Occasionally, people came to this shopping mall to search for supplies. When they saw what was happening, however, they didn’t dare approach.
After all, when faced with a group of ruthless thugs, people naturally had an instinct to seek safety and avoid danger.
All they could do was feel sorry for Ning Ran, who had fallen into the hands of these people.
The group gathered the supplies they had scavenged, then led Ning Ran, who was tightly bound with rope, toward their temporary hideout.
Their hideout wasn’t far away. It was a warehouse belonging to a large supermarket. Before the apocalypse, the men had worked there as loading and unloading laborers.
When the apocalypse struck, they took advantage of their familiarity with the location and their access to the warehouse, claiming the entire place as their own. As a result, they had no shortage of food or drink.
The warehouse had running water and a room where they could rest temporarily. The boss opened the door, and his underlings filed inside one after another.
In this new world, the five or six men had managed to establish a little territory of their own.
“Boss, take this chick for a nice bath for two, hehehe…” one of the underlings said obsequiously before untying Ning Ran.
Now that she was on their turf, even a tiger would have to lie low, and even a dragon would have to coil up. In short, she had no chance of escaping. All she could do was obediently become their plaything and help relieve their boredom.
The moment Ning Ran was freed, she impatiently pulled the rag out of her mouth and took a bite of the bread in her hand.
She was still hungry!
“Little chick, don’t eat that. In a bit, you’ll get to enjoy something that’ll really make you happy!” The middle-aged man roughly dragged Ning Ran toward the bathroom.
His underling was right. He really hadn’t touched a woman in a long time. Since one had conveniently fallen into his hands today, he might as well have some fun with her.
Ning Ran frowned at his rough treatment, then shoved him hard and ran deeper into the warehouse.
She might have been an idiot, but she still didn’t like the way that man looked at her. He looked as though he wanted to eat her alive.
“Boss, looks like the little dummy wants to play something interesting with you!” one of the underlings burst out laughing.
The middle-aged man didn’t mind. He simply followed her inside at a leisurely pace.
Ning Ran hated this place. She nimbly climbed to the top of an entire row of shelves and began screaming at the top of her lungs.
The boss’s expression changed. He wanted to get Ning Ran down as quickly as possible, but to his surprise, she was as slippery as an eel. She ran from one end of the shelves to the other.
She was light, and the shelves were tall. For the moment, the middle-aged man couldn’t do anything about her.
“Get that bitch down here for me!” he roared furiously.
He had been careless. He had thought he’d caught an obedient woman, only to discover that she was more cunning than a rabbit.
The underling who had originally been guarding the door heard the boss’s order and joined the others in trying to catch her…
The unexpected happened in that very instant.
Ning Ran’s screams attracted the zombies, whose hearing and eyesight were exceptionally sharp. The warehouse door, which had been left ajar, gave them the opportunity they needed to get inside.
By the time the people in the warehouse realized what was happening, it was already too late. The zombies squeezed through the gap in the door and immediately pounced on any living person they saw.
In just a few short minutes, the entire warehouse had turned into something straight out of hell. The stench of blood filled every corner…
Ning Ran frowned. She disliked the smell brought in by the “people” who had entered.
But she loved everything inside the warehouse! Food, daily necessities—she wanted all of it!
Then, under the terrified “expressions” of those people, Ning Ran successfully emptied the entire warehouse of its contents.
Everything was gone. There was nothing left except empty shelves.
Ning Ran climbed down and wanted to greet the “people” from earlier. Unfortunately, they merely rolled their eyes and stared at her for a while before staggering out of the warehouse, joining the ranks of the zombies.
“Waaah! Don’t all leave!” Ning Ran pouted. She hadn’t finished playing with them yet. Besides, where had all the things in the warehouse gone?
Unfortunately, the stench inside was making her so uncomfortable that she ran outside barefoot.
The streets were full of “people” coming and going, but not a single one was willing to pay attention to her.
Ning Ran was speechless. She had no choice but to follow the “crowd” from one place to another.
Whenever she got tired, she would sneak into the home-textiles section of a department store to warm herself up. Wrapped in a cozy blanket, she would quickly fall asleep.
