Zhou Xu’s Wind superpower was simply not enough to show off in front of the zombies—they had come within a hair’s breadth of having their entire team wiped out.

Without the protection of powerful individuals, her Healing superpower seemed utterly laughable.

Right now, she desperately needed Pei Huaiye’s forgiveness.Full novel: Picking Up a Little Fool in the Apocalypse, the Villainous Big Shot Spoils Her Rotten — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“What does that have to do with me? Han Chao, let’s go!” Pei Huaiye walked toward the car with Ning Ran, leaving Shen Shuhe and her crew standing where they were.

“Shuhe, follow them!” Zhou Xu grabbed Shen Shuhe’s wrist and quickly sat into the car.

The vehicle started up, speeding along to keep up with the car driving away ahead.

“Boss, they’re following us,” Han Chao said as he caught up with Pei Huaiye in the other vehicle.

“Ignore them, speed up!” Pei Huaiye replied, stepping on the gas and speeding ahead fast.

Entering the territory of Huacheng, the roads became difficult to travel on. The shattered ruins following the earthquake and the cracked roads greatly reduced their speed.

By the time they returned to the villa area, it was already past twelve o’clock.

Cheng Lichuan inside the villa opened the gate. The cars drove in, blocking the vehicle following behind outside.

“Huaiye-ge…” Hearing the noise, Xu Wei ran out. But when she saw Pei Huaiye opening the door for Ning Ran, the smile froze on her face.

Ning Ran, that fool—how is she still alive?

In contrast, Lin Yao walked over to Ji Hengyuan and the others, revealing a slight smile.

“Lichuan, did anything happen around the villa while we were away?” Pei Huaiye walked into the living room and asked.

Cheng Lichuan replied, “The villa next door was taken over by a group of armed people. They tried to make a move on us, but didn’t succeed.”

He didn’t mention the matter of Xu Wei wanting to send things to others.

“Next door?” Pei Huaiye’s eyes turned sharp, and he headed down to the subterranean surveillance room. The monitors there were densely packed with footage surrounding the villa.

“Wow, Brother, what’s this?” Ning Ran’s curiosity exploded.

“Surveillance—we can see outside.” Pei Huaiye watched the screen at the main entrance. Shen Shuhe and her group had stepped out of their car, looking at the tightly shut villa gate while stomping their feet in rage.

Then, he also saw a car driving over not far away, pulling over a short distance behind Shen Shuhe. Armed men then stepped out and walked toward them.

Without knowing what was said, Shen Shuhe, Zhou Xu, and the others actually ended up leaving with them.

“Huaiye-ge, why didn’t you let them in?” Xu Wei spoke up from behind. She didn’t know about Pei Huaiye’s past and naturally didn’t recognize who Shen Shuhe was.

“Xu Wei, just mind your own business and don’t worry about things you shouldn’t worry about.” Pei Huaiye turned his head to glance at her, his eyes half-narrowed: “Out of respect for you being Xu Sui’s cousin, I can choose not to hold your previous mistakes against you. But if you act foolishly again in the future, you can leave the team.”

“What heinous mistake did I actually make for you to talk to me like this?” Xu Wei was unconvinced, believing she hadn’t done anything wrong.

Pei Huaiye stared at her intently until she backed away two steps in guilt, after which he led Ning Ran out of the basement.

The moment he left, Xu Wei let out a sharp sigh of relief, patting her chest in lingering fear. Pei Huaiye’s gaze had been far too terrifying—just like executing her by a thousand cuts.

“Boss, Weiwei she…” Xu Sui wanted to ask what Xu Wei had done to anger the Boss, while also fearing she might genuinely be kicked out. The world outside was no longer merely a world of zombies, but possessed even more terrifying existences.

Pei Huaiye didn’t speak, taking Ning Ran upstairs without even coming down for lunch.

Biting her lip, Xu Wei didn’t dare utter a single word.

In the middle of the night, the villa’s alarm system beeped continuously, waking everyone from their deep sleep.

Pei Huaiye stood before the second-floor French window, watching the armed people outside attacking the villa’s security system.

