The building he pointed to was less than a hundred meters away, but with the collapsed houses in between, the path was quite difficult to walk.

As they walked over, several zombies wearing suits were wandering ahead. Under the combined attack of Han Chao’s lightning and Xu Sui’s ice cones, they were instantly blasted into dregs.

Li Hongying held her two sons tightly, shielding them from witnessing this scene.Full novel: Picking Up a Little Fool in the Apocalypse, the Villainous Big Shot Spoils Her Rotten — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Sister Li, the kids will have to see this sooner or later. You can’t raise them for a lifetime,” said Ji Hengyuan, who was lifting his foot to walk into the building.

This was a hotel, and the dead zombies were its former employees.

The group walked inside and saw two zombies at the front desk entangled by phone cords, unable to get free.

Ji Hengyuan’s superpower was of little use and could only be used for self-preservation for now, but Wu Ci’s Strength-type superpower smashed one of the zombies’ heads open with a single punch, causing its brains to splatter.

This instantly disgusted the people following behind.

“Wu Ci, that’s so damn disgusting!” Xiao Jinyang was on the verge of throwing up. Ji Hengyuan also pinched his nose and hid far away.

“It’s my first time using the superpower—my mistake, my mistake. I’ll definitely be careful next time,” Wu Ci said as he casually finished off the other zombie as well, ending its tragic existence.

Pei Huaiye acted as if he hadn’t seen anything, leading Ning Ran upstairs.

“There are plenty of zombies here, so all of you practice your skills. Remember to protect Sister Li and her two sons.” He walked effortlessly, but the moment he reached the second floor, a zombie charged down from above the stairs, snarling at them.

Wood superpower gathered in Pei Huaiye’s palm, and the growing vines firmly bound the zombie’s limbs, securing it in a corner of the stairwell without delaying his way upstairs in the slightest.

“Wild-ge, at least kill it to save your brothers some energy!” Xu Sui shouted loudly from behind.

“I’m letting you practice—what energy are you trying to save?” Pei Huaiye walked remarkably fast.

Looking at the zombie bound to the railing, Xu Sui’s playful nature was instantly aroused. He teased the zombie into opening its mouth to bite him, then pulled his hand far away right when it was about to snap, leaving the zombie glaring helplessly with no way out.

“Mom, these monsters are so scary,” Li Hongying’s two sons cried in fear.

“Don’t worry, it’s bound tightly and can’t bite you.” After playing for a bit, Xu Sui found it boring and let Li Hongying and her sons go upstairs first, while he and Han Chao together blasted the bound zombie into nothingness.

An unpleasant odor instantly filled the stairwell.

“Once you’ve played enough, get upstairs—fast!” Pei Huaiye’s voice floated down from above, prompting Xu Sui and Han Chao to rush upstairs at lightning speed.

Fortunately, this hotel wasn’t a well-known establishment, and there weren’t many people staying here.

Pei Huaiye was only responsible for trapping, while the people behind were responsible for killing, taking in the full brunt of the foul smell along the way.

The group went up to the sixteenth floor, which housed the hotel’s presidential suite. Perhaps because it hadn’t been rented out before the apocalypse, when they opened the door, there were actually no zombies inside—a truly unexpected surprise.

The suite had several rooms. Pei Huaiye chose the master bedroom. Having just witnessed the terrifying appearance of zombies, Li Hongying and her two sons were too scared to stay alone and insisted on staying with Han Chao, Ji Hengyuan, and the others.

Looking down from the French windows on the sixteenth floor, twilight draped a terrifying coat over the city.

Places that should have been brightly lit now resembled a monster with a blood-red maw, casting a wave of fear into everyone’s hearts.

Ning Ran wandered around the room, full of curiosity.

“Brother, this room is so pretty.”

Pei Huaiye glanced at her without replying.

“Brother, can I live here forever?”

Still, nobody paid her any mind.

A bit upset, Ning Ran opened the door and walked out, finding the living room lively and bustling.

There was no electricity in the hotel—the power system had been destroyed during the earthquake—so they could only light candles or use flashlights for illumination.

