10 – Donating the Divorce Settlement He Gave
Luo Xingchen walked up to Fu Jingxiao and checked his breath. Feeling the warm air escaping his nostrils, her anxious heart finally relaxed.
He had only been knocked unconscious by her blow, not killed.
Compared to the immense difficulty of carrying Fu Jingxiao to the bedroom earlier, this time Luo Xingchen lifted him onto the bed with ease.
Never mind that he was unconscious—even if he were awake, now that he had discovered she knew martial arts, she had no intention of hiding it any longer.
Luo Xingchen kept a first-aid kit in her safe. She took it out and, with practiced movements, treated and bandaged the wounds on Fu Jingxiao’s back.
As she was about to leave, she noticed two pools of blood on the floor.
The wounds on his back couldn’t possibly have bled all the way to that spot.
Was his leg injured too?
Looking at Fu Jingxiao’s profile as he lay face-down on the bed, Luo Xingchen hesitated for a moment, then pulled his trousers up.
She saw white bandages wrapped around his calf, already soaked through with blood.
Layer by layer, she unwound the bandages, revealing a long, deep gash.
No wonder someone with his skills had so clumsily used his body to shield her from that cup of coffee.
It turned out he was carrying such serious injuries that his movements were impaired.
Thinking of how badly wounded he was and yet he had still gone to watch the competition, Luo Xingchen didn’t feel like treating his wounds.
He didn’t even take his own life seriously—why should she save him?
That was what she told herself, but her hands never stopped working on his injuries.
Luo Xingchen had just tucked Fu Jingxiao under the covers when her phone rang.
She walked over and saw it was Qin Mingyue calling.
Luo Xingchen hesitated, hung up, and then sent Qin Mingyue a text message.
“Fu Jingxiao is injured and at home, Building XX, Ziting Yipin!”
After sending the message, Luo Xingchen cast a complicated glance at Fu Jingxiao’s pale face, then turned and left without looking back.
…
Fu Jingxiao opened his eyes and saw a figure slumped at the bedside, her back to him.
Watching the woman’s long black hair spill over the edge of the bed as she sat in the chair, having slept at his bedside all night, Fu Jingxiao felt a surge of deep emotion.
He hadn’t expected that beneath her apparent resistance, she cared about him this much.
Fu Jingxiao’s lips curved up happily, and he gently reached out to touch the woman’s hair.
“Wake up, come sleep on the bed. Sleeping like this will give you a cold.” Fu Jingxiao patted the woman’s head lightly, his hoarse voice so tender it could almost overflow.
The woman stirred slightly, then lifted her head and rubbed her eyes.
“Axiao, you’re awake. How are you feeling?” Qin Mingyue said gently, reaching out to touch Fu Jingxiao’s forehead. “Thank goodness, the fever hasn’t come back. When I saw you burning up and unconscious last night, I was worried to death.”
At the sight of Qin Mingyue’s face, the tenderness in Fu Jingxiao’s eyes froze instantly. Only when Qin Mingyue’s cool hand touched his forehead did he come back to his senses.
“Mingyue, your own injuries haven’t healed yet. Why did you come here? Who told you the address?” Fu Jingxiao concealed the disappointment in his eyes and asked in a calm voice.
“I don’t know who it was. Yesterday I called you, but no one answered. Then someone quickly sent me the address, saying you were injured, so I rushed over right away. When I saw you were not only injured but also unconscious, I called Xiao Kai. He brought a doctor over and said your life wasn’t in danger—that’s when I finally felt relieved!”
Qin Mingyue asked nervously, her face full of lingering fear: “I know you’re skilled and ordinary people can’t get close to you. What happened? How did you get hurt so badly?”
It must have been Luo Xingchen who texted Qin Mingyue.
Thinking of how badly he was injured—burned because of her, and even knocked unconscious by her—yet Luo Xingchen hadn’t stayed behind to take care of him even for a moment, Fu Jingxiao’s anger instantly flared up.
Well done, Luo Xingchen. You really are heartless.
“You were injured near your heart, and you kept watch like this all night?” Fu Jingxiao’s tone was full of concern, but in his heart he was thinking that he absolutely had to punish Luo Xingchen properly this time.
“I’m fine. Only lying by your side puts my mind at ease. As long as you’re okay, no matter how much I suffer, it’s worth it,” Qin Mingyue said tenderly and affectionately.
Looking at Qin Mingyue’s overly pale face, a trace of heartache and guilt surfaced in Fu Jingxiao’s eyes.
“You’re too foolish. Don’t ever do this again. Only with a healthy body can you do what you want to do. You’re going to take over the Qin Corporation in the future—without good health, how could you ever hold up the Qin family?”
Seeing the guilt and heartache in Fu Jingxiao’s eyes, Qin Mingyue felt smug inside.
She knew that doing this would make Fu Jingxiao feel sorry for her.
In truth, she hadn’t spent the whole night sitting in a chair keeping watch over Fu Jingxiao at all. She had slept in the guest room, set an alarm for five o’clock, and then came over to put on an act, pretending to doze at his bedside.
“I will definitely protect myself and work hard to make the Qin Corporation bigger and stronger. I won’t let Axiao down,” Qin Mingyue said, her gaze gentle and brimming with deep affection.