Dazedly getting out of bed, Ning Ran walked up to him and buried her head straight into his chest: “Brother, noisy!”

It was indeed quite noisy.

Cursing under his breath, Han Chao climbed out of bed and walked down to the surveillance room in the basement, spotting a group of people standing right in front of the main gate.

“Fuck, what are you pretending for in the middle of the night? Waking me up from my beauty sleep—can you take responsibility for that?” His voice echoed out through the external speakers.

Pinpointing the camera location, the other side raised a gun, firing a BANG that blew out one of the surveillance cameras.

“Son of a bitch…” Infuriated, Han Chao charged into the armory, grabbing weapons and preparing to rush outside, only to be stopped by Xu Sui: “They can’t get in, they just want you to step outside. Wouldn’t rushing out like this mean falling for their trap?”

“We just let them bully us like this?” Han Chao was unresigned.

There were only about ten of them, while the other side had twenty to thirty at least—it felt a bit like being outnumbered.

“Han Chao-ge, they just want supplies, that’s all. How about we spend money/supplies to avert disaster?” Xu Wei spoke up softly from behind.

“No wonder the Boss reprimands you, Xu Wei. They haven’t even broken in yet and you’re already this spineless. If they actually break in, wouldn’t you wash yourself clean and present yourself to them?” Han Chao mocked sarcastically.

Xu Sui glanced at her without speaking; his cousin was truly somewhat confused. Was this something that could be resolved by handing over supplies? They wanted their lives, as well as this villa of theirs.

“People inside, hand over your supplies obediently and we might spare your lives. Otherwise…”

Before the sentence could be finished, Han Chao dropped his weapons, walked outside, and channeled his superpower to blast the big trees outside.

Before the spokesperson could finish speaking, he was crushed by a heavy fallen tree branch, blood flowing instantly.

“That’s a method too.” Thoughtfully, Xu Sui channeled his Ice superpower; ice cones fell from the sky, bashing those people into crying for their parents, quickly scattering in flight.

“Heh heh, daring to come provoke us with just this bit of capability? Boss hasn’t even shown his hand yet.” Seeing the other party scatter in panic, Han Chao was in a great mood, turning around to go upstairs to sleep.

Seeing the matter resolved so smoothly, Xu Wei’s face flushed white and red, feeling thoroughly embarrassed.

After everyone left, Xu Sui stepped forward: “Weiwei, showing mercy in the apocalypse is using a knife to stab yourself. Even if you give them supplies this time, what about next time, and the time after that? When your supplies are completely exhausted, what will you use yourself? Wait for death?”

Xu Sui spoke in a way that made Xu Wei feel exceedingly humiliated, her eyes turning red: “Brother, I was wrong!”

“As long as you can correct your mistakes, that’s fine. You don’t know the Boss’s true strength, and neither do I. In short, he’s more powerful than anyone else.” Finishing his words, Xu Sui also turned and left.

Xu Wei bit her lip tightly to keep her tears from falling.

On the second floor, Pei Huaiye watched the farce outside without saying a word. Looking down, he saw that Ning Ran had already fallen asleep holding his waist.

Truly, no matter how chaotic it got outside, nothing could stop her from sleeping whenever she pleased.

He picked her up, laid her on the bed, and pulled up the quilt for her before lying down beside her. Just as he fell asleep, he heard a loud BANG from outside, followed by screams.

He didn’t move, nor did he have any intention of going out to save anyone. In an apocalypse where everyone was in danger, one shouldn’t nurture evil intentions in wicked people.

Early the next morning, he went downstairs to check the surveillance. A swarm of zombies had gathered around the villa, including those people from yesterday.

Something he didn’t know about had happened outside.

Clicking open the surveillance playback, around two or three in the morning, a horde of zombies coming from nowhere surrounded the villa next door. Even with the most advanced weapons, the people inside couldn’t prevent their fate of being bitten.

As for Shen Shuhe and her crew, they were even further beyond his realm of consideration.

“Boss, something big happened outside. Do you want to go take a look?” Han Chao’s voice echoed from the doorway of the basement.