When Ning Ran came out, the two little kids were leaning against Li Hongying and sobbing. The zombies they had seen today had quite an impact on them, and they likely wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully all night.

Hearing the noise, Han Chao and the others who were playing cards raised their heads: “Hey, little idiot, what are you doing?”

He saw Ning Ran walking toward the door.

“There’s someone!” As soon as Ning Ran spoke, the room went instantly quiet, and even the sobbing stopped.

Everyone stared in terror at the doorway, the room so quiet that only their own heartbeats could be felt.

Pei Huaiye also stepped out of the master bedroom, his gaze landing on Ning Ran by the door.

Everyone kept their eyes glued to Ning Ran, terrified that something would break through the door in the next instant.

The Wood superpower in Pei Huaiye’s hand had already gathered, and he slowly walked up behind Ning Ran.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of someone kicking the door actually rang out.

Inside the room, Han Chao and the others were fully prepared, ready to attack at a moment’s notice.

“Help! Help, there are zombies…”

It was a woman’s voice outside, and it sounded somewhat familiar.

Pei Huaiye pulled Ning Ran behind him, threw the door open, and the people outside tumbled inside like a human pyramid.

“Shen Shuhe?” Han Chao called out.

Only then did Pei Huaiye withdraw his superpower, looking at the people collapsed on the carpet.

“Quick, close the door! There are zombies…” Before Shen Shuhe could finish her sentence, a zombie tried to squeeze through the doorway.

Quick on his feet, Pei Huaiye kicked the zombie flying and slammed the door shut at lightning speed.

“Why are you here?” he asked, narrowing his eyes.

Shen Shuhe stood up from the floor, looking at the man before her while shedding aggrieved tears: “I’ve been following you the whole time…”

Han Chao cursed under his breath and threw his cards onto the table: “What do you want, following our Boss? Wild-ge doesn’t go back to his exes.”

Zhou Xu, who was beside Shen Shuhe, spoke up: “Pei Huaiye, there’s a misunderstanding between you and Shuhe. She has always wanted to explain things to you clearly.”

“And who are you?” Pei Huaiye didn’t even raise an eyelid. Sneering, he said, “Following from one city to another, just to explain a misunderstanding? Unlikely, isn’t it?”

“Huaiye, listen to my explanation! Zhou Xu and I aren’t what you think…” Shen Shuhe panicked. She had followed Pei Huaiye all this way, enduring so much hardship.

“There’s no need to explain anything to me. Shen Shuhe, what do you actually want?” Pei Huaiye crossed his arms, staring at her with composed indifference.

She was still wearing the same clothes from a while back, looking extremely disheveled and wretched.

“I just don’t want you to misunderstand me,” Shen Shuhe bit her lip, looking remarkably fragile.

“Whether there’s a misunderstanding isn’t that important. Don’t think your position in my heart is important, and don’t test my patience either. The zombies outside were drawn here by you people—now please go out and clean them up,” Pei Huaiye said to them in a cold voice.

“Do you have any humanity left? Miss Shen suffered so much to find you and was almost bitten by zombies, and now you actually want her to clear the zombies?” A man accompanying Shen Shuhe spoke out in outrage.

“Allow me to correct you—I’m not telling Shen Shuhe to go alone, but all of you.” As Pei Huaiye spoke, he threw open the door to the presidential suite. The zombies outside swarmed in like bees. Shen Shuhe and her group were on the outermost side, forced to fight off the zombies.

“Pei Huaiye, are you crazy?!” Protected firmly behind Zhou Xu, Shen Shuhe stabbed a knife into a zombie’s head. Foul blood splattered all over the ground, and the air instantly turned hideous.

Meanwhile, her teammates were desperately fighting to slay the remaining zombies.

A zombie that stumbled toward Ning Ran was kicked flying by Pei Huaiye, crashing heavily right in front of Zhou Xu. Zhou Xu raised his blade and brought it down, successfully taking out one.

Under the cooperation of Shen Shuhe’s team, the dozens of zombies outside were completely wiped out.

“Pei Huaiye, do you even have a heart?!” Shen Shuhe turned back, crying so hard she was out of breath.