…
As the only champion to win two gold medals at this sports meet, Luo Xingchen, under official arrangements, gave interviews on several official programs one after another.
On the highest-rated, most authoritative official program, Luo Xingchen publicly announced that she would donate the three billion she had accumulated over years of hard work to charity, to be used to fund the elderly living out their later years alone, left-behind children, and patients suffering from illness who had no money for treatment.
Luo Xingchen’s athletic prowess and her boundless compassion, combined with her radiant beauty and her witty, emotionally intelligent interview style, instantly won the hearts of countless netizens.
For a time, Luo Xingchen was unmatched in popularity, becoming the most talked-about person in all of Xia Country.
Many TV stations, variety shows, and media outlets, catching the scent of money in this traffic goldmine, extended invitations to Luo Xingchen one after another, hoping she would agree to appear on their programs.
One day, after finishing a recording, Luo Xingchen had just walked out of the broadcasting station when she was surrounded by a man and an old woman claiming to be her father and grandmother. Behind them was a crowd of reporters.
In front of Luo Xingchen, Luo Jinpeng publicly produced a family keepsake as well as childhood photos of Luo Xingchen with them. The woman in the photos bore a face seven-tenths similar to Luo Xingchen’s, convincing her that these were indeed her family.
After expressing his guilt at having been unable to find Luo Xingchen for so long, Luo Jinpeng, overcome with emotion, fainted and was rushed to the hospital.
From then on, everyone in Xia Country knew that Luo Xingchen—the woman who had won glory for her country, claimed two gold medals, and generously donated three billion—was not only a top-tier athlete, but also the long-lost eldest daughter of the prestigious Luo family, a renowned noble lineage of a hundred years.
Because of Luo Xingchen’s generous three-billion donation, netizens who had no idea how else to express their admiration for her rushed to buy products under the Luo Corporation’s brands after she returned to the Luo family. The Luo Corporation’s stock hit its daily limit-up for five consecutive days.
Luo Jinpeng, “recuperating” in the hospital, was overjoyed, declaring that as soon as he was discharged, he would hold a banquet for Luo Xingchen, announcing to all the city’s elite that Luo Xingchen was his daughter and the eldest daughter of the Luo family.
……
In the CEO’s office of Fu Corporation!
“How times change. Who would have thought that Luo Xingchen, who grew up in a nunnery, is actually the lost eldest daughter of the Luo Group?”
“President Fu, Luo Xingchen’s money-making ability now rivals yours. In just one week, she brought in tens of billions for the Luo Group. The Luo Group, which was on the verge of collapse, is about to make a stunning comeback thanks to Luo Xingchen!”
“President Fu, do you regret divorcing Luo Xingchen now? Do you really want to attend the welcome banquet Luo Jinpeng is throwing for her today?”
“Oh, even if you desperately want to go, they won’t give you an invitation, and you can’t shamelessly show up, right?”
“I wonder if Luo Xingchen would send you an invitation out of consideration for your past marriage? Impossible—she donated the three billion divorce settlement you gave her. Clearly, she wants nothing more to do with you.”
Xiao Kai asked and answered his own questions, fearless of death, as he watched Fu Jingxiao’s face grow colder and colder.
The look of someone wanting to kill another person cannot be hidden.
Fu Jingxiao looked at Xiao Kai with a chilly gaze: “So eager to meet the King of Hell? Shall I send you there right now?”
Although Xiao Kai’s words made Fu Jingxiao want to beat him to a pulp, Fu Jingxiao had to admit that Luo Xingchen was truly the most talked-about figure in Xia Country right now.
Scrolling through short videos, six out of every ten were about Luo Xingchen, all praising her.
After all, she was the unprecedented first person in Xia Country to donate three billion in one go.
Thanks to the name Luo Xingchen, the Luo Group’s products sold out and its real estate developments were snapped up completely—an unprecedented legend in the business world.
If Luo Xingchen handed over the formula she took from him to Luo Jinpeng for production, the Luo Group would surely soon reclaim its position as the beauty industry leader.
“President Fu, I’ve followed you for so many years—don’t I know you? You’re so full of regret right now that your chest is pressed against your back. Where would you find the strength to hit me?”
Although Xiao Kai said this, his body honestly ran several meters away, so he could make a timely escape if Fu Jingxiao lost his temper.
“Xiao Kai…” Fu Jingxiao roared through gritted teeth.
“What happened? Axiao, why are you so angry?” Qin Mingyue pushed open the door and walked in, smiling gently at Xiao Kai. “Assistant Xiao, how did you provoke your President Fu?”
Fu Jingxiao had made an exception for Qin Mingyue—no announcement needed, she could come and go from his office freely.
Seeing Qin Mingyue walk in without even knocking, Xiao Kai felt a bit displeased.
He really didn’t know what his President Fu saw in this woman. She didn’t even observe basic etiquette, not nearly as considerate and meticulous as Luo Xingchen in every way.
“I said he doesn’t make money as well as Luo Xingchen, and his pride was hurt, so he blew up!” Xiao Kai told the truth without hiding anything.
At the mention of Luo Xingchen, a flash of coldness passed through Qin Mingyue’s eyes.
