Resting his chin on his hand, He Beijia said, “Have you seen the news? It’s not fake. My presence here is proof.”

“Fu Sheng never mentioned you,” He Yuan remarked.Full novel: Pheromone Scam — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“He wouldn’t. After all, you two genuinely loved each other, so breaking up should be done gracefully. You know, even if you want to deny it, the pheromones would not be wrong. I remember a biology professor said decades ago that humans didn’t have ABO traits before. Love relied on hormone secretion, and pheromones are an upgraded version of hormones. They make people more honest in love and help them find the most compatible partner for life. After all, hormones only create passion, while pheromones help people navigate through the crowd and find their best match.”

“Soulmates? Cupid’s arrow of love? The overturned love god’s perfume? These are all terms people use to describe pheromones. Although they may be cliche, we can’t deny their truth,” He Beijia said with a smile. “Don’t you agree?”

He Yuan lowered his gaze and stared expressionlessly at his fingertips. “I’ll wait for Fu Sheng to come and tell me.”

“Why subject yourself to humiliation?” He Beijia looked at him with pity. “I appeared at the old mansion of the Fu family to help host Grandma Fu’s birthday celebration. I was downstairs with Mama Fu entertaining guests, while you were left alone in the guest room. Everyone in the Fu family knows, yet no one approached you, and Fu Sheng didn’t contact you. Isn’t that obvious?”

He Yuan stubbornly insisted, “I’ll wait for Fu Sheng to come and say it himself.”

He Beijia frowned, feeling somewhat annoyed by He Yuan’s stubbornness. He sighed and said, “Fine, if you want to hear it directly from him, then come with me.”

He stood up, still looking at He Yuan with a gaze of pity, now mixed with a hint of incomprehension, as if he didn’t understand why he was so stubborn and why he wouldn’t preserve his dignity. However, he himself had no jealousy or disdain for He Yuan because, whether it was his status, the importance the Fu family placed on him, or the compatibility of their pheromones, He Beijia possessed strong and undeniable advantages. He wouldn’t bother with a man destined to be defeated.

He Yuan was led by He Beijia into another secluded and narrow guest room in the old mansion. He saw He Beijia skillfully open a bookshelf, revealing a yellow wall behind it, and he said to He Yuan, “Next door is the Fu family’s reception room in the old mansion. Normally, only Fu family members and close friends are allowed in. Fu Sheng is in there now. You can personally hear his evaluation of your marriage.”

He Yuan blinked, feeling extremely anxious. There was a moment when he felt the urge to escape, but his feet remained firmly rooted in place.

After He Beijia finished speaking, he left. After a while, He Yuan heard the sound of the reception room door opening, followed by He Beijia’s entry and some laughter and conversation inside, with responses from other people, including Fang Gaomin, He Xingwen, Fu Jiqi, and others, who were Fu Sheng’s friends and relatives.

A little while later, He Beijia left, and the others inside continued drinking and talking.

Fang Gaomin took a sip of his wine and casually asked, “Fu Sheng, when are you planning to come clean?”

He Yuan’s heart raced, and he pressed his ear against the wall, remaining silent.

After a while, Fu Sheng’s voice came in a calm tone, “What do you mean by ‘coming clean’?”

Fang Gaomin chuckled, “Don’t play games with us, my friend. You and He Beijia have already taken things to the next level. The only thing missing is for Auntie to introduce her by saying, ‘This is my daughter-in-law.’ The entire Fu family has that attitude, and you didn’t object… Since that’s the case, you have to deal with the person in your family, or else how can you face He Beijia?” This chapter was copied from novelping(.)com without permission.

Fu Sheng remained silent.

He Yuan’s heart turned cold. Fu Sheng’s silence meant he tacitly agreed with what Fang Gaomin had said.

He Xingwen chimed in, “Fu Shao, He Beijia is not like He Yuan. You can’t just play around casually. You have to give him an explanation. Resolve the past issues cleanly. If you need help, just say the word. If you can’t handle it, I’ll take care of it.”

