Fu Jiajing noticed that she misspoke and quickly said with a smile, “Grandmother loves the jewellery made out of jade the most, especially the classic and precious ones that can be passed down as heirlooms. You have a thoughtful mind, unlike Fu Sheng. Here we are. This room doesn’t usually have many visitors, so you can go in and wait for a while.”

He Yuan pursed his lips and asked, “With so many guests, don’t you need my help?”Full novel: Pheromone Scam — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Fu Jiajing waved her hand and said, “No, no, you’re a scholar. You wouldn’t be able to handle such a situation. Just stay here. When the time comes, Fu Sheng will take you downstairs; otherwise, you might feel uncomfortable.”

He Yuan lowered his gaze and said, “Thank you for your trouble.”

Fu Jiajing awkwardly smiled, turned around, closed the door, and left.

He Yuan surveyed the room, which was usually unoccupied. It had a bed, a table, two chairs, and a wardrobe, adhering to the Fu family’s minimalist and simple style. However, no matter how he looked at it, it didn’t seem like anyone had lived here. It was likely a guest room.

He Yuan suddenly chuckled. Fu Jiajing had considered him in every word and sentence, afraid that he would feel uncomfortable and worried that he couldn’t handle the situation. But He Beijia was downstairs being personally received by mother Fu while he was hidden upstairs. They didn’t let him hide in Fu Sheng’s room but casually found a guest room for him, and the reason to keep him away seemed insincere.

He took out his phone and sent a few text messages to Fu Sheng, informing him that he had arrived at the old mansion and that Fu Jiajing had arranged for him to stay in the guest room.

After a while, He Yuan sent another message asking, “Let me know when you see this.”

However, Fu Sheng never replied.

Outside, guests filled the place, making it quite lively. Almost all the influential people in the capital had come because the Fu family’s old mansion was never open to the public. This time, they were hosting a grand banquet to celebrate grandmother Fu’s birthday, but it also involved a significant figure at the top who was about to change positions.

The Fu family, who held power in both the military and politics, always played a crucial role during these transitions. While the purge didn’t reach the Fu family, they still cared about maintaining their reputation.

This birthday celebration was probably also a signal.

The guest room was quiet, in stark contrast to the lively atmosphere outside. He Yuan sat there alone for a long time, but Fu Sheng never showed up. He was forgotten by the others, and Fu Jiajing didn’t come to find him, seeming to have forgotten about his presence.

In the downstairs living room, He Beijia sat next to mother Fu, accompanied by the wives of influential figures in the military and political circles. When grandmother Fu came downstairs, she treated He Beijia kindly and even gave him a jade bracelet she carried with her.

He Beijia hesitated and declined, but mother Fu laughed and insisted he accept it. Grandmother Fu had never favoured anyone like this before. Giving him the jade bracelet meant she really liked him, especially considering how well he and Fu Sheng’s pheromones matched…

These words seemed to slip out unintentionally, but everyone knew that the Fu family was astute. If they didn’t exercise caution with their words, they would have long been forgotten in history. When mother Fu said this, no one refuted it. It was tantamount to telling everyone that they acknowledged He Beijia as the future granddaughter-in-law.

“What about the other one?”

“Who are you referring to?”

“The person by Fu Sheng’s side now, the one who got married six years ago. Are they getting a divorce?”

“They’re not divorced yet, but they will be. However, that person is just a beta. Do you think any family would let a mediocre beta win over an outstanding S-class alpha ?”

“What kind of family is the Fu family? What is Fu Sheng’s status? And what about that beta? If it wasn’t for He Beijia, perhaps the Fu family wouldn’t interfere in the marriage of a remarkable younger generation. But now there’s a perfect match, an O-class. How can they not intervene?”

“What does Fu Sheng think?”

“What can he think? Can an Alpha reject an Omega? They are destined soulmates.”

“It’s a pity. Fu Sheng insisted on marrying an ordinary beta back then. He even went to the front lines to gain the qualifications to marry him. And now that he’s met an Omega, he’s willing to cast aside the old relationship.”

– Hmph, A and O are naturally meant for each other. B is better off with another B.

– You’re right. I remember that person from the Fang family. He almost cut off ties with their own son because of a B. But when they encountered a highly compatible O, he had a change of heart and transformed himself!

– Hahaha… I remember that. The whole circle was shocked back then. The Fang family almost publicly announced their disownment of their son. Luckily, the prodigal son returned in the end.

In another reception room upstairs, Fu Sheng sat upright next to his grandfather and father. His phone, resting on his wrist, lit up and vibrated with several messages. Others couldn’t see them, but both his grandfather and father noticed. They gave Fu Sheng a cold glance and continued listening to the conversations of others.

Fu Sheng paused for a few seconds and chose to turn off his communication.

On the other hand, He Beijia had just finished talking with Fu Sheng’s cousin, Fu Jiajing. When she casually mentioned which guest room He Yuan was in, He Beijia smiled knowingly. “Thank you, Jiajing. I heard that your family’s company is developing a new product and planning to expand its market. I happen to have a few friends in that field. Maybe I can help you connect with them.”

Fu Jiajing’s smile deepened. “It’s always comfortable talking to He Beijia.” Her husband ran a tech company.

He Beijia pursed his lips and smiled, then excused himself as he had something to attend to.

He Yuan was in the guest room, examining the information sent to him by Yu Ye. There was a sound as the door behind him was opened, and he turned around to see He Beijia entering, saying, “Mr. He.”

“Do you know me?” He Beijia raised an eyebrow, appearing somewhat arrogant but not out of place. “If you know me, then things are easier, Mr. He. Speaking of which, our surnames sound the same but have different characters.”

He Yuan asked, “Is there something you need?”

He Beijia strode over with long legs, pulled out a chair, and sat across from He Yuan, giving him an ambiguous smile. “I didn’t think you looked that good in the photos, but it turns out you don’t photograph well.”

“Thank you,” He Yuan replied.
