Chapter 6: A Malicious Gengar!
Deep within the ruins, the temperature plummeted, and the light grew increasingly dim.
Cyndaquil walked ahead of Sean, the flames on its back burning steadily to bring warmth and light to the gloomy corridor.
Its small nose twitched constantly, sniffing the air as it remained alert to its surroundings.
As they followed the stone steps down to the second floor, the scene before them caused both of them to freeze in their tracks.
It was a massive, relatively well-preserved stone wall covered in vibrant murals and a long string of ancient script!
The first depicted a creature resembling a saber-toothed tiger, its body adorned with golden thunderbolt patterns that seemed to crackle with the weight of a thousand storms.
The second resembled a majestic lion, boasting a fiery red mane with raging flames burning beneath its paws.
The final one resembled a lone wolf, with ribbon-like streams of water swirling around its body, looking like the very incarnation of the north wind.
The three legendary beasts—Raikou, Entei, and Suicune—were painted so vividly that they looked ready to leap out from the stone wall at any second!
“Holy mother of peak!” Sean gasped in awe.
“The Ruins of Alph are actually connected to the legendary beasts?
But as for the ancient script underneath…
It’s all Greek to me.
If any of my bros in the comments section can read this, definitely drop a comment and let me know!” After taking a few close-up shots of the mural, Sean continued to explore deeper with Cyndaquil.
Before long, wild Pokémon began to appear around them.
A light-brown Sandshrew curled up into a wary ball; a Zubat hanging upside down from a stone beam let out sharp squeaks; an Ekans poked its head out from a crevice in the rocks, flicking its tongue.
There was even a Bellsprout rooted to the rocky wall, its body swaying gently in the interplay of light and shadow.
“Looks like the ecosystem here is pretty solid.” Sean filmed as he walked cautiously, terrified of startling these Pokémon.
His eyes scanned the surroundings, searching for a Pokémon that would suit him.
Just then, a Geodude in a corner, perfectly camouflaged as an ordinary rock, caught his attention.
“Awesome, a Rock-type Geodude!” *(PS: He doesn’t actually catch the Geodude, bros, don’t run away!)* The Violet Gym was a Flying-type Gym, which meant Rock-types possessed a massive type advantage.
It was perfect!
“Cyndaquil, get ready to battle!” “Inaa!” Cyndaquil nimbly leaped in front of the Geodude, the flames on its back flaring higher, brimming with battle intent.
Sensing immediate danger, Geodude snapped its eyes open, thrusting out its clenched fists into an offensive stance.
Brimming with confidence, Sean was just about to order Cyndaquil to use Ember to secure a pre-emptive strike when…
An unexpected situation occurred!
The Geodude opposite them didn’t play by the rules at all.
Instead of using common moves like Rock Throw or Rollout, its entire body suddenly erupted with a blinding white light!
“Wait, could that move be…?” Sean’s pupils shrunk to pinpricks.
He scooped up Cyndaquil and bolted: “Holy crap, completely uncalled for!
It’s using Explosion!” Before he and Cyndaquil could get far, Geodude detonated with a thunderous *BOOM*.
The deafening blast swept through the entire corridor.
Just as Sean braced himself and Cyndaquil to be blown away by the shockwave, an astonishing sight unfolded.
The ancient patterns on the stone walls suddenly glowed with a faint blue light, completely absorbing the impact of the explosion.
The stone walls didn’t even sustain a single scratch, remaining completely intact!
“Huh?!” Stunned by this incomprehensible phenomenon, Sean curiously tapped on the stone wall.
However, before he could give it any further thought, another crisis silently arrived.
The stone floor beneath his feet, which had been weathered for countless eons, could no longer withstand the vibrations of the recent blast.
It gave way, fracturing inch by inch!
Sean instantly felt the ground vanish beneath him.
His body lost all balance, and together with a panicked Cyndaquil, he plummeted straight into the darkness below…
*THUD!* He crashed heavily onto the cold, hard stone floor below, his rear end taking the brunt of the impact.
With its eyes squeezed shut, Cyndaquil lay flat on Sean’s chest.
Thanks to him acting as a human cushion, it hadn’t taken much damage.
“Hiss—ah!
My poor butt!” Sean propped himself up on his side and rubbed his rear.
Once the pain subsided slightly, he pressed his hands against the floor to stand up, only to feel his phone.
The screen was shattered, but it was still actively recording.
Right then, the screen reflected a pair of large, glowing red eyes filled with malice and mockery.
Almost at that exact microsecond, a purple Shadow Ball forged from pure Ghost-type energy came rocketing straight toward Sean and Cyndaquil!
Having already sensed the danger, Sean scooped up Cyndaquil and executed a hard side-roll, narrowly dodging the lethal Shadow Ball.
*BOOM!* The Shadow Ball struck the exact spot where they had been lying, blasting a small black crater into the floor.
Sean stared intently at the large, glowing red eyes in the darkness, his body still trembling slightly.
Cyndaquil immediately leaped in front of him, using the flames on its back to illuminate the darkness, revealing the owner of those large crimson eyes…
It had a round, purple body with short limbs and pointed ears.
“It’s a Gengar!” It floated in mid-air, looking down at Sean and Cyndaquil with great amusement, its wide mouth splitting into a creepy, cackling laugh.
Sean’s brows furrowed tightly.
Inside the stone chamber.
The battle was on the verge of erupting— “Cyndaquil, Flamethrower!” Sean bellowed.
A pillar of blazing fire erupted instantly from Cyndaquil’s mouth.
“Ke-hehe!” Gengar smirked wickedly, conjuring a massive Shadow Ball between its hands and hurling it forward.
To Sean’s utter surprise, the anticipated explosion from a head-on collision or a stagnant deadlock never happened.
The Flamethrower tore through the Shadow Ball with absolute ease, its momentum completely unchecked as it slammed violently into Gengar’s round body!
“Ke-giah!” Gengar wailed in agony from the pain.
Sean was bewildered.
Cyndaquil hadn’t unleashed that terrifying strength against the Team Rocket member; it was just a regular Flamethrower.
Why was it this powerful?
No!
He realized it in an instant.
It wasn’t that Cyndaquil was too strong, but that Gengar was too weak.
This Gengar was all bark and no bite—it was weakened to the absolute extreme!
Having been struck by the Flamethrower, Gengar’s body actually began to turn translucent.
Purple particles of light were slowly drifting away from its edges, looking as if it might vanish entirely at any second!
The creature, which had radiated pure malice and danger just moments ago, suddenly burst into fat tears, crying out loud like a child whose candy had been stolen.
“Ke-hehe…
ke-giah…
(Waaaah—you, you, you—wahhh—)” Gengar’s sorrowful wails echoed through the stone chamber, causing Sean’s guard to falter.
Staring at Gengar’s nearly dissolving body, a strange pang of guilt washed over him, even though Gengar had been the one to attack first.
What was even stranger was that he could actually understand exactly what Gengar meant through its tearful cries!
“Ke-giah?
(Huh?
You can actually understand me?)” Sensing the anomaly, Gengar stopped crying and looked at Sean in bewilderment.
“I don’t know why either, but why did you attack us?!” Sean demanded immediately.
Gengar remained silent, merely lowering its head…
Seeing it like this, Sean turned around, preparing to climb back up and leave this place.
Seeing that Sean was about to walk away, Gengar hesitated for a moment before finally speaking up slowly: “Ke-hehe…
(I’m sorry.
It’s because you look so much like…
him…)” “Him?” —
