15 – Who do you think you are?
Wen Man looked at the camera, unaware of what was happening in the live stream.
Just moments ago, the photographer had asked if she needed to adjust her makeup to better match the rose-pink lipstick.
Wen Man shook her head and declined.
Since it wasn’t suitable in the first place, why force herself to compromise?
Meanwhile, the live stream chat had erupted into chaos.
【Holy crap, am I seeing this right? A hundred Carnivals?!】
【How much money is that? That’s like the down payment for my house!】
【Thanks to the top fan for supporting our Wen Man. Investing in her is never a loss!】
【This top fan is a newly registered account with no information at all!】
【Rich people are like that—low-key and mysterious. Maybe it’s some big shot in the industry.】
The fans on-site watched the live stream, their excitement reaching a fever pitch and causing quite a stir in the mall with their screams.
Wen Man watched as the fans suddenly erupted in excitement, momentarily confused.
“What’s going on?”
She turned to Xiao Ning beside her.
Xiao Ning gestured with her phone toward Wen Man but didn’t speak aloud. Since they were still live, she couldn’t appear on camera.
Wen Man didn’t understand Xiao Ning’s gestures and turned back to the crowd, her eyes still filled with bewilderment.
Someone in the crowd shouted first.
“Someone just gifted you a hundred Carnivals in the live stream!”
Wen Man froze, her gaze toward the camera filled with confusion. With a half-joking tone, she said, “A hundred Carnivals cost hundreds of thousands, and the platform takes half. I’d only get a tiny fraction. Next time, don’t waste your money like that.”
Wen Yanchuan watched as Wen Man leaned toward the camera, smiling as she told him not to spend recklessly. For some reason, he felt like laughing.
A few hundred thousand meant nothing to him. If it could bring her a moment of happiness, it was worth it.
But he wasn’t necessarily going to listen to Wen Man’s advice.
After all, money was the one thing he had in abundance.
For the next half hour of the live stream, whenever a hater jumped in to criticize Wen Man, Wen Yanchuan would casually send another hundred Carnivals.
Within ten minutes, he had pushed Wen Man’s live stream to the top of the platform’s rankings. Countless viewers flooded in, eager to catch a glimpse of this generous top fan.
【I’ve noticed a pattern with this top fan’s gifts!】
【Me too! Whenever someone says something about Wen Man, the Carnivals arrive sooner or later.】
【Let me test it…】
【Wen Man is so ugly.】
【Visitor User gifted Carnival x100.】
【It really works!!】
It seemed as though Wen Yanchuan was using this method to divert attention. The entire chat was captivated by his actions, leaving no room for the haters’ comments.
【This is hilarious. The haters tried to insult our Manman, but they ended up making her money instead.】
【According to incomplete statistics, the top fan has already gifted over a thousand Carnivals. One Carnival costs three thousand—I can’t even do the math.】
But Wen Yanchuan himself paid no mind to any of this.
Sitting in his car, he quietly watched Wen Man on his phone, his expression calm and unreadable.
The driver occasionally glanced at him through the rearview mirror, but Wen Yanchuan’s face was too composed, his eyes showing no trace of emotion.
He had been driving for Wen Yanchuan for five years, and this was the first time he’d ever seen him watch a live stream and send gifts.
Somehow… it felt like an untouchable deity had finally descended into the mundane world.
Until the screen turned black and the woman’s beautiful face disappeared from sight, Wen Yanchuan turned off his phone and waited quietly.
Waiting for what?
Wen Man, surrounded by security, left the mall. Just as she was about to get into the car to leave, a man in a suit suddenly appeared beside her. Looking at Wen Man, he spoke in a low voice.
“Miss Wen, excuse me.”
Wen Man turned to look—it was an unfamiliar face.
Xiao Ning grew wary, subtly shielding Wen Man behind her.
“Our President Wen wishes to see you.”
