Lingxiang
After the butler had arranged everything, Chen Rong got into the car and headed for the Zhan family.
Just as she arrived at the Zhan family gate, one of the Zhan servants went inside to report, and Chen Rong followed another servant through the Zhan family gate.
When Zhan He heard the servant’s report, she immediately came out from inside. Seeing Chen Rong in a pinkish-red dress, her straight hair draped over her shoulders, Zhan He could not help but smile. “You came to look for my second brother, didn’t you!”

Zhan He shook her head, then led Chen Rong inside and upstairs.
“My mom’s condition keeps going back and forth. She really did get better a few days ago, but the past two days have been bad again. The doctor can’t figure out what the cause is, and nobody knows what medicine to use.” Zhan He looked worried, and Chen Rong’s mood sank with hers.
She and Zhan He came to Madam Zhan’s room. Even standing at the door, Chen Rong could smell a strange, exquisite fragrance filling the room. It was especially soothing.
She and Zhan He walked in and saw Madam Zhan lying pale on the bed, with Zhan Ping sitting by the bedside. There was another person in the room too, and that was Zhan Qing, the elder brother of Zhan Ping and Zhan He.
“Xiaorong is here, come sit. Xiaoping, stop keeping Mom company here, go keep Xiaorong company instead.” Madam Zhan patted Zhan Ping’s hand and said.
Chen Rong hurried over and said, “Auntie, let Brother Ping stay with you. I’ll stay here and talk with you too.”
Zhan Ping looked at Chen Rong. “Why did you come over? Oh, I forgot, it’s Saturday today, you came back from school.”
“Yes, I came home yesterday afternoon. How is Auntie doing now?” Chen Rong asked.

The entire room was filled with a bleak atmosphere. Chen Rong knew she had come at the wrong time, but tomorrow afternoon she had to go back to school, so she could only come today to see Zhan Ping. Otherwise, she would have to wait another full week before she could come back and see him again.
At that moment, a tall man stood at the door, holding a box in his hand. He knocked on the door and said, “Sister-in-law, the Lingxiang has just been delivered.”
When Madam Zhan heard that, she nodded and said, “Bring it in and place it on the bedside table.”
The man walked in, opened the box in his hand, took out a green object about the size of an egg, and placed it on the bedside table.
Seeing it, Chen Rong asked, “Brother Ping, what is this? It smells so nice!” So the fragrance in the room was coming from this thing.
Zhan Ping explained, “This is Lingxiang. It’s my mom’s favorite fragrance ingredient, and also a kind of Chinese medicinal herb. My mom has been using Lingxiang for thirty years.”
“So this thing is called Lingxiang. It really does smell wonderful.”
When Madam Zhan heard that, a smile appeared on her face. Of course she was happy that something she liked was also liked by others.
