The voice that rang out in his mind startled Evan Lane, but he quickly recovered.

“Those old webnovel veterans really didn’t lie to me.

If you get transported to another world, you really do get a system!” Evan nearly burst into grateful tears.Full novel: Pokémon: Starting with Snivy — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

[Ding!

Host, please read the following system rules carefully.

Failure to do so will be at your own risk.] [One: This system is known as the Grass-Type Elite Four Training System.

Its purpose is to assist the Trainer in becoming a Grass-type Elite Four member, and possibly climbing even higher.

This system is only a support tool.

The Trainer’s own ability remains more important!] [Two: At present, this system only provides data detection functions.

All other functions require Sunlight Points to unlock.] [Three: Sunlight Points can be obtained by raising Grass-type Pokémon, having Grass-type Pokémon defeat opponents, and similar actions.] [Warning!

Due to system restrictions, the host will only receive system functions and privileges when obtaining Grass-type Pokémon.

Pokémon of other types will not benefit from system-provided items or effects!] Looking at the pile of information that had appeared before him, especially the large red warning text at the bottom, Evan did not care at all.

This lined up perfectly with his own wish!

Although the system had not forced Evan to only catch Grass-type Pokémon, he had already decided that every partner he chose from now on would be a Grass-type.

Remembering the data detection function the system had mentioned, Evan immediately looked toward a Pidgey perched on the roof nearby.

Name: Pidgey Gender: Male Type: Normal/Flying Ability: Keen Eye Effect: Accuracy cannot be lowered.

Known Moves: Peck, Growl Egg Moves: None Evan’s eyes lit up.

He could really see it!

The data appeared beside the Pokémon in front of him, clear at a glance.

However, in his parents’ eyes, Evan’s behavior looked like he had suddenly gone blank.

To them, Evan first froze, then stared at the Pidgey without blinking, as if what he saw was not a Pidgey at all, but some incredibly rare Pokémon!

“This kid didn’t get hit too hard by the disappointment and lose it, did he?” his parents wondered.

Seeing the atmosphere gradually become awkward, the guide, Mia, quickly stepped forward to smooth things over.

“Our Starter Center also has several Pidgey with pretty decent potential.

If you’re interested, I can take you to see them right away.” Only then did Evan snap back to reality.

“No need, no need.

Let’s go to the Grass-type Pokémon section.” Along the way, whenever they passed areas for other types, Evan habitually checked the Pokémon’s information.

He even saw several Pokémon with Hidden Abilities, which nearly tempted him.

When they arrived at the Grass-type section, several Bellsprout appeared in front of Evan.

“This batch of Bellsprout just arrived, and their potential is all quite good,” Mia introduced from the side.

Bellsprout had also been one of the options Evan had considered.

It had a three-stage evolution line.

Although evolving into its final form required a Leaf Stone, Victreebel had both physical and special attacking stats above 100, making it a very solid Pokémon.

But these Bellsprout in front of him…

Even the most talented one among them only had two moves, and their mental state did not seem very good either.

Evan shook his head.

In this condition, they might even be afraid of battling.

The current system still could not directly show potential, but on the system panel, Evan saw a dim plus sign behind that function.

Perhaps it could be upgraded later with Sunlight Points.

Seeing Evan shake his head, Mia understood and led the group farther inside.

Along the way, Evan saw quite a few Pokémon: Oddish, Exeggcute, and a fairly talented Lotad.

Name: Lotad Gender: Male Type: Water/Grass Ability: Swift Swim Effect: Speed doubles in rainy weather.

Known Moves: Growl, Absorb, Bubble Egg Move: Leech Seed “It actually inherited Leech Seed?” Evan’s eyes brightened.

This was one of his favorite moves.

And since it had inherited that move, it meant one of its parents might have been from the Bulbasaur line or the Snivy line.

If so, its talent would likely be even higher.

On top of that, a Lotad with Swift Swim would become a very solid rain team member after evolving into Ludicolo.

Its Water and Grass typing was also excellent.

It had three resistances, could resist the powerful move Earthquake, had a four-times resistance to Water, and only had three weaknesses: Poison, Bug, and Flying.

Adding all of that together, choosing this Lotad was already the best option currently available.

However, in Evan’s eyes, it had one fatal flaw.

Its final form, Ludicolo, was too ugly!

Although after staring at it for long enough, it did start to seem ugly in a cute way, and although Evan had been a pure battle-focused player in the games, in reality, he still could not get over that hurdle!

“It’s clearly pretty cute when it’s little.

How does it grow up like that?” Evan looked up and sighed.

This was already the last kind of Grass-type Pokémon in the area.

He had reached the end of the Grass-type section.

Now, aside from choosing this Lotad, he only had one option left.

Gambling on an Egg!

Now that he had the system’s help, he naturally had to check out the mystery egg section.

If there were no suitable Grass-type Pokémon there, then he would have no choice but to come back and choose this Lotad.

After telling Mia what he wanted to do, she turned her gaze toward Evan’s parents.

Seeing the worry on their faces, Evan smiled and comforted them.

“Don’t worry, Mom, Dad.

I’m not trying to save money.

I just haven’t found the right one yet.

Whatever money is left after checking the mystery eggs will still be spent on raising my Pokémon.

I won’t save a single cent!” Hearing that, the crease in his father’s brow finally relaxed.

“You little brat.

You’d better not burn through your mother’s and my retirement fund!” The family joked with each other along the way and soon arrived at the mystery egg section.

The Pokémon Eggs here were either in poor condition or had not yet been properly identified.

Current Pokémon Egg identification technology was still imperfect.

Most of the process relied on specialists manually identifying the patterns on the eggs.

Because many eggs had damaged markings or poor appearances, no one chose them, and they were all placed in this section.

In terms of price, they only cost one-third as much as normal Pokémon Eggs.

For many ordinary families, this was one possible path to becoming a Trainer.

Evan scanned the shelves row by row.

The information for each Pokémon Egg appeared in front of him one after another.

“Mankey, Poliwag, Pidgey, Charmander…

wait, Charmander?!” Evan’s eyes suddenly widened.

He saw that the dull-looking Charmander Egg had been picked up by a boy about his age.

The boy’s parents gave him an apologetic smile, but the boy simply shook his head to show that he did not mind, then followed them to the checkout counter.

Evan did his best to remember the boy’s appearance.

Someone with that kind of luck might cross paths with him again in the future.

Pulling his gaze back, Evan continued checking the remaining Pokémon Eggs.

Before long, Evan wiped away a tear that did not exist from the corner of his eye.

“Lotad, looks like you and I are going to be grinding together from now on!” Just then, a staff member pushed a cart full of Pokémon Eggs toward the shelves of the mystery egg section.

Evan, who had already given up hope, merely glanced over casually.

In an instant, his eyes seemed to be hooked in place.

His gaze stuck firmly to one of the Pokémon Eggs on top, its surface covered in scratches.

Name: Snivy Gender: Female Type: Grass Ability: Contrary Hidden Ability Known Move: Tackle Egg Moves: Glare, Magical Leaf, Iron Tail, Grassy Terrain “What the hell?

What the hell!

What the hell!” Evan screamed in his heart over and over, as if the entire world now contained only him and this scratched-up Pokémon Egg.

Perfect.

It was absolutely perfect!

Evan: Sorry, Lotad, buddy.

It’s not you, it’s me.

I found someone better~ Lotad: ???