From nightfall until dawn, Ning Ran stayed sprawled on a display bed, refusing to get up.
After finishing the half a loaf of bread she had crushed almost beyond recognition in her hand, she rubbed her stomach, which was already terribly hungry again, and decided to go look for food.
She had just fallen off the bed and hadn’t even managed to get back up when something cold pressed against her head.
“Human or zombie?”
A pleasant male voice reached her ears.
Ning Ran looked up and saw a sharply defined face. The man’s eyes were icy, completely devoid of emotion.
“Hehehe! Human! Handsome!”
Ning Ran giggled twice and threw her arms around him.
“Ye-ge, what the hell is going on?” The person who had followed the man over was so astonished that his jaw nearly hit the floor.
His cold, aloof boss, who never showed the slightest warmth toward anyone, was currently being clung to by something that looked like a female ghost.
“Xu Sui, Han Chao, get her off me!” Pei Huaiye ground out through clenched teeth.
He hated being touched by women, especially ugly women like this one. She looked as though she had been dug out of a garbage dump, filthy and stinking.
And the worst part was that she was a fucking idiot!
Pei Huaiye had never been so humiliated in his entire life!
“Yes, Ye-ge!”
Xu Sui and Han Chao each grabbed one of Ning Ran’s arms and peeled her off Pei Huaiye like an octopus. Then they threw her heavily onto the ground.
That’s right. They threw her.
Ning Ran rubbed her sore bottom, got back up, and reached out to hug Pei Huaiye again.
“Are you tired of living?”
A cold gun barrel pointed at Ning Ran’s head.
Ning Ran raised her hand and poked the dark muzzle of the gun. Then she flashed him a row of pearly white teeth.
Her face might have been dirty, but at least her teeth weren’t yellow.
“Ye-ge, is this chick seriously an idiot?” Xu Sui exclaimed in amazement.
And this idiot was surprisingly clever, too. She had figured out that Pei Huaiye was the most handsome man among them, so she had specifically chosen him to hug.
“Uh, Ye-ge, why don’t you just give in to her? Looks like she’s pretty determined to get you!” Han Chao said, struggling to suppress his laughter as his shoulders shook.
“Are you all too free for your own good? If you have nothing to do, go kill some zombies. You could use the practice.”
Pei Huaiye’s voice was devoid of any emotion.
His other hand remained firmly pressed against Ning Ran’s forehead, preventing her from getting any closer and wrapping herself around him like an octopus again.
“Big Brother, handsome! Hug me!”
Ning Ran kicked and flailed her arms and legs, but the man’s long arms blocked her path completely.
“Xu Sui, Han Chao, go start the car. We’re heading back.”
Pei Huaiye had already collected the goods in the shopping mall into his spatial storage. He had even taken a substantial amount of clothing, shoes, and outdoor equipment. There was nothing left in the mall worth staying for.
Pei Huaiye shoved Ning Ran to the ground. While she wasn’t paying attention, he strode toward the exit.
“Big Brother, don’t run away! Hug me~~!”
Unwilling to give up, Ning Ran followed him. Before Pei Huaiye could get into the car, she grabbed his clothes.
“Big Brother, hug me!”
Pei Huaiye turned around and looked at her stubborn expression. He was just about to speak when, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a horde of zombies surging toward them.
“Boss, hurry!” Han Chao shouted from the driver’s seat.
Seeing that he couldn’t shake off Ning Ran, this troublesome woman, Pei Huaiye grabbed her by the collar and stuffed her into the car.
The modified off-road vehicle shot forward with a whoosh, leaving the pursuing zombies standing blankly in confusion.
Where was the car?
Where were the people?
What had they come here for?
…
The vehicle left the shopping mall and headed toward the group’s temporary hideout.
Along the way, zombies were sent flying by the impact of the vehicle, scattering through the air like objects following a parabola before crashing down at different points.
Half a day later, the zombies, now missing arms and legs, slowly climbed back to their feet and wandered off in another direction.
“Woohoo! Boss, that was fucking awesome!”
Han Chao drove like a maniac, practically stomping the accelerator straight through the floor and into the gas tank.
