“That’s wonderful.” As a doting father, Allen supported every one of Nemona’s choices without reservation.
Gently patting her on the head, he wore a slightly troubled expression.
“In that case, we’ll have to carefully choose your first Pokémon.” “The Paldean starter Pokémon…?
That feels a bit too ordinary.” “Ah, right.
I happen to have a Gible Egg and a Goomy Egg that some friends gave me.
How about one of those late-blooming Pokémon?” Nemona shook her head firmly.
“I want Pawmi to be my first Pokémon!” Allen froze for a moment.
Although he didn’t quite understand his younger daughter’s reasoning, he still smiled indulgently.
“Very well.
I’ll have someone find you a suitable Pawmi Egg.” Nemona excitedly threw her arms into the air.
“And from now on, I want to wear my hair in a single ponytail.
It’ll make me look more capable!” “No problem.” Allen immediately instructed the maids that Nemona’s hair should be styled in a single ponytail from now on.
Though, it was a little disappointing that he wouldn’t get to see his adorable twin-tailed daughter anymore.
Still…
As long as Nemona didn’t start dyeing or perming her hair, she could do whatever she liked.
…
One week later.
After seeing the construction crew off, Michael looked over the land, which finally resembled a proper ranch, if only just a little.
He nodded in satisfaction.
Back before he had transmigrated, a project like this would’ve cost at least twice as much.
On top of that, he’d probably have had to deal with all sorts of petty problems and corner-cutting.
Putting aside evil organizations and the occasional bad apple, most people in the Pokémon world really were as straightforward as those in a utopia.
Michael first walked over to the farming area.
For now, it had simply been divided into plots, with a drainage system installed to prevent standing water from soaking crop roots and killing them.
The fields themselves, however, remained untilled.
Naturally, that would’ve cost extra.
In fact, the construction crew had also offered additional services such as building irrigation canals.
But looking at his wallet, which seemed to shrink a little more every day, Michael decided to make use of the labor force he already had.
Swampert.
As for watering, Swampert could simply spray the fields with Water Gun whenever necessary.
Of course, Michael wasn’t some kind of devil.
Once the farmland expanded enough to require large-scale irrigation, Swampert and Luxray could simply take turns using Rain Dance.
Whenever the crops needed sunshine, Serperior could use Sunny Day.
This was the Pokémon world.
Anything was possible.
Near the fields, the construction crew had also built a wooden storage shed for harvested crops.
Outside the shed lay several iron farming tools, which they’d told him were a complimentary gift.
Buying a full set like that in town would’ve cost several hundred Poké Dollars.
That foreman really was a good guy.
All in all, while the farming area was still rudimentary, it only needed the weeds and rocks cleared away before it could be put into use.
Unfortunately, Michael’s knowledge of farming only went this far.
He had grown up in the city before transmigrating and knew practically nothing about agriculture.
Still…
Even though he had no idea what to do next, he already had a plan.
Half a month had passed since he accepted Geeta’s invitation to become a teacher at Naranja Academy.
As one of Paldea’s largest academies, its library undoubtedly contained plenty of books and reference materials on agriculture.
Once he officially started teaching, he could simply borrow whatever he needed.
He could also take advantage of the internet and follow content creators in the field.
For example, Milo, the Gym Leader of Turffield in the Galar region, frequently posted videos and updates about Milo Farm on his personal page.
Michael wasn’t in any hurry to start planting.
He understood perfectly well that haste made waste.
If he charged in without knowing what he was doing, failure was far more likely than success.
Afterward, Michael inspected the pasture area and the lake area.
More than half of the 100,000 Poké Dollars had gone into constructing the wooden fences surrounding the pasture.
Considering that whatever livestock or Pokémon he raised in the future would most likely be cattle, sheep, horses, or similar species, the pasture occupied nearly one-third of the land he had purchased.
The lake area took up another third.
Ironically, the farming area wasn’t even half as large as either of them.
Like the farmland, the pasture was covered in weeds and scattered rocks and desperately needed clearing.
Only after buying suitable grass seeds and planting them would Michael consider bringing in livestock or Pokémon.
As for the so-called lake area, it wasn’t a lake at all.
It was merely another designated stretch of barren land.
When the time came, Michael intended to have Swampert use its raw strength to excavate an actual lake there.
The only one suffering would be Swampert.
A core member of a Champion’s team, reduced to construction labor.
After giving it some thought, Michael decided that today’s goal would be clearing all the weeds and loose stones from both the farming and pasture areas.
Of course, if he had to swing a hammer and hoe by himself across such a huge area, he’d probably be working nonstop for over a month.
Fortunately, this was where his own nearly max-level strength could finally shine.
Michael looked around.
Finding no sign of the Pokémon he wanted, he lifted his gaze toward the sky.
Aside from the occasional Fletchling and Pidgey flying overhead, a much larger black silhouette floated lazily above.
“So you’re taking another nap in the sky…
Perfect.” Michael immediately recognized the silhouette as his Dragonite.
He cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted, “Dragonite—!” After calling three or four times, the shadow descended from the sky.
Sure enough, it was his adorable, sleepy Dragonite.
“Bwo~?” Dragonite rubbed its eyes in confusion, letting out a soft, drowsy cry.
There wasn’t the slightest trace of the overwhelming pressure it exuded during battle.
“Could you do me a favor and go call Swampert over?
I need its help with something.” As he spoke, Michael’s hands didn’t stay idle.
He reached out and poked Dragonite’s wonderfully squishy belly, looking utterly content.
Dragonite’s stomach was unbelievably soft.
Compared to it, even the most luxurious pillows were nothing.
Resting his head on Dragonite’s belly for an afternoon nap was pure bliss.
Unfortunately, Dragonite preferred napping while floating high in the sky.
Michael couldn’t exactly force it otherwise.
“Bwo!” Dragonite snapped into a salute with one arm, gave Michael their daily hug, then happily wagged its tail before taking to the sky again to look for Swampert, which usually stayed in the same area.
Watching Dragonite disappear into the distance, Michael casually found a large rock to sit on.
Then, inside his mind, he asked, ‘My dear friend…
is there anything buried underground around here that’s worth a fortune?
Evolution stones?
Maybe one of Arceus’s Plates?’ […
Stop daydreaming in broad daylight, dear Host.
] Michael clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“You know, ever since the Tera Orb ore deposit and Professor Sada’s research project, you really haven’t accomplished much.” [Are you seriously asking me that?] [If you were willing to go on adventures, you’d already be rolling in money.
But you spend every day loafing around this tiny patch of land.
How am I supposed to make use of all my abilities?] [Dear customer, there’s a Maushold nest on the hillside to your right.
If you ever can’t afford food, you could always rob their food storage.] “…You’ve really got a sharp tongue.” Michael curled his lips.
He couldn’t help wondering whether being bottled up for so long had twisted his guidance system’s personality.
Michael was considering whether he should occasionally wander through the nearby mountains and forests after all when the phone in his pocket suddenly began vibrating.
Its ringtone echoed through the quiet surroundings.
Michael pulled it out and looked at the screen.
[Incoming Call: Professor Sada]
