The darkness had no depth.

Wu Han couldn't tell whether he was standing, falling, or floating.

There was no ground beneath his feet.

No air.

No temperature.

No sound.

Yet he could breathe.

That realization frightened him more than the darkness.

He tried to move.

Nothing happened.

His body did not respond.

Then the blue-white point appeared again.

Small.

Distant.

Almost insignificant.

Until it opened.

The darkness fractured.

Wu Han saw the network.

It stretched beyond anything he could comprehend.

Countless points connected by luminous threads.

Some were close.

Others were separated by distances that made no sense.

He saw Earth.

He saw the solar system.

Then the system disappeared beneath a vast structure that seemed to surround it.

Something was watching.

Not a person.

Not a creature.

Not an eye.

There was no face.

No body.

Only awareness.

Wu Han felt it.

The sensation was impossible to describe.

It wasn't looking at him in the way a human looked at another person.

It was more fundamental.

Like gravity.

Like time.

Like the universe itself had suddenly become aware that something inside it had changed.

Omega's voice came from somewhere beyond the darkness.

"Wu Han."

He tried to answer.

Nothing came out.

"Do not resist."

Wu Han's mind immediately rebelled.

That was exactly what someone said before they did something he would regret.

He forced himself to move.

A tiny tremor passed through the darkness.

The network responded.

Thousands of points shifted.

Omega's voice changed.

"Stop."

Wu Han froze.

Not because Omega commanded him.

Because he had seen the consequence.

The network had reacted to his movement.

Not metaphorically.

It had changed.

Wu Han stared.

The blue-white point pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

Then a pattern appeared.

Three points.

One below.

One above.

One between them.

Wu Han's heart tightened.

The three Dantians.

The structure wasn't showing him his body.

It was showing him a principle.

Foundation.

Perception.

Transformation.

Then something changed.

The three points connected.

The surrounding network trembled.

Omega's voice became distorted.

"Genesis synchronization increasing."

The darkness flashed.

0.008%

0.009%

0.010%

Wu Han felt pressure building behind his chest.

He forced himself to breathe.

Nothing.

There was no air.

Yet his lungs moved.

He looked down.

His body appeared.

Transparent.

Luminous.

Every meridian was visible.

Blood flowed through the vessels.

Qi moved through pathways that seemed to exist somewhere between physiology and something else.

The lower Dantian glowed.

The upper followed.

The middle began to brighten.

Wu Han's eyes widened.

"No."

The middle Dantian surged.

The network around him expanded.

The observer reacted.

For the first time, Wu Han sensed something resembling surprise.

Then fear.

Not his.

Something else's.

The entire structure recoiled.

The darkness cracked.

And Wu Han fell.

He hit the ground hard.

Air rushed into his lungs.

Wu Han coughed violently.

The village returned.

The old man was standing several meters away.

But he wasn't looking at Wu Han.

He was looking at the sky.

His face had gone pale.

"What did you do?"

Wu Han pushed himself upright.

"I didn't do anything."

The old man's eyes snapped toward him.

"You activated all three."

"I didn't intentionally activate them."

"That doesn't matter."

The man's voice was unusually tense.

"Do you understand what you just did?"

Wu Han stood.

"No."

"Good."

The man looked relieved for approximately one second.

Then the expression disappeared.

"Then maybe you still have a chance."

Wu Han studied him.

"You said you opened it."

"I did."

"And you survived."

"Yes."

"What is the door?"

The old man looked away.

"I don't know."

Wu Han's expression hardened.

"You're lying."

"I wish I were."

The old man rubbed his face.

For the first time, Wu Han noticed how tired he looked.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

Like exhaustion accumulated over decades.

"I called it a door because I didn't have another word."

"Then describe it."

The man hesitated.

"Imagine you're inside a room."

Wu Han waited.

"You've spent your entire life believing the room is the universe."

The man pointed toward the sky.

"Then one day you discover there is a wall."

Wu Han's eyes narrowed.

"And behind the wall?"

"I don't know."

"Then why open it?"

The man laughed once.

There was no humor in it.

"Because humans are idiots."

Wu Han almost smiled.

"That's something we agree on."

The old man looked at him.

"You think this is funny?"

"No."

Wu Han stepped closer.

"I think you're withholding information."

The man's expression hardened.

"And I think you have no idea what you've started."

"Then explain it."

"I can't."

"Why?"

"Because I don't understand it either."

Wu Han stared at him.

The old man pointed toward Wu Han's chest.

"But I know what happens when it notices you."

Wu Han's expression changed.

"You've experienced that?"

The old man nodded.

"Once."

"What happened?"

"I heard a sound."

"What sound?"

The man looked toward the mountains.

"Like the universe taking its first breath."

Wu Han said nothing.

The old man continued.

"Then everything around me became silent."

"How long?"

"I don't know."

"Seconds?"

"Maybe."

"Minutes?"

"Maybe."

"Hours?"

The man shook his head.

"Time stopped making sense."

Wu Han looked at Omega's portable diagnostic display.

"Did you record anything?"