Upon hearing the words “President Wen,” Xiao Ning instinctively glanced at Wen Man. Their eyes met, and Xiao Ning’s gaze toward Wen Man became subtly meaningful.
The moment Wen Man thought of Wen Yanchuan, her mind involuntarily recalled the black overcoat and a WeChat account she had blocked.
Her expression remained unchanged, and she merely glanced at the man calmly. “I’m sorry, but please tell President Wen that I don’t have time.”
After speaking, Wen Man got into the car, but the door remained open, clearly waiting for Xiao Ning.
“Miss Wen, President Wen has been waiting for you all evening. He won’t mind waiting a little longer.”
Wen Man turned to look at the unfamiliar man, her eyes tinged with anger.
“Did Wen Yanchuan tell you to say that, or was it your own idea?”
The man lowered his head slightly, his words impeccably phrased. “It was my own initiative, but Miss Wen should understand President Wen’s character. He has always been a gentleman.”
That last sentence completely infuriated Wen Man.
What did “always been” mean?
Yes, the number of women Wen Yanchuan had waited for was probably countless. She was just one among them, so why act so aloof and unyielding?
With a cold expression, Wen Man stepped out of the car and looked at the man.
“Where?”
…
When Wen Man was brought to Wen Yanchuan’s car, her expression remained icy.
Seeing Wen Man approaching in her high heels, the driver tactfully stepped out of the car.
Wen Man stood motionless in front of the extended Bentley, as if resisting the person inside.
Through the car window, Wen Yanchuan could still see the displeasure in Wen Man’s eyes.
Wen Yanchuan didn’t understand why the lively face he had just seen in the livestream had become so lifeless in front of him.
The way she had been when she was drunk yesterday felt more genuine.
Wen Man stood outside the car for a long time. Although her fox fur coat kept her warm, she was wearing a skirt, and as the wind from the underground garage blew, she shivered.
“Get in.”
Wen Yanchuan’s deep, cool voice came from inside the car.
Wen Man bit her lip and pulled open the passenger door.
She didn’t want to sit next to Wen Yanchuan.
But as soon as she opened the door, Wen Yanchuan’s voice came from the back again. “Sit in the back.”
Wen Man could only slam the door shut and walk to the back, opening the door to sit inside.
She often hated herself for being spineless, and now was no exception.
Wen Man sat near the door, separated from Wen Yanchuan by a center console.
The car was filled with Wen Yanchuan’s scent—fresh and elegant—and Wen Man almost instinctively relaxed.
Wen Yanchuan tilted his head slightly, looking at Wen Man’s profile, his tone indifferent. “What are you angry about?”
Wen Man looked out the car window. There wasn’t much to see; she just didn’t want to acknowledge Wen Yanchuan.
“Speak.”
Wen Yanchuan’s voice sounded in her ear again.
Wen Man closed her eyes slightly, her tone tinged with anger. “I wouldn’t dare be angry with Mr. Wen.”
“Are you angry because I stood you up?”
Wen Man thought to herself, it wasn’t just his broken promise that angered her, but she couldn’t even articulate what exactly she was upset about.
Was she angry that Wen Yanchuan had no real feelings for her yet still clung to her, stringing her along? Or was she angry that he disregarded whether she wanted it or not, having someone “invite” her over like this?
She really wanted to ask Wen Yanchuan what he took her for.
“The project in the UK kept me busy. I apologize.”
Wen Yanchuan’s voice was deep, carrying the charm of a mature man.
Wen Man lowered her eyelids slightly. “There’s no need for Mr. Wen to explain to me.”
Wen Yanchuan’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he let out a soft “hmm.”
“Add me back.”
Wen Man didn’t look up, as if a rebellious streak had stirred within her, thinking to herself: Why should I? Who do you think you are?
As if he had heard Wen Man’s thoughts, Wen Yanchuan parted his thin lips and asked in return.
“Can’t tonight’s 1,500 Carnivals buy Miss Wen a spot out of the blacklist?”
