Ding Xuan’s Little Scheme
After coming out of the private room, Ding Xuan made a point of hanging a ‘Please do not disturb’ sign on the door. Hao Yi saw it and asked, “Why hang that up?”
Ding Xuan hemmed and hawed without explaining, then told Hao Yi to wait by the door. He said he was going to hand his work pass to the shift leader, then left.
He went to the staff changing room with the work pass in his hand, but he did not leave right away.
He was thinking that everything that had happened in the private room would definitely be known by the clubhouse’s manager later. When that time came, they would surely come looking for him. So if he quit in advance, he could still get paid for the time he had worked. After all, as of today, he could already collect 4,500 in wages!
If what happened in the private room was discovered, then he would only be fired. His wages would definitely be cut off completely, and they might even make him pay compensation.
But those people had bullied him first. By rights, the company should have treated it as a workplace injury and compensated him. The problem was, in front of the powerful, the weak were never in the right. So trying to reason with the company would never work.
Since reasoning would not work, he had no intention of going through the proper channels. He planned to try resigning instead. He had already asked around, and temporary workers here got their wages settled when they left.
That was also why he had hung the ‘Please do not disturb’ sign on the door. That way, the others would not discover what was happening inside right away. He believed the young master would never beat them to the point of near death. At most, they would be injured, so even if it was discovered later, it would not matter. It would just let them suffer a bit, and maybe then they would think twice before bullying poor people like them again!
Thinking of that, Ding Xuan decided to resign. So he took his work pass and went to find the shift leader, asking to quit.
When the shift leader saw the bruises all over his face, he assumed Ding Xuan wanted to quit because he could not take being beaten up, so he did not say much and simply took Ding Xuan through the process of resigning and collecting his pay.
The shift leader was used to this sort of thing. Most temporary workers who left here did so for that reason, so he found nothing strange about it at all, and he did not suspect that Ding Xuan had some other motive.
After all, Ding Xuan had performed very well these past two months, and the shift leader was quite satisfied with him.
Having successfully collected his 4,500 in wages, Ding Xuan was so excited he could hardly contain himself. He rushed out of the clubhouse to find Hao Yi, who had been waiting for him outside, and without saying a word, he grabbed Hao Yi and started running.
He was afraid his little scheme would be seen through and the clubhouse people would chase after him.
After running a long way and making sure nothing would happen, he finally stopped, one hand braced against a nearby utility pole as he panted hard, only then noticing that Hao Yi was standing in front of him with a perfectly calm expression, not at all like him, exhausted and gasping for breath.
Thinking about how Hao Yi exercised every day and even hiked up mountains on foot, he figured that was normal enough.
By the time he had caught his breath a little, Hao Yi looked at him and asked, “Why didn’t you go to school?”
He had always thought that for these past two months, Ding Xuan had been leaving early and coming back late because he was going to school. He had not expected that Ding Xuan had actually been working at that place just now.