The old man frowned.

"Record?"

"With a device."

"I didn't have one."

"Then how do you know what happened?"

The man looked at him.

"Because I remember."

Wu Han stared.

The old man continued.

"I remember seeing the sky disappear."

"What did you see instead?"

"Nothing."

"That isn't an answer."

"It is."

The man looked directly at him.

"There was nothing."

Wu Han's mind began reconstructing everything.

The old man's story.

The twelve historical cases.

The nine living subjects.

The unknown external response.

Genesis State.

The network.

The observer.

He looked at the man.

"How many people have experienced this?"

The old man was silent.

"How many?"

"Twenty-three."

Wu Han froze.

"Twenty-three?"

"That I know of."

"Twenty-three people opened the door?"

"No."

The man shook his head.

"Twenty-three people touched the threshold."

Wu Han's eyes narrowed.

"What happened to them?"

"Seven died."

"How?"

"Different ways."

"Explain."

"Some suffered catastrophic organ failure."

"Expected physiological overload."

"Some lost consciousness and never woke up."

"Neurological damage."

"Some..."

The man stopped.

Wu Han waited.

"Some simply disappeared."

Wu Han's expression changed.

"Disappeared?"

"One moment they were there."

"And the next?"

"Nothing."

"Did you find their bodies?"

"No."

"Any biological residue?"

"No."

"Radiation?"

"No."

"Energy?"

The old man looked at him.

"You're still thinking like a scientist."

"I am a scientist."

"That's your problem."

Wu Han's expression hardened.

"No. That's why I'm still alive."

The old man didn't respond.

Wu Han continued.

"If people disappeared, there must be a mechanism."

"Perhaps."

"Everything has a mechanism."

The man smiled faintly.

"That's what I used to believe."

Wu Han looked at him.

"And now?"

"I believe some mechanisms don't care whether we understand them."

The village remained silent.

A dog barked somewhere in the distance.

Then stopped.

Wu Han looked at the sky.

Nothing unusual.

No lights.

No aircraft.

No clouds.

Yet he could feel something.

Not the same as before.

This was subtler.

A pressure.

A presence.

His upper Dantian became warm.

The old man noticed.

"Don't."

Wu Han looked at him.

"Don't what?"

"Focus on it."

Wu Han immediately released his attention.

The sensation weakened.

He looked at the old man.

"You've learned how to suppress it."

"Not suppress."

"Then?"

"Hide."

"From what?"

The old man didn't answer.

Wu Han waited.

Finally:

"The universe."

Wu Han almost laughed.

"You expect me to believe the universe is watching us?"

The old man looked at him.

"You're the scientist."

"Exactly."

"Then explain what you saw."

Wu Han stopped.

He couldn't.

That was the problem.

He had seen something that didn't fit any model.

Something that couldn't be reduced to electromagnetic radiation, gravity, quantum fields, neural activity, or any known physical phenomenon.

Yet he still refused to call it supernatural.

Not yet.

"What if it wasn't the universe?"

The old man's eyes narrowed.

"What?"

"What if there was something living inside it?"

The man went completely still.

Wu Han watched his reaction.

"You've thought about it."

The old man looked away.

"Yes."

"What did you conclude?"

"That I was wrong."

"Why?"

"Because if it were alive..."

He swallowed.

"...then it would have to understand us."

Wu Han frowned.

"And?"

The old man looked back.

"What if it doesn't?"

Wu Han felt cold.

"Then what?"

"Then we're not being hunted."

The man stared toward the sky.

"We're being studied."

At 4:17 AM, Wu Han and the old man entered the house.

It was small.

Old.

Almost completely untouched by modern technology.

A wooden table.

Two chairs.

A kettle.

Several shelves.

Wu Han noticed the books immediately.

Hundreds of them.

Medical texts.

Martial arts manuals.

Old handwritten notes.

Photographs.

Newspaper clippings.

Medical reports.

He walked toward the shelves.

"You kept all of this?"

"I needed to understand what happened to me."

Wu Han pulled out a handwritten notebook.

The paper was yellowed.

The first page contained a date.

October 17, 2037.

He turned the page.

The writing was uneven.

The first line read:

I felt something moving beneath my skin today.

Wu Han continued reading.

The notes described sensations.

Heat.

Pressure.

Flow.

A strange awareness of the body's interior.

The man had documented everything.

Wu Han turned another page.

A diagram appeared.

It was crude.

But recognizable.

A central line.

Several branching pathways.

Three circles.

Wu Han stared.

"Where did you get this?"

"I drew it."

"You knew about the Dantians?"

"No."

"Then what are these?"

"I didn't know what they were."

Wu Han looked at the three circles.

"Why three?"

"Because I felt three places."

He pointed.

"Here."

Lower.

"Here."

Middle.

"And here."

Upper.

Wu Han slowly sat down.

The old man continued.

"I spent years thinking I was sick."

"You weren't."

"No."

"Did doctors find anything?"

"They found nothing."

"Of course."

Wu Han turned another page.

Then stopped.

A single sentence was written across the page.

