He Yuan returned home wanting to talk to Fu Sheng, but Fu Sheng didn’t come back that night. He said he had to stay at the old residence for some business matters.
He Yuan fell silent and replied to him via text message, “Tomorrow, I’ll go to the old residence myself. You don’t have to come back specifically.” After a moment’s pause and contemplating for a while, he still didn’t ask about Fu Sheng’s relationship with He Beijia.
He sat in the living room for a while, placed the prepared jewellery for the birthday celebration, and then went back to his bedroom. On his way, he paused in front of Fu Sheng’s study and looked at the doorknob.
The door was locked, and only Fu Sheng knew the password. There were also surveillance cameras installed inside. He Yuan had glanced at the structure inside before at the entrance. It was spacious enough to build another fully equipped house.
Fu Sheng often brought official business home, and important documents were stored on the computer inside, which had restricted access. Once someone crossed the security line, it would immediately trigger an alarm at the military intelligence office.
He Yuan walked away as if nothing had happened and returned to his bedroom to sleep.
The next morning, He Yuan dressed up early, took the birthday gift, and drove to the Fu family’s old residence in the military district. The soldiers guarding the entrance recognised his face and quickly let him in.
Occasionally, one or two inconspicuous cars drove slowly on the main road leading to the Fu family’s old residence. They all followed the same direction and moved silently. It was evident that precautions had been taken in advance to eliminate any suspicious individuals trying to sneak in.
The Fu family’s old residence was a villa that appeared to have some years behind it, with a style that remained in the previous century. However, due to its geographical location, it exuded an extraordinary heritage and power. The entire street was filled with parked cars, from the alley outside to the end of the street inside. The farther inside the street, the more inconspicuous the parked cars seemed, but the owners of those inconspicuous cars were anything but ordinary.
He Yuan parked his car in a rear position and then walked on foot. From a distance, he saw a line of military police verifying the identity information of each guest at the entrance of the old residence. Just as he was walking a few steps with the birthday gift in his hand, someone called out to him from behind, “He Yuan, wait for me!”
He Yuan turned around and saw a smiling young Alpha calling out to him. He quickly ran to his side and slowed down his pace to match his rhythm. “Why haven’t I seen Fu Sheng?”
The alpha in his youth was part of Fu Sheng’s circle and had a status similar to Fang Gaomin’s. He was also one of the investors in Soulmate. He was smarter than Fang Gaomin, at least polite and enthusiastic towards He Yuan both in public and private. However, He Yuan had witnessed his ruthless face when dealing with others, so he never got close to him.
“Mr. He, Fu Sheng is busy in the old residence,” He Yuan nodded.
He Xingwen smiled, his eyes narrowed. “Oh, I remember now. Fu Sheng has indeed been busy lately, dealing with military affairs and entertaining family and friends at home. He’s so busy that he doesn’t have time to accompany my sister-in-law. I hope sister-in-law doesn’t mind.”
He Yuan detected something in He Xingwen’s words and noticed him observing him from the corner of his eye. He knew that He Xingwen always enjoyed watching drama, so he smiled and replied, “I’m used to it. Fu Sheng is young but holds a high position. I don’t know how many people are watching him. If he doesn’t work hard and be cautious, he would have been brought down long ago. So, I understand that he’s busy. But I also hope that one day he can be as leisurely as Mr. He.”
As the third in line and unable to hold an important position, He Xingwen could only obtain a leisurely job here and there. When he heard He Yuan’s words, his smile quickly turned gloomy. He stared at He Yuan for a while before whispering, “Sister-in-law is right. Fu Sheng is great in every aspect, but he has always had one glaring flaw. However, this flaw will soon be resolved.”
He Yuan gave a meaningless smile. “Is that so?”
He Xingwen said, “Sister-in-law, do you know He Beijia?”
He Yuan replied, “The new star signed by Fang Gaomin. Fu Sheng mentioned it too. Oh, by the way, I met He Beijia and Fang Gaomin on Antique Street[1] yesterday. I overheard them talking about raw jade materials. I didn’t expect Fang Gaomin to admire He Beijia so much. He immediately started discussing their cooperation and partnership regarding raw jade materials…”
“What did you say?” He Xingwen interrupted him with an annoyed tone.
He Yuan tilted his head. “Huh?” He looked at He Xingwen directly for the first time since they met. “Fang Gaomin admires He Beijia?”
He Xingwen was a little impatient. “You said they went to Antique Street yesterday to talk about raw jade materials?” He glanced downward, looking at the birthday gift He Yuan was holding. It had a plain outer packaging, but he could see a corner of the precious wooden box inside.
He recognized that wooden box, it was from Fang Gaomin’s store that specialised in jade and gold located at Antique Street.
He Xingwen’s face instantly turned unpleasant. He had mentioned it so many times, wanting to join Fang Gaomin’s path to wealth through raw jade materials, but he never received approval. And now, that He Beijia appeared, Fang Gaomin immediately went to recruit him, not just because He Beijia had a perfect compatibility of pheromones with Fu Sheng, but also because Fang Gaomin wanted to be ahead in showing his enthusiasm.
He Yuan looked ahead, his smile gradually turning cold and expressionless. His gaze was icy.
It was evident that He Xingwen also valued He Beijia. For both of them to hold such high regard for He Beijia, it meant that it wasn’t just the Fu family who liked him. Fu Sheng was indeed the destined Alpha mentioned by He Beijia!
He Yuan quickly arrived at the entrance of the old mansion. After explaining the situation to the military officers, he was allowed to enter. Fu Sheng’s mother was in the living room, receiving guests. From a distance, through the French windows and across the lawn, he could see her calmly shifting her gaze, continuing to chat and laugh with others. Then she raised her hand to beckon someone over.
That slender figure passed through the admiring gazes of the ladies in the living room, bowing respectfully as she spoke with Fu’s mother.
He Yuan rarely saw Fu’s mother smiling so kindly. Even towards Fu Sheng, she followed the strict and stern motherly path.
“He Yuan,” Fu Jiajing spotted him and waved her hand, calling him over. “It’s chaotic downstairs. Be careful not to be bullied. Go upstairs and wait.”
Fu Jiajing was Fu Sheng’s cousin and also a military personnel. She had a strong personality and quickly stepped forward to block He Yuan’s view of the living room, her smile radiant as she led him upstairs.
He Yuan didn’t mind and followed her with his head down. “Where is Fu Sheng?”
Fu Jiajing replied, “He’s playing chess with Grandfather. What’s in your hands, the birthday gift?”
He Yuan: “Hmm.”
Fu Jiajing: “What is it?”
He Yuan: “A set of Hetian jade[2] jewellery, glass type mined from the southern part of Yunnan.
Fu Jiajing: “It’s also glass-type.”
Also? He Yuan’s thoughts shifted, realising that He Beijia, who personally went to Fang Gaomin’s jade shop yesterday to see glass-type jade, also gifted the jade?
