you?” She blinked.
“I’m a medical student.” A pause.
“So?” “So I’m trying to save your life!” The man stared at her as if that answer made absolutely no sense.
Isadora sighed.
“Honestly, if you’re going to accuse the person treating you of being an assassin, at least let me finish before you bleed to death.” Isadora immediately felt her stomach twist.
Blood, Her biggest nightmare.
She swallowed hard and forced herself to breathe.
Don’t look at it, Just focus.’ Her hands trembled.
She hated blood, the smelland the sight of it.
But she was a medical student, She couldn’t just leave someone to die.
She pulled out the small medical kit she carried in her bag.
As she reached toward his wound— BANG!
The gunshot shattered the silence.
Isadora screamed.
Before she could even process what had happened, a strong arm wrapped around her waist.
The injured man moved with shocking speed.
He grabbed her by the hips and pulled her down against him.
“Get down.” “What!” “Bend down!” His voice was low and commanding.
Isadora barely had time to react before he forced her lower, shielding her with his body.
Another shot rang out.
BANG!
Her heart slammed against her ribs.
Someone is shooting at us.
She could barely breathe.
The man beneath her suddenly reached inside his jacket.
Isadora’s eyes widened.
Oh my God.
He pulled out a gun.
“You have got to be kidding me…” He raised himself just enough to look toward the direction of the shot.
Then, BANG!
His gun went off.
Silence.
The man who had been hiding in the distance staggered backward before collapsing to the ground.
Isadora stared in horror.
She couldn’t move.
She couldn’t even breathe.
The stranger slowly lowered his gun.
Then his eyes turned toward her.
Cold,Sharp and Dangerous.
“Who are you?” Isadora blinked.
“Me?” “Yes, you.” “I—I told you.
I’m a medical student!” His expression didn’t change.
“Who sent you?” “Are you serious?” His eyes narrowed.
“You followed me.” “No!
I found you!” “Liar.” Isadora’s mouth fell open.
“Excuse me?” He grabbed her wrist.
His grip was firm despite the blood loss.
“Tell me who sent you.” “Nobody sent me!” Her voice shook.
“I was going home, I saw you lying there, and because apparently I make terrible decisions, I decided to help you!” His stare remained fixed on her.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then his grip tightened.
“Don’t lie to me.” “I’m not lying!” Isadora tried to pull her wrist free.
“Let go of me!” He didn’t, His gaze became darker.
“If you’re working for them…” He paused.
The threat in his voice made the rest unnecessary.
Isadora’s eyes widened.
“I’m not working for anyone!” She yanked her hand away.
“And if you want to keep threatening the person who’s trying to save your life, feel free to bleed out.” something almost resembling amusement crossed his face.
Almost.
Then his expression suddenly changed.
His body swayed.
Isadora caught his shoulder.
“Hey…” He looked at her, but his eyes were already losing focus.
“Sir?”No response.Sir?” His weight suddenly collapsed against her.
“Hey!” Isadora struggled to keep him from hitting the ground.
She quickly checked his pulse.
Still there but Weak, Far too weak.
Panic rose in her chest.
“Don’t you dare die!” She slapped his cheek lightly.
“Sir?” Nothing.
“Sir?
Wake up.” Her voice trembled.
“Sir?” Still nothing.
Isadora stared at the unconscious man in her arms.
She had no idea who he was.
She didn’t know why someone had tried to kill him.
She didn’t know why he had a gun.
All she knew was that she had somehow managed to turn a normal walk home into a fucking crime scene.
And judging by the blood covering her hands… Her night was about to get a whole lot worse CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Isyyyy hellooooo, welcome and take place for this book hope you will enjoy it ^^ THIS IS FOR US DREAMERS!