Something inside me knows when I am being watched.

Wu Han stared at it.

"How long have you known?"

"Since the first year."

"Why didn't you tell anyone?"

"Who would believe me?"

Wu Han looked at him.

"I might have."

The old man smiled.

"No."

"Why?"

"Because you wouldn't believe yourself."

Wu Han didn't answer.

At 4:49 AM, Omega interrupted.

"Critical observation."

Wu Han turned toward the device.

"What?"

"The external response has disappeared."

The old man immediately stood.

"Already?"

Wu Han frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Omega displayed the Genesis graph.

The external response had dropped to zero.

The observer was gone.

The network was gone.

The strange pressure had vanished.

Wu Han looked at the old man.

"Why?"

The old man shook his head.

"I don't know."

Omega continued.

"However, Genesis State remains elevated."

GENESIS STATE: 0.010%

Wu Han stared.

"It didn't reset."

"No."

"Why?"

"Unknown."

The old man stepped closer.

"How high did it reach?"

"0.010%."

The man's face changed.

"That's too high."

Wu Han looked at him.

"What happens at higher levels?"

The old man didn't answer.

"Tell me."

"I don't know."

"Then why are you afraid?"

"Because mine reached 0.011%."

Wu Han froze.

"What happened?"

The old man looked toward the window.

"I lost three days."

Wu Han's eyes narrowed.

"Memory loss?"

"No."

"Then what?"

"I lived them."

"Explain."

"I experienced three days."

The man looked at Wu Han.

"But only eleven minutes passed."

Wu Han's expression changed.

"Time dilation?"

"Maybe."

"Relativistic?"

"No."

"How do you know?"

"Because everything around me was unchanged."

Wu Han stood.

"What did you do during those three days?"

The old man hesitated.

"I trained."

Wu Han's eyes narrowed.

"Martial arts?"

"Something like it."

"Show me."

"No."

"Why?"

"Because you aren't ready."

Wu Han's patience snapped.

"You've spent twenty-three years hiding in this village and now you're telling me I'm not ready?"

"Yes."

"Based on what?"

"Experience."

Wu Han stepped forward.

"I don't need your permission."

The old man looked at him.

"I know."

That answer stopped Wu Han.

The old man continued.

"That's exactly why I'm worried."

At 5:06 AM, Wu Han left the house.

The eastern sky had begun to brighten.

He stood beneath the tree where they had first met.

Omega projected the latest Genesis model.

The three Dantians were stable.

The meridian network remained faintly visible.

The external response was gone.

But the system had changed.

Wu Han could feel it.

Something inside him was no longer completely dormant.

He hadn't cultivated.

He hadn't learned a technique.

He hadn't deliberately gathered Qi.

Yet his body had changed.

Not dramatically.

Not enough to call it supernatural.

But enough.

He looked at his hands.

Then at the old man.

"Teach me."

The old man stared.

"No."

Wu Han frowned.

"You said I wasn't ready."

"I didn't say I wouldn't teach you."

"Then what are you saying?"

The old man walked past him.

"I'm saying that if you're serious about understanding this, stop trying to control it."

Wu Han followed.

"Then what should I do?"

"Learn to feel it."

"I already can."

"No."

The old man stopped.

"You can detect it."

He turned.

"That's different."

Wu Han said nothing.

"Your machine measures everything."

The old man tapped Wu Han's chest.

"But you don't."

Wu Han looked at the holographic display.

"Omega is more accurate than human perception."

"Maybe."

The old man smiled faintly.

"But when your machine is wrong, what will you trust?"

Wu Han didn't answer.

The old man turned toward the mountains.

"Your first lesson begins today."

Wu Han followed his gaze.

"What lesson?"

The man looked at him.

"Stand."

Wu Han frowned.

"That's it?"

"That's it."

"For how long?"

"Until you understand why you're standing."

Wu Han stared.

Then glanced at Omega.

"Record everything."

Omega responded immediately.

"Already recording."

The old man shook his head.

"You're going to be difficult."

Wu Han stepped into position.

"Probably."

The old man walked behind him.

"Relax your shoulders."

Wu Han adjusted.

"Lower your center."

He adjusted again.

"Stop thinking."

Wu Han looked over his shoulder.

"That's not possible."

The old man smiled.

"I know."

The sun began rising over the mountains.

Wu Han closed his eyes.

For the first time since Project Genesis Origin began, he wasn't trying to force the human body to reveal its secrets.

He was simply standing.

Breathing.

Listening.

Waiting.

Deep beneath his awareness, something moved.

The lower Dantian warmed.

The upper remained quiet.

The middle flickered once.

Then disappeared.

Omega recorded the event.

But something else recorded it too.

Far beyond the village.

Far beyond Earth.

Something that had no name yet.

Something that had no face.

Something that had only recently begun to understand that the universe contained living beings capable of changing themselves.

The first disturbance had been small.

Almost invisible.

But it had been noticed.

And for the first time since the universe began forming its laws, those laws had encountered something they had not expected.

A human being trying to understand them.

The observation continued.