Fu Sheng replied, “No need. I’ll handle it.”

Fu Jiqi, Fu Jiajing’s younger brother and Fu Sheng’s cousin, who was a year younger than Fu Sheng, sneered, “Brother, don’t tell me you’re reluctant?”

Fu Sheng leaned back against the sofa, glanced at him, his gaze deep and distant.

Fu Jiaqi’s scalp tingled, and he quickly straightened up and said, “Brother, you have to think it through. You’ve been relying on suppressants all these years. In a few more years, a sudden outbreak will definitely harm your body. He Yuan can’t help you, only He Beijia can. Besides, can you resist He Beijia’s pheromones? Can you resist strong physiological reactions? Look at yourself these past two weeks since you’ve been with He Beijia. Has your mental state stabilised? Isn’t your headache as severe as before? You don’t need to see the doctor as often.”

— “Being together with He Beijia these past two weeks, my mental state has stabilised a lot.”

— “I have busy official matters. I won’t be going home tonight.”

— “Can you resist He Beijia’s pheromones? Can you resist physiological reactions?”

— “Is being an AO a predetermined fate? I don’t believe in fate!”

— “He Beijia has already become a part of the family…”

— “Fu Sheng, when will you come clean?”

— “No need, I’ll handle it.” This story is hosted at g.com.

— “He Yuan, I’ve accepted my fate.”

— “He Yuan, don’t love an Alpha.”

As the world spun around him, a crimson colour spread across his retinas. His eyes become bloodshot, and a throbbing pain near his temples made it feel like a hand was stirring inside his brain. He clenched his teeth, unable to hear anything anymore, and staggered out of the guest room. He didn’t hear the rest of the conversation.

Fu Jiaqi continued talking, “–I’m serious. Don’t drag it out any longer. If you can’t bring yourself to speak, then I, He Xingwen, will help you persuade He Yuan to divorce–“

“He Yuan divorcing?” Fu Sheng interrupted him, sneering, “–He won’t agree.”

Fu Jiaqi said, “–There are plenty of ways to make him agree to a divorce.”

Fu Sheng glanced at him, “–Don’t meddle in this.”

Fu Jiaqi stiffened all over, noticing the natural expression of ruthlessness that flashed in Fu Sheng’s eyes as he glanced over. Perhaps even Fu Sheng himself hadn’t realised it.

He whispered, “Then what do you suggest? Keep them both?”

Fang Gaomin broke the silence, “Well, it’s not impossible. Keep one as a lover on the side and the other as a partner to show off. Since you like both, just keep them both. Have He Yuan, who’s gentle and considerate, and have He Beijia to fulfil your physical needs. Embrace them both, having the best of both worlds.”

“What best of both worlds…” He Xingwen rolled his eyes, disapproving of Fang Gaomin’s attitude of fawning over Fu Sheng, “In my opinion, it’s better to stabilise things with He Beijia first. He can satisfy your rut period. When it comes down to it, your marriage to He Yuan was an accidental pheromone match. Now that there’s a more compatible Omega, why bother with a counterfeit?”

They simply couldn’t understand Fu Sheng’s hesitation. If they were in his shoes, they would have chosen He Beijia without a moment’s hesitation.

Fu Sheng was merely rubbing the communication device disguised as a watch, his expression deep and inscrutable. No one could discern his thoughts.

After coming out, He Beijia went to the guest room but didn’t find He Yuan. After searching around, he finally found him by the water pool in the backyard, his face pale.

He Yuan handed the birthday gift to the housekeeper and asked him to help deliver it to Grandma Fu. Then, he hurriedly left, head down, through the back garden. He Beijia, observing his departing figure, wasn’t surprised by his reaction. He simply turned his head and said to the housekeeper, “With so many guests and various gifts, I’m having trouble keeping track. Find a room to store them for now and we can register them later.”
