—- In the Paldea region, on a livestream with very few viewers, a cheerful and energetic sweet female voice rang out.
“Catch your eyes with Electroweb!
Who’s your streamer?
Iono’s here!” “Good morning, afternoon, and evening, hello, everyone!” “And now~ Iono will be joining you all to witness the final moments of this Paldea Pokémon League Champion Assessment!” “Trainer Michael Scott versus the Chairwoman of the Paldea League and Top Champion, Geeta!” As the rousing background music played, the camera gradually zoomed in on the summit of the Pokémon League headquarters northwest of Mesagoza, where the final battle slowly reached its climax.
Countless sparks crackled across the battlefield.
A closer look at the ground revealed scattered layers of faint purple Toxic Spikes.
On the field, two battered Pokémon faced each other.
One possessed crystalline petals, giving it an aura that was both mysterious and dangerous.
The other had a majestic black mane.
Though badly poisoned, its golden eyes, radiant like the sun itself, showed not the slightest hint of hesitation.
They were filled only with the resolve to risk everything.
During the tense standoff, the young man on the left, around eighteen years old, dressed in clean, casual clothes, gave his command.
“Wild Charge!” A sharp gleam flashed through Luxray’s eyes.
Countless arcs of electricity instantly enveloped its body, as though it had donned a suit of golden armor.
Not even the poison coursing through its veins could shake its determination.
The next instant, Luxray transformed into a bolt of lightning and charged straight toward Glimmora, scorching the battlefield black wherever it passed.
On the opposite side, the black-haired beauty dressed in a perfectly tailored suit had no intention of sitting back and taking the attack.
Her battling style was every bit as imposing as a war goddess’s.
Geeta firmly commanded, “Sludge Wave!” In an instant, a massive wave of toxic sludge swept across the battlefield.
Luxray’s advance was nearly brought to a complete halt by the poisonous tide.
Even so, Luxray’s gaze remained unwavering.
At that moment, it seemed to resonate with Michael himself.
Memories of everything they had experienced together flashed through Luxray’s mind.
It felt an inexplicable surge of strength welling up from within.
With a determined growl, it gritted its teeth, pushed forward with every ounce of its strength, and finally reached that small crystalline body.
A storm of golden lightning engulfed the entire battlefield in an instant.
The entire Paldea League headquarters trembled violently, and an unpleasant odor began to spread through the air.
The smell mixed with the stench of poison, creating an overwhelmingly foul scent.
Yet neither Michael nor Luxray frowned in the slightest.
Instead, they smiled from the bottom of their hearts.
Because from where they stood, Geeta’s Glimmora could no longer maintain its levitation.
It crashed onto the battlefield, which now looked as though it had been struck by a meteor, with no trace of its original smooth surface remaining, and completely lost the ability to battle.
A new Champion-ranked Trainer had been born.
…
“I’m retiring!” After completing the Champion Assessment and earning the title of Champion-ranked Trainer, Michael was met with Geeta’s invitation.
—”Come work for the Paldea League.” His answer, however, was completely beyond her expectations.
Geeta rubbed her aching temple and frowned.
“Champion Michael Scott…
do you understand what you’re saying?” Letting out a long breath, Michael, still exhausted after battling his way through the Elite Four before facing her, answered without the slightest hesitation, “I do.
And my decision isn’t going to change.” Geeta sighed softly.
Looking at Michael with unconcealed regret, she asked, “I can’t force you to change your mind.
But at least tell me why.” “You reached this level in only a single year.
You possess extraordinary potential.
Why would you choose to give it all up?” Michael’s eyes darted away for a brief moment.
For some reason, he had a feeling his answer might actually anger the always elegant and even-tempered League Chairwoman.
But under Geeta’s overwhelmingly imposing gaze, he quickly gave in, raising both hands in surrender.
“You know my background.
Becoming a Trainer was nothing more than a fortunate coincidence.” “In truth…
my dream has always been to open a small shop or a farm and live a peaceful countryside life.” “Now that I’ve become a Champion-ranked Trainer, I finally have both the confidence and the ability to make that dream come true.” Geeta took a deep breath.
She wasn’t incapable of understanding his reasoning.
But seeing such an outstanding Trainer choose retirement still made her let out another heavy sigh.
“I understand.
Your reason has convinced me.
However…
I do have one request I’d like you to consider.” Michael looked slightly surprised before straightening up to listen.
Geeta slowly continued, “You’re a powerful Trainer, and the only person to pass the Champion Assessment in recent years.
If anything happens in the Paldea region that I can’t personally handle because I’m occupied elsewhere…
I hope you’ll accept it as a private commission from me.” This time, Michael didn’t refuse.
“No problem.” …
Cabo Poco, in southern Paldea.
Half a month had passed since the little-known battle at the Pokémon League.
The newly appointed Champion-ranked Trainer had accepted no official position afterward.
Very few people even knew that Paldea had gained another Champion-ranked Trainer.
The peaceful little town continued its quiet, ordinary life as always.
From an elegant-looking building in the center of Cabo Poco walked a young man wearing a casual T-shirt, knee-length shorts, and sunglasses despite the warm sunshine, looking as though he were headed for a beach vacation.
Looking down at the freshly stamped Land Transfer Certificate and Construction Permit in his hands, Michael nearly shed tears of joy.
He had never imagined that buying a large piece of land in the Pokémon world would be such a hassle.
It had taken a full seven days before he finally received the paperwork from the Mayor’s Residence behind him.
If he’d known it’d take this long, he would’ve swallowed his pride and asked one of his acquaintances for help.
What was a little dignity worth, anyway?
Still…
When Michael finally arrived at the land he’d purchased, having practically emptied his entire savings account, leaving only enough money to feed his Pokémon, his eyes shone brighter than ever before.
This was exactly what he’d been looking for!
The Pokémon world wasn’t just about battles and competition.
It also offered the chance to spend a happy life together with your greatest partners.
Lounging under the warm sun while petting Luxray.
Teasing his tsundere Serperior every now and then.
Holding his barely noticeable Mimikyu while riding Baxcalibur through the lands to admire the magnificent scenery.
Watching his master chef Ceruledge and Swampert engage in their daily sparring matches.
Then, a line of utterly mood-killing text suddenly appeared before Michael’s eyes.
[Ding!
Special Trainer System successfully installed!] [System Objective: Cultivate every host into one of the strongest beings of their era!
According to this world’s power hierarchy, that means becoming a Champion!] Michael: “…” A bewildered expression appeared on his face.
If one looked closely enough, they could even spot the deep disdain hidden in his eyes.
‘I already became a Champion-ranked Trainer through my own efforts.
Showing up now, what use are you besides ruining my peaceful retirement?
What incredibly rotten timing…’
