A solid wood desk sat in the center, with a computer and a desk lamp placed on top.
The back of the desk faced the floor-to-ceiling window. Standing by the window, one could see the research buildings of Beijing University lined up one after another.
She turned on the computer, preparing to write the report on human body measurement standards that Teacher Cai had assigned this morning.
She didn’t want to write it herself, but she couldn’t resist the fact that her thoughts were entirely filled with the shadow of that man. This was the only way she could divert her attention.
Before she even moved the mouse, the ringtone of her phone suddenly broke the silence of the night.
Jiang Minghua picked up her phone. The caller was Chen Lingqian.
It was probably news about that man.
She quickly answered, and Jiang Minghua spoke softly:
“Qianqian, did you find out?”
Chen Lingqian sighed on the other end of the line, her voice somewhat dejected.
“Sorry, Huahua. Jiang Shaoyan did hack into their system, but…”
Jiang Minghua’s heartstrings instantly pulled taut. She gripped her phone, having a bad feeling.
“But what? Tell me quickly.”
Chen Lingqian: “Their system is too strong. In every aspect, it far surpasses all current technology on the market.
Jiang Shaoyan didn’t find the information of the owner of that presidential suite. Instead, they discovered him…”
Jiang Minghua suddenly stood up, her voice unable to hide her panic:
“Did they find out it was Jiang Shaoyan?”
At this point, that person’s information was no longer so crucial. What mattered was that they must not trace the source address back—otherwise, it really wouldn’t be something that could be resolved with just a few words.
Chen Lingqian, however, let out a breath of relief on the other end, though her tone carried some confusion:
“The other party didn’t continue tracking us. That’s a bit strange.
Until now, there’s been no news, no one investigating. It feels like they’re not pursuing it anymore.”
Jiang Minghua’s suddenly suspended heart abruptly landed back in place. She let out a breath of relief and sat down absentmindedly, asking:
“That’s good, then I’m relieved. As long as we weren’t discovered.”
Jiang Minghua’s mind was a mess right now, and she hadn’t carefully thought through why the other party would deliberately let it go. She still had an important question she hadn’t asked.
“Then why couldn’t you see the owner information of that suite from last night? Was there a mistake?”
Chen Lingqian: “There’s no mistake. Xizhen International only has a few presidential suites, and they’re on the top floor. If I’m wrong, I’ll walk backward.”
Jiang Minghua: “Then why couldn’t you find it? Is it possible their system hadn’t registered it yet?”
Chen Lingqian shook her head on the other end:
“That shouldn’t be. Guest information at a seven-star hotel like this is encrypted and properly stored. It’s impossible for it not to be registered, unless…”
Jiang Minghua unconsciously lowered her breathing:
“Unless the other party has a very powerful background, right?”
Chen Lingqian gave her an accurate answer: “You guessed right. The other party indeed has a very powerful background. He definitely didn’t register his information. For someone like this,
the other party is either a leader in the core circle of the government, or a CEO worth over a trillion.
Other than that, I really can’t think of anyone else who could have such great power to make a seven-star hotel under the Xie family give such special treatment.”
Jiang Minghua: “…”
She really wanted to cry. Had she unintentionally provoked some big shot?
Although the Jiang family was also a powerful force in the capital, they were completely incapable of staying in a top-floor suite at Xizhen International with their real identity information hidden.
Jiang Minghua looked pitiful, her beautiful, spirited big eyes blinking, tears welling up in her eyes:
“So what do I do, Qianqian? I think I’ve gotten myself into big trouble…”
She really hadn’t expected that the one time she stepped out of line in her life, she’d provoke someone with such a powerful background. For a moment, she wanted to rush back to the Jiang family and turn herself in.
But no, she was truly afraid, and this was something she genuinely found hard to speak of.
Jiang Minghua’s hands were trembling almost imperceptibly. The capital was said to be a dazzling, luxurious imperial city,
but there were plenty of people here with connections reaching the heavens—even if you were a dragon, you’d have to coil up.
Although the Jiang family could be considered wealthy, she had always kept a low profile, afraid of provoking some big shot and bringing trouble to the Jiang family.
Chen Lingqian comforted her on the other end of the phone:
“Oh, don’t worry too much. Even if the other party is some high-ranking big shot, he must have a constant stream of women around him. How could he lack women?
There’s no way he’d go out of his way to target a little girl like you. You’re overthinking it.”
Jiang Minghua was silent for a moment, calming down considerably.
Indeed, that man looked very young and was exceptionally handsome,
and he was staying on the top floor of Xizhen International—he must be incredibly wealthy and certainly wouldn’t lack all kinds of women.
How could he remember an unarmed, naive university student like her?
Jiang Minghua nodded, then realized she was on a phone call and spoke up:
“What you said makes sense, but I still want to know who he is…”
Chen Lingqian might have been washing her face on the other end—there was the splashing sound of water. Her voice came through the phone:
“Don’t worry about who he is for now. Anyway, you definitely won’t be able to find out who he is anytime soon.
Don’t forget tomorrow is Peking University’s anniversary celebration. Didn’t you say you’re going to perform on stage on behalf of your class?
Hurry up and get ready. Tomorrow there will be a lot of big-shot alumni attending, classmate Minghua.”
Sure enough, Jiang Minghua’s attention was instantly diverted. For tomorrow’s anniversary celebration, she didn’t actually have to perform on stage herself,
but since no one in her major had any particular talents, Jiang Minghua had volunteered to play a piece on stage.
She had been trained in all sorts of hobbies and interests since childhood, and she was fairly decent at playing the piano.
The two chatted a while longer before hanging up.
The next day, Peking University’s anniversary celebration was held grandly and magnificently in the university’s century-old auditorium.
The campus parking spaces, usually fairly empty, were packed with a dazzling array of luxury cars,
all belonging to former Peking University alumni who were now prominent figures from all walks of life or government officials.
“Minghua, I heard a very important big shot might be coming today. Students on the forum say he’s going to donate to our school to build a research building.”
Chen Lingqian idly scrolled through her phone, waiting outside the changing room for Jiang Minghua, who was inside changing clothes.
Jiang Minghua was wearing a casual outfit today, easy to put on and take off.
In the gift box by her feet was the gown she was going to wear. She had many gowns,
most of them haute couture, many flown in from abroad.
This one was a new season piece from Paris Fashion Week. She had never worn it before—perfect, it would come in handy today.
Jiang Minghua responded to Chen Lingqian outside the door while undressing. “Really? That’s great.”
The changing room wasn’t very big, but it was more than enough for just her. Her performance was scheduled later, so she wasn’t in a hurry.
Chen Lingqian nodded and hummed in agreement.
She scrolled down with her finger, and when she saw what was there, she exclaimed in disbelief:
“Wow, Minghua!”
Jiang Minghua had just taken out her dress and was about to unfold it and put it on when Chen Lingqian startled her so badly that she nearly dropped the dress on the floor.
